The airport has two satellite terminals. The larger Domestic Terminal, and to the east, the smaller International Terminal. The Military Aircraft Area is located at the far end of the airport grounds, housing eighteen hangars, the Control Tower, offices. The Airport is the main air based utilized for the landing of the Space Shuttles.

History[edit]
Early Years[edit]
In the 1970s, the ports of Gentoo Island began to get congested. Much of the ships were cargo ships and passenger ships often had to wait as the giant ships are loaded. This made the passengers complain and after a general consensus, it was decided that a small airstrip be built on Gentoo Island. Building began in 1980 and was finished after only a month
The original airstrip only consisted of a single, unpaved runway. The runway, Runway 1/19, stretched for 8,000 feet. This proved enough to alleviate the congestion at the ports. Due to the small size and construction, only small propeller planes could land at the airstrip. In 1992, it was decided to pave the runway in asphalt. This closed the runway for a few weeks. This upgrade also lengthened the runway to 10,000 feet.
Airport Merger[edit]
In 2001, the first plans for an airport expansion were talked about. The expansion would add another, much larger runway, Runway 10/28, to run perpendicular the present runway. The airport would also expand its gates, control tower and other infastructure. However, there wasn't enough funds for the expansion, so it was scrapped.
Then, in 2007, when PASA was formed, a military airport was proposed. This angered the citizens of Gentoo Island and protests were made in front of PASA Headquraters. After the plan was disapproved by a federal court, the airport was to become one sole airport, utilized both for military and civilian use. This meant that the former airport would have to be expanded. This time, the US Government provided funds for the expansion of the current airport.
The airport was closed for two years and then re-opened on June 17, 2010. The old runway was destroyed and four new runways were built. The existing buildings were also destroyed and built from the ground up.
Today[edit]
The northern end of the airport is used for military operations, while the southern area is used for civilian operations, such as commercial airlines and general aviation. PASA and the US Air Force periodically use the military section for testing and classified operations. The Space Shuttle also lands on the military runways. The civilian section functions just like any other normal airport.

Structure[edit]
Civilian Area[edit]
The Civilian Area has two separate terminals: the Domestic and International terminals. The Domestic Terminal is larger of the two and has 12 gates. The International Terminal has 5 gates, making for a total of 17 gates. There are many food courts within the terminals and two viewing decks, one in each terminal. In total, there are five floors within the civilian area building.
Military Area[edit]
The Military Area only allows high ranking special officials and PASA staff inside. There is a tall building, which acts as the main office of the area. On top of the building is a control tower, making the airport one of the few with two control towers. This control tower is in charge of all military operations of the airport.
Outside the office building are 18 giant hangars. Here is where PASA's test planes are stored and repaired. The Space Shuttle also comes into the hangars for post-landing checks after it has landed. In addition, there is a small fleet of US Air Force planes located here, as the airport doubles as a small military base.
