The CRS-Class Light Cruiser is a warship class in the Ed Island Space Command Fleet used as a light Battlecruiser and auxillary vessel.

Design[edit]

The CRS-class Cruiser is a small ship that is used in both offensive and defensive roles. This type of ship is known for its large personnel and equipment capacity, which makes it ideal for infantry, vehicle, and matériel deployments during ground engagements.

At 686 meters long, the standard battlecruiser follows the typical architecture of an Ed Island ship: a sleek, amphibious design with sweeping contours, bulbous sections, and perfect symmetry, designed for maximum mobility in atmosphere during the deployment of infantry, as well as for a significant level of agility when in combat in orbit. It is roughly comparable in size and use to the Prosperity Space Stations used by Shops Island.

CRS-class battlecruisers are typically armed with several dozen energy weapons, which are used both in ship-to-ship combat and in bombardment operations. Similar to the Incorruptible, each cruiser has weapon emplacements along its lateral lines. These weapons include plasma torpedo turrets and point-defense lasers, although less powerful and in greater numbers. The plasma torpedoes can be aimed and launched at the ground, as a form of highly-destructive orbital bombardment. In addition, each ship also contains a gravity lift along the bottom.

The most destructive capabilities of the ship lies with the gravity lift. By diverting plasma into a single beam, the ship can turn the very ground and everything on it into glass. This process is highly destructive, as it takes upwards of 30 years to reverse. However, many systems on the ship, including shields and weapons, are powered down during this, leaving it vulnerable. This is usually done when total ground and air superiority has been achieved, but can be done to decimate extreme amounts of troops.

The cruiser's repulsor engines are a form of "reactionless drive" that make use of negative matter. Negative matter has negative mass and has a "repulsive" effect on the normal matter of the ship when placed behind it. This results in a powerful forward thrust in both space and an atmosphere.

Ships Of This Class[edit]

  • CRS-Unrelenting - Shot down during the Fall of Nexon, later the site of a smaller conflict.
  • CRS-Unflinching Resolve - Captain Yolo's command vessel during the same conflict.
  • CRS-Infinite Succor
  • CRS-Glorious Advance
  • CRS-Minor Transgression
  • CRS-Absolution
  • CRS-Abolishment - Replacement for the Unrelenting

History[edit]

The CRS-class Light Cruisers were constructed in August 2013, and first deployed in September of the same year. They first saw heavy use during the Fall of Nexon, where they defended major troop deployments and fighter craft. One ship, the Unrelenting, was shot down by nuclear missiles. It remained mostly intact, however. Later, the downed Unrelenting was the site of a Pengumorph outbreak, due to the eggs carried on board the ship in a laboratory.

By 2022, the CRS-class was replaced by the larger, identical CCS-Class Battlecruiser, although most of the CRS-class remained in service, mostly as auxiliary vessels. By the time of the Primordial War, the CRS-class were considered "museum pieces."
