The Polaris Democratic Party, otherwise referred to as the Democrats and the P-Dems is Polaris' main and largest political party, and has a prominent political factions within the Polaris City Council, boasting about 95% of the seats in both the Municipal Assembly, as well as the Executive Board. The Polaris Democratic Party has held on to the city's districts since the Liberal Revolt of 1942, in which the city suddenly switched from a somber, melancholy conservative city to an happy, efficient liberal city. The Polarian Democrats are one of the most influential in Northwest Eastshield, and has supporters as far away as Gemini.

History[edit]

Early beginnings (1938-1942)[edit]

The Polaris Democratic Party was formed in 1938, by many Laissez-faire aristocrats and was led by Phillip Monte Captio, the grandson of Jacob Albert Monte Captio, the founder of the city. The Polaris Democratic Party first held it's party rallies within the walls of Grand Stone Bank, which at the time was one of the city's greatest banking facilities. Beginning with a mere 50 members, the Polarian Democratic Party convinced the city's wealthiest penguins to join in the fight against the then-in-power Naughtzee Polarian government and Kingfish1928. The Kingfish-led government condemned the party and labelled it "a conspiracy to topple the City". Since the City Charter at the time outlawed municipal elections (per age-old Whoot doctrine), Kingfish didn't do much to squash the party. (He regretted that, later.

Liberal Revolution (1942-1945)[edit]

After the Liberal Revolution, in which all Conservative members of government were usurped of their political positions by the protesters, a new, safe liberal government was installed, with Phillip Monte Captio being the first Liberal Mayor of Polaris. They also convened to draft an entirely new City Charter for Polaris, scrapping the Naughtzee charter (penned jointly by Whoot and Kingfish) in favor of one fitting their own image.

Although the Kingfish Complex remained a prominent government building until 1999, the Democrats held the their party meeting|party meetings in the original headquarters of the city of Polaris, Connery Hall. They refurbished and rebuilt Connery Hall in 1945, and it was made taller at a height of 800 ft. tall. Ironically, they still conducted some governmental matters in Kingfish's tower until 1999, when they began the transition to the Polaris Harborfront Center that ended in 2005.

Modern Day Polaris (1945-present)[edit]

After seizing power, the city made attempts to purge Polaris of any Kingfish-era item. Mainly, they succeeded in demolishing the smaller buildings built in the Kingfish era to make Polaris a modern, powerful city. The Polaris Democrats were regarded as one of the best political parties and the city, and received millions of Fish worth of funds from local donors, which made the party one of the richest and wealthiest in the country.

However, they never actually succeeded in erasing Kingfish. A notable example is a large bronze statue of Kingfish in a poorer neighborhood of the city. Unable to demolish it, they simply had a cube-shaped building built around its parameter. The statue was actually encased inside another statue, one of Phillip Monte Captio. It was then left to decay. Most Polarians don't even know of it anymore. Another example is that there are still some Kingfish-named areas within Polaris, but are located in the suburbs, namely.

Stance on Current Issues[edit]

Immigration[edit]

The City of Polaris formally embraces newcomers and immigrants to the mainland and the city of Polaris, citing large economic growth. The Party as well as the city also condones $15 million to be set aside for the encouragement of immigrants. The city's airport, Polaris-City International Airport, is already a major hub for many sirlines and recieves many international travellers each year. The PDP is also open to supporting the children of illegal immigrants and introduced Selana's Act in 2010 to give university and college funding for penguins and puffles who are the children of illegal immigrantd. who evidently may be in a serious financial situation. Polaris is also strong on not allowing illegal immigrants to enter the country, by implementing a naval patrol for migrant ships.
