The Main Page has been revamped. Everyone, even TurtleShroom- that burdensome stickler for the satus quo -applauded the brilliance of ZK.

However, TurtleShroom called foul on one problem...

This was imported from the original Club Penguin Wiki back in Wikia and edited to work on the Fanon. Even after the CPW changed when TurtleShroom was thrown out, this relic from TS' reign continued to haunt the CPFW's Main Page, even after ZK's first colorful reform of the Wikia main page. When we moved, this clunker followed, and if TS had his way, it'd follow the site until the end of time.

This was designed by ZK, who artfully fused the item into the brilliant new Main Page, at the saddening (to TS) cost of stripping everything from MainTop except the number of articles and Albert Einstein's quote.


The Debate

Our first speechgiver: TurtleShroom, a wiki veteran who opposes any and all change unless absolutely necessary to the survival of the wiki.
After that, we will hear from ZK/Zone/ZoneSama/PogoPunk32, who is open-minded, level-headed, brilliant, and your next Staffer. He is willing to change anything at any time, and sometimes, for no other reason except for the Lulz.

    • Skillfully crafted to not distort comfortable navigation.
    • Fits all size screens, from old cathode-rays to LCDs to cell phones.
    • Merges seamlessly with ZK's win.
    • Matches ZK's win.
    • TS opposes it.
    • Takes up virtually no space.


  • MAIN_PAGE/HEADER CONS:
    • Has absolutely nothing by way of info, except number of mainspace articles and the date the CPFW moved.
    • Links to Special:Statistics, which is as irrevelant as any MainTop link.
    • Does not include any links or data.
    • Is stripped bare of any remotely useful links.
    • Is mostly eye-candy. Awesome eye-candy, but still... eye-candy.
    • Lists date of move, not date of founding.


TurtleShroom Defends MainTop

MainTop is as old as the wiki itself and contains numerous links that are very useful for checking things out. Unlike Special:RecentChanges, MainTop can deliver specifics such as a list of the newest articles or display a gallery of files sorted by date. Without MainTop, all of these Special Page goodies are buried where no man would ever look. I use MainTop's features all the time.

MainTop provides trivia and details absent from Main_Page/Header. Main_Page/Header gives no links or linkable data and is simply a placeholder without any functional purpose.

It's all I ask. I'm on board with the new Main Page and approve of the entire design. All I want is MainTop to be where it always has been and always will be. ZK will argue that keeping MainTop is selfish and serving a special interest, but ask yourself: is it really that burdensome? I am willing to remove the dates and the quote. My plan won't even remove Main_Page/Header, rather, it'll have it keep Einstein's quote in place while MainTop serves as the welcome wagon.

If all else fails, I'll even be willing to MERGE MainTop's features into Main_Page/Header.

I've surrendered everything on the Main Page except this detail. Why do you want it gone, besides the fact that I support it and that it's old? I've invited ZK to help me merge it into Main_Page/Header, but he said it'd be an abomination. I also suggested a "Show/Hide" button to keep MainTop under control while maintaining its functionality. He said no.

You can't really be this stupid, but I guess I'll humor you;

  • Would not be redundant if Main_Page/Header had its welcome removed: And if the header had its welcome removed, it'd look all blank and a waste of space.

I have compensated by keeping the Einstein quote at the very least. That's as far as I'm willing to go, and the reason for that is because you show absolutely no effort in trying to keep the maintop. This page itself isn't a discussion; you've turned it into a joke. Adding pointless images and insulting yourself while kissing my butt is an obviously clear statement that you're fine with the main header. Zone Defends Main_Page/Header

My simple reason for keeping it and removing Template:Maintop is that a majority of people did not like it. It's clunky, its huge, and keeping it would mean that it takes up a third of the page. Why is it even needed, its not needed, Main Page/header does what that thing does. The only reason for keeping it is because its old, but this wiki has to stop living in the past and move on to the future. My priority is the future of this wiki; once everyone gets bored of it and leaves, I'm paranoid that if we don't do something soon the wiki will simply collapse if we don't prepare for the next generation.

The new main page is designed more content and less user related stuff, while trying to look professional as well. I seem to of covered all of those fields, but when Maintop was mentioned in the main page several people gave a polite "no" to it, and I would prefer sacrificing what makes 1 user happy than what makes several other users happy. I am sorry for the delay. I was swamped with math. Stupid, stupid math.

  • You can't really be this stupid.
    • Actually, I am. I am, actually; I am all the time, in fact. My parents constantly ask how a man as brilliant and intelligent as me can be so darn stupid on some things. I get it a lot, and because of this, I just say "yes".
  • Links nobody cares about. Is it content related? No, its not. It just links to special pages instead of content.
    • Caring or not is a matter of opinion, and Main_Top/Header's link to special:Stastics isn't too content-oriented, either. Besides, how is special:NewPages not content-oriented? It gives you links to every mainspace article (content) that was created in recent times. special:NewFiles presents the most recently uploaded images (also content). This is indeed content and is extremely useful if you have no life like I do. It helps me keep track of what's going on.
  • Yeah and so does the toolbox on the sidebar.
    • Add MainTop's links and I'll be silent.
  • Care factor.
    • [1] - (It doesn't even make sense. What IS a care factor? Plus, I've wanted to use that Objection service again for ages.)

    • I have been completely defeated and owned in every way possible in this argument. I have removed the clock from MainTop.

    • MainTop delivers a welcome better than Main_Page/Header, in my opinion. The quote looks nice in there, though. I just don't like all of the data and usefulness of MainTop being stipped in the name of streamlining and efficiency. When Google, YouTube, Microsoft, and the CPW did that, we got the "define:" parser removed, screwed over, Windows Vista, and I lost my job, respectively.

    • As for insulting myself, I do it all the time. I've long relenquished the idea of self-esteem (though I still have self-confidence to succeed) and, if my family is to be believed, never give myself enough credit. At one of the absolute nadims of my life, my father looked me in the eye and asked me if I'd ever take my grandfather's old gun and take my own life. I was extremely insulted and furiously responded with a "no" and how suicide would send me to the depths of the fiery underworld, and yada yada yada. When I asked why he asked that, he said that my lack of self-esteem made him worry greatly.

I wholeheartedly agree with your father. That low self-esteem of yours might of just cost you the maintop you love so much. I'm not your enemy or anything but I really worry about you sometimes, especially what your future is going to be like. Ahh well, I probably shouldn't pry into other people's personal issues - back on topic;
The thing is, many of those things are non-content related. Sure, the main header we're using at the moment does have some special page links, but it also has some content links. How many articles related to content we have, it links to the main page, the Club Penguin banner also links to the party planner (would be great if you could come to it). Also, we are not google/youtube/microsoft/whatever, we USED to be wikia but now we are our own domain. I am trying to keep the main page more focused on content because of this issue. I don't want new users coming in here and having no idea what's going on, we need to pave the way for the next generation. Sure, some of us might stay here but I can tell you now a lot of users in the future won't have time for this wiki. We'll all grow up, get jobs, and have too busy of a schedule to even edit here. You wanna know why the oldwiki's gone to crap? It's because everything back there was so confusing for new users, and without our guidance they have no idea what they're doing. Your points are very convincing, and in regards to the traffic project, I actually support that, and heck, I'll even try to help when I'm let out of school. (I'm officially finished with math this Sunday!) I could simplify or break down the censorship systems, or the "do" and "don't" of morality, or maybe lay out the holiness clause. I could also do something like teach infoboxes to the Masses- I'm not too bad at that -or simply stay out of your way and let you do what you know best.
What really won me over, though, was when you reminded me that everyone except me has a life to live one day. They'll all move on and we need to have instructions for our heirs, unless we want cursing, poor grammar writing, lameoes like Kingofcp. We each need to lay down our best skills and abilities so that everyone can go and carry it on without us. This would require the entire community to give all they know, and not just the top users. It's daunting, but I support it.
As for MainTop? Well, have the Masses not spoken here? Eight votes can not lie, ZK. You win.

P.S.: I believe that suicide is a ticket to hell, and because of my low self-esteem, I have to prove everything I do to myself more than to others. It's why my ultimate goal in college is a doctorate. I need that kind of self-esteem. My cousin-in-law (the Prior Commitment) has urged me to begin researching college. My goal? Doctorate/PhD in telecommunications (whatever plugging computers into walls and making them see each other to share network files, that's my PhD) and a minor in political science (because running for office is my real dream).

Currently after the main page is all sorted out and finished (still have much work to do; need to write a guide, need to make a custom partybanner, and because my hard drive on my old comp kicked the bucket this means I can't draw anything for awhile because that comp had all my illustrator and photoshop programs on it) I also plan to make more portals other than the X-Virus portal, and then after that I need to focus on Nightmare Epic, so I have a pretty busy schedule as it is. We also need caretakers for portals, so anyone who I deem worthy enough to take care of my babies gets the job; Ninjinian has already been guaranteed a caretaker spot in the music portal. Basically trying to make this place as newcomer friendly as possible; I think we all remember our first time on wikis, I sure remember mine - Dancing Penguin had to create pages for me because I had no idea how to make an article, and it took me about 2-3 months to even realize we had a shoutbox.
As for your low self-esteem, I'll give you some advice but first you need to know something about me; I was a recluse when I was around 14. I sat by myself, didn't talk to anyone, wouldn't even look people in the eye. Eventually I got sick of all of the loneliness and stopped caring about what other people thought about me, and started to try to make my life the way I wanted it to be. Now I'm 17 and I'm the complete opposite of what I was like 3 years ago; I have plenty of friends, and I love being social, meeting new people and finding out what their views on the world is. You can only change if you're willing to change bro, and the first step is to stop caring about what other people want you to be, stop caring about what other people think of you and just let go.   • Q: Will the losing item be deleted?
    • A: Absolutely not. If Main_Page/Header wins, MainTop will be retired to the Template Namespace. It'll never knock on your door again, but TS will probably put it on his userpage or something. If MainTop wins, Main_Page/Header will lose the welcome message and just be the quote placeholder.
  • Q: Why is something so trivially stupid being brought to a vote?
    • A: That's because TurtleShroom is a stubborn old geezer that can't take any change without a fight. It's why he was demoted.
  • Q: If Main_Page/Header wins, will TurtleShroom shut up about this?
    • A: Absolutely. One of the few things TurtleShroom feels he must obey is the will of the Masses on a poll. He has no choice but to submit to the rule of the majority, unless he wants to be a sickening, corrupt hypocrite. Vote your mind and get him otu of your hair!
