The Acadian Confederation is a confederation made up of four countries, the Republic of Acadia, the State of Alexandria, the Country of Gilneas, and the Kingdom of Ladros. Each of the countries has an equal share in decisions in the Confederation, and all countries are mostly independent in their foreign policy and military. However, the Confederation Parliament has great say in the decisions of each country.

History[edit]

Throughout 2016, in Chinstrap and Gilneas, there were increased calls to break away from Acadia. Not wanting to see two important colonies leave, both sides agreed to a compromise. From late 2016 to early 2017, the Acadian Parliament passed a series of laws, including the Confederation Act, which set the stage for the establishment of a Confederation, and the Autonomy Act, which granted the colonies, except Fort Cheese, more autonomy.

In December 2016, an election was held to elect the first 200 members of the Confederation Parliament. In each colony, there were to be 50 members to fill the seats. Besides that, the election decided that Acadia would be the capital, and elected Joseph Crosby to be President of Acadia, as Brant Esser was to be the President of the Acadian Confederation.

Government[edit]

The government consists of two branches, the Legislative, which consists of the Confederation Parliament, a unicameral legislature of 200 MPs, or 50 MPs from each country, and the Executive branch, which consists of the President of the Acadian Confederation and his cabinet. Unlike the countries, there is no Supreme Court. Instead, cases are tried with 10 members from each country being the jury and the Speaker of Parliament presiding.

Each country has a high degree of autonomy, being able to make most decisions. However, when need be, the Parliament can make the final decision. Parliament also handles most of the foreign policy of each country, and can call the armies of each country in times of war.
