"Amazing" is the third single by Antarctican group Penguin Band. The single released on October 20, 2008 worldwide for digital download and as a CD single on Club Penguin Music Records. Later, it was added as a single onto the band's debut album, The Four Penguins, which released two years later in 2010, as with previous singles, "History" and "Dashing and Peppy" It charted number 1 in UnitedTerra, Club Penguin, Pengolia and the USA, and in the Top 10 elsewhere. It was certified 8x Platinum in the USA by October 23, 2008. It is known and their 3rd best-selling single.

Background[edit]

They finished up "Dashing and Peppy" in April. Then four months later they started the production of their next single. G Billy stated: "We want another 'fast and slow mash-up' on this, kinda like History." Then Stompin' Bob was asked about the production of the song: "Petey wanted to produce this one too. We finished up the lyrics by the 16th and then as soon as we done that, Petey went wild with producing. He produced about 40 beats, then we flipped a coin to see who got to choose which beat. Me and Franky went with one side and Franky and Petey with the other side. Then it was me and Franky, and I won. So I gave each beat a rating, 1 to 5. The four and five ratings, I had, 20, lowered it down even more to just two. Then I chose the one that stands later." G Billy said that the other beat that Stompin' Bob could of chose was more dance-themed. Petey K took just a week to produce all the beats. On the 27th, they recorded all day and then announced the release date of the single.

The song premiered on TBC Radio 1 on September 20, 2008 and G Billy talked about the song: "Basically, it's about someone that we think rocks our world. Each one of us sing and rap about the one we are after, charming her and trying to get her attention. Franky and Stompin' Bob each deliver a 45 second rap." The artwork was designed by Stompin' Bob. He commented: "We all wanted a peaceful-looking cover. I checked through our picture archives and chose a picture from us performing at the "Penguin Play Awards". I then vectored it and made it look different, and modified the shape too, and used that. The background is just peaceful, that's all I can say."

Critical reception[edit]

Raymond Vegas of "Music Spy" gave the song a positive review:

Penguin Band are definitely on a roll. Two number 1's and hit singles, how far can they get with this success? "Amazing" is one of those non-cheesy R&B tracks, where there's a lot of play-on lyrics and even two decent raps by Franky and Stompin' Bob - good job on those, boys! Petey K sings a bit more on this. He should get onto the mic more often instead of producing, but it's a good start for him, he'll get far too. The beat is nor slow nor fast, that's what I like to hear. "Dashing and Peppy" had a more upbeat tempo, this one is just right. To conclude, "Amazing" is a great song if you like those non-cheesy love songs, and if you like fast love songs (just a bit). I'd suggest buying it. 4/5 stars
