The Antarctica Premier League or the APL, is professional soccer league that is based in the USA. Founded in 1999, the APL has quickly established itself as one of the most popular leagues in Antarctica. The league is currently composed of 20 teams.

With captures of football legends such as Preston Greaves and Will Bravo, the APL became the center of football, right up there with Liga de Futbol.

The APL is one of the many leagues in Antarctica, the other significant leagues being Liga de Futbol of Castilla and Liguria , Super Liga of Lisboagal, Archipelago Football League, which caters to the rest of the Ninja Archipelago, and the Yowian Soccer League, of Yow, which is ridiculed by most of the football world.

History

Establishment

The APL was founded in 1999, by Guillermo, who put recreational teams that played in the USA in a tournament to see who was the best. The original 8 teams were the South Pole City Politicians, Polaris Comets, Shiverpool FC, Dorkugal Dorks, FC Inland, Penguiki Surfers, Newton United, and Archet Rangers FC. The next year, when the USA was formed, the first official sports league formed was the Antarctica Premier League. Slowly, the league grew as the income of matchdays grew.

In 2002, the UGFA World Cup was where the USA participated. Many officials predicted the USA would not make it past the group stage, but miraculously, they advanced to the quarterfinals. This increased the interest of football in the USA, and the APL began to boom.

In 2005, the South Pole Cup took place, in which teams from every country would compete in a tournament to see who in the best in all of Antarctica.

Expansion

After the first year of the APL, three new teams were introduced to the league: Hashville Hashtags FC, FC Club Penguin, and Mattress United. When the Guillermo announced the new teams, he said many more teams were to come.

In 2004, the council decided that Freezeland, Club Penguin, Dorkugal and UnitedTerra would be allowed to join the APL. 17 more teams joined, which brought the tally up to 30 more teams.

In 2005, another 10 teams were inducted into the APL, and they decided to create a second league, which would be a lower tier. These teams would compete to win the Antarctica Promotion Cup, which would grant them induction into the APL. Each year, 3 teams would be promoted, and 3 teams would be demoted.

Rules

• Each team can have a minimum of 15 players, and a maximum of 23.
• With every win, you gain 3 points, with every loss, you gain 0. If you tie, you gain 1 point.
• If you gain 7 yellow cards throughout your season, the UGFA decides what your penalty will be.
• When given a red card, you are suspended for the game you were playing, and the next game. You are fined a week's salary.
• Each team plays 38 games.
• The teams in the top 8 standings enter a 9 game tournament. There are two semifinal, and whoever has the highest aggregate score wins.
• Whoever wins the final wins the Antarctic Premier League.
