Gargoyles are a species of penguin that turn to stone when they stand still, like statues. They have the same shape as penguins, but they have a sharper beak and do not have a tummy patch. Gargoyles are the carriers of brilliant black orbs, these black orbs are called a Gehema. The Gehema is the source of a gargoyle's power, it also gives the gargoyle the ability to turn into stone. As for the gargoyle itself, it has acquired black phoenix wings, which allow it to take flight. Gargoyles are mainly located in dangerous, evil areas. They are drawn to the evil like a moth to a flame, and they are versatile as their Gehema allows them to manipulate their surroundings. The Gehema allows a gargoyle to shoot bolts of black lightning at its prey, and as more gargoyles gather together, each with their own Gehema, they are able to summon more powerful abilities. Many gargoyles located in an area are able to control the weather and summon creatures from the Underworld. They are a hostile race and attack anyone they deem as weak. Their strength lies in their numbers, however there are usually only five or so gargoyles in one area.
Background[edit]
Gargoyles have been around since medieval times. During the Medieval Party of Club Penguin Island, gargoyle statues are sold as furniture for penguin igloos. The statues are said to ward off evil spirits. These statues are fake however, and do not have a Gehema. Instead, the Gehema these statues hold is made of granite and does not contain any power. Many medieval castles included gargoyles, churches and cathedrals were also known to house gargoyles, as some sat perched on the bell towers. Gargoyles came from the Underworld and some are used as spies since many penguins mistake a real gargoyle for a statue if said gargoyle stands still, turning to stone. Gargoyles like to be on scaffolding, or on building ledges. They are found near castles or mansions such as the Darktonian Realm, Castle Bugzy, or Zone Fortress. Gargoyles turn to stone on the ledges, waiting for a victim to come into their vicinity, like hungry vultures hovering over a carcass.
The Gehema[edit]
Without its Gehema, a gargoyle is harmless. Only those with extreme evil power, such as Darktan, know how to use a Gehema to its full potential. The Gehema is a coveted artifact. To gain a Gehema from a gargoyle grants tremendous power to the wielder. It is said that the more Gehema a person has, the more powerful they become. Villains such as Nightmare and Darktan have attempted to create Gehema farms, to collect several Gehema from many gargoyles but the gargoyles are in such a large number that they overwhelm their captors. Gehema are very expensive items, and are rare to find. Many adventurers trying to claim a Gehema for themselves have never returned from their journey, most likely because the Gehema is the curse of the gargoyle; when one holds a Gehema, he/she grows wings and turns into stone when they are standing still. If they lose the Gehema or get rid of it, the curse still lingers in the penguin, however they do not have the power a gargoyle has, only the ability to fly and turn to stone. The Gehema reacts to other Gehema in its presence, for example if there were fifty gargoyles, each with their own Gehema, they would be able to do things such as controlling the weather, summoning demon penguins from the Underworld, and other powers. If more gargoyles were to arrive, such as a thousand gargoyles, then they would have even more power. There has never been seen a thousand gargoyles, however theories suggest that if there were a thousand gargoyles in the one place, each with their own Gehema, then they may have the power of deletion.
Involvement[edit]
Gargoyles are found in evil places such as Darktonian Realm, Nightmare Crater and the Underworld. Most of the time only five of them are seen in the one place, perched on ledges in castles or camouflaging in igloos. Some penguins have had a gargoyle statue in their igloo for years, not knowing whether or not it is a real gargoyle. They are usually active at night, and stand still (turn to stone) in the day, this is how they avoid detection.
