|Second Annual Western Union Congress, in Delphi, Acadia in 2015|
|Date||April 17, 2016|
The Second Annual Congress for the Western Union took place on April 17th, 2016. It took place in Acadia, unlike the last 2015 Winsburg Congress that took place on April 4th, 2015, and the second conference not connected to the annual congress on April 26th, 2015. Issues such as global terrorism, global warming, free trade, nuclear armament, and the economy.
Topics discussed included:
For a few months, the Western Union member states have been developing plans for a future space program. It has been one of the main topics in the past few conferences as well.
The War on Terror was still in full swing and the creation of a joint WU army was discussed at the meeting. Margate and United Provinces notably rejected the proposal.
The Acadian president had a severe desire to expand the territory of the WU nations to be able to compete with other countries and to be able to gain more economic and military power. President McClark of the UP was severely opposed to this proposal, saying that the Western Union "should not turn to imperialism and slavery". Margatian President Mueller expressed reservations on the topic.
Expanding trade was also discussed. The time when the congress was taking place was a time when the anti-establishment and anti-globalist movement was at full swing, and it was difficult to achieve an agreement.
The United Provinces introduced the idea of a common currency for the Western Union, the Unicoin. Most member states rejected the proposal at the time.
Missile Defense System
Acadia has proposed a missile defense system for the Western Union. McClark opposed it because he feared it would be costly. Most other states were, however, in favour.
- The Western Union always has yearly conferences in April. This one happened later than the last one because planning took a longer time as Acadia didn't finish constructing the Western Union headquarters yet.
