Gilneas, officially the Acadian Overseas Territory of Gilneas, is a colony of Acadia located north of Snowiny. It was discovered in 2005 in an expedition funded by the then President of Acadia Greg Cleanington. It has grown ever since and had gained a high degree of autonomy.
History[edit]
In 2005, Acadia, a five year old country, set out to get colonies, to rival countries such as Snowzerland or Castilla. The expedition was funded by the Acadian government, and was planned by Greg Cleanington. Four ships accompanied by an Acadian naval ship set off in March. After passing north of Snowiny, they discovered an island in the middle of Snowiny and the Falkland Islands.
With the supplies, and with some woods from the trees on the island, the penguins built houses for them to live in. They then sent messages back to Acadia, and after finding out where its location was, the Acadian government started advertising the place. Many penguins moved to Gilneas, since it was still close to Acadia and most of civilization.
In 2015, the colony's population had grown at an unbelievably fast rate, and it was about 400,000. The citizens wanted independence, so a referendum was held and 70% of the population voted for more autonomy.
Government[edit]
Since Gilneas is a colony, the head of state is Brant, the President of Acadia. The government of Gilneas is a special administrative colony, which means that they are governed by Acadia but have a high degree of autonomy. There is a local parliament that makes bills, then sends it to the governor, who decides whether he will veto it or not. If it is, it can be overruled by a two-thirds vote. This system is much like that of it's mother country, Acadia, and the USA.
Economy[edit]
A big part of Gilneas' economy is farming, since there are limited places to farm in in Acadia, and Acadia is an high demand for fresh food. Manufacturing is also a big part of the economy, which either produces items to either ship to the rest of Antarctica or to Acadia, or to stock up the many stores on the island. Another part of the economy is tourism which isn't a main part of the economy but important, as many penguins from all over Antarctica come to experience the beauty of Gilneas.
Culture[edit]
Gilneas's culture is very similar to that of Acadia, its mother country. However, Gilneas's culture is even more influenced by the Ninja Archipelago than Acadia, with Francterre having the most influence in culture, as seen by the district of Lautrec in Cleanington.
Geography[edit]
Most of Gilneas's landscape is flat and covered in forests, with the exception of central Gilneas, there are a few mountains. Gilneas also has a few rivers, with their source in the mountains.
Transport[edit]
There are many roads in Gilneas, linking the whole island. There isn't any train systems, although one is under construction. In 2015, Autoroute 1, the only divided highway on the island, was opened, linking Greenfield in the south to Cleanington in the north. There is another divided highway, Autoroute 2, due to be finished in 2016.
