Golden City, or The Golden City is the capital of Culldrome Yow, an overseas territory of the Culldrome Isles. Formerly the capital of the Yowien Empire it is, it was taken under Culldrom control during The Great Yowien War. It also the largest, most populous and first founded city on Yow Kingdom Island. It has many resources, and is located on the northern edge of Yow. It is home to most of the population, and every year there is a 0.8% increase in the population. It is the largest, by area, city in all of Antarctica, which also makes it the most sparsely populated city with only one penguin for every 2 square miles. It is well known for its many monuments, neighborhoods, cafés, and parks. It is home to many creatures of many cultures, resembling Culldrome. On the outskirts and coastlines of the city are large defensive towers. The towers make a ring around the city and contain large cannons in them. The cannons are strong enough to destroy an enemy battleship in two, accurate shots. Golden City is central to the Culldrome economy, generating a substantial amount of wealth for the country and is an important financial center.

Golden City was one of the small cities during the Viking and High Penguin tribe period. The small village was known as Denity, after the tribes' leader Denise. It was a large farming town, and was a friendly place. It was governed by a council of High Penguins, and each council member were past tribe leaders. Sadly in 230 AD, a massive hurricane attacked the island. It cause tsunamis, and earth quakes somehow. Only Denity was left, until the Penguin Empire sailed to the land. They destroyed everything, and left the island in ruins. The Penguin Empire continued to destroy, and ransack the islands in the Yowien Sea. Golden City was re-discovered on August 10, 1990, after Alexander Clanin's boat washed on shore. The are he found was a clear field, with some scattered forests. He camped on the island over night, and met some local terns. They spoke English, and Spanish. The next day, Alexander sailed to King George's Island and told everyone about the land he found. A group of immigrants sailed to the land, completely passing the other areas of Yow Kingdom Island. They settled on the land, and Alexander took charge. It became a famous city, and eventually the capitol of the new nation. Soon pavement roads were built, and nice buildings were built. Soon it became a busy port city, growing every day. In 1999 Yow had grown very large, Golden City ended up being one of the largest cities in Antarctica. More immigrants came, as Golden City introduced an economic hope for the poor. In 2013, Yowien tensions with other countries increased, leading to The Great Yowien War. The large war tore apart the once mighty nation which was then divided up in the Partition of Yow. The Culldrome Isles seized control of the city and made it the capital of their new territory, Culldrome Yow. Today, the city is a peaceful haven for the many diverse inhabitants.

Golden City is located on a large stub of land, that sticks out of Yow Kingdom Island. Several rivers run through the city, making canals through the land. The canals are sometime used for transportation, too. These canals made it easy to travel through the city, during the 1990s when other forms of transport were seldom. Golden City is also interestingly placed, both a coastal and forest city. The city extends into the middle of the island, until the major rivers in the central part of the island.
Golden City is very warm, averaging 18 degrees Fahrenheit. It has been 20 degrees before, and some scientist think in the past it has been 40 degrees. Many think that the city's region is cooling, but there is no evidence for this theory.
Golden City has some scattered parks, some of them being quite small. Most of the commercial industries are located near the ocean, and the neighborhoods are closer inland. This makes the neighborhoods calm and close to nature.
There are many different and distinct neighborhoods in Golden City. Unlike most cities, Golden City contains many cultural neighborhoods where many immigrants from different countries live. The city is known for this cultural mix; all cultures live with each other in peace, although are unable to escape busy city life.
Here are a list of famous and infamous neighborhoods of Golden City.
Little Lisboagal was the first multicultural neighborhood in Golden City, which was founded in 1990 by immigrants from Lisboagal who fled from the Castillan Invasion of Lisboagal. It consists of traditionally built Lisboagese buildings and cobblestone sett streets. The neighborhood is highlighted with it's giant Telenacle Cathedral for the neighborhood at the neighborhood square. Also, there are many restaurants and cafes that serve the traditional Lisboagese cuisine and have some of their food imported from Lisboagal or brought in by Lisboagese farmers from the countryside. Other places include small cabarets that host some Bossa Nova jazz from the old former colony of Nutzilia. Little Lisboagal also is home to the individual Embassy of Lisboagal, since it was built before the Yellow Zone.
The Frankterran (or Frankish) Quarter was founded in 1997, when many Frankish immigrants moved to the city. This area is widely known for its fine cuisine and interesting culture. There are many restaurants here where, both Franks and non-Franks, flock to. The rich Frankish cuisine is famous around Golden City. In addition, the artistic Frankish culture is also widely known. There are many large art galleries here, where many Frankish artists show off their many kinds of artistic works.
Around the mid-1990s, Yow attracted many Zhouese immigrants. Most of them decided to form their own community and named it Zhoutown. Soon, it became famous for it's prevalent Zhouese culture and cuisine. A large portion of the city's Zhouese population live here, but it has also attracted many others from widely different cultures. The inhabitants live in the many Zhouese architectural style houses in the region. The cobblestone streets are narrow and are lined with beautiful Zhouese trees. Zhoutown becomes lively and full of penguins when Zhouese celebrations occur, the most famous being Zhouese New Year. There are also many Zhouese restaurants in Zhoutown which are known for it's unique cuisine.
The Business District was founded in 1990, and consists of large skyscrapers that house many businesses, offices and several financial institutions. There are only a few apartments here, with most of the land being dominated by commercial use. The District has some restaurants for the employees' lunch breaks, but most eateries in the Business District are small cafes, with Snowbucks as the most common cafe in the Business District; they have over 7 chains in the district alone. The reason why there are more Cafe's than restaurants is because the Business district is relatively busy, and most business penguins prefer to buy a cup of coffee and something small to eat before starting their day.
Originally, the Business District started as a large open field that everyone in the nearby neighborhoods would come to and trade and barter items. The Yowien Stock Market building was built a year later in 1991, which established the Club Penguin Gold coin as the official currency, one of the first nations outside Club Penguin itself to do so. Later, more Yowien businesses sprung up and built their headquarters in the District, with some even building entire skyscrapers to house their offices. The district is also home to Circuit Valley, a small region where the offices of many electronic companies are housed.
After The Great Yowien War, a large portion of the District was destroyed, including the Yowien Stock Market and Trade Centers. After the Culldrome take-over, the two major buildings were rebuilt into one as the Culldrome Yow Stock Exchange (CYSE) Building. Today, the CYSE Building is often crowded by hundreds of accountants and other workers, becoming the financial heart of Culldrome Yow and a major finance center in the Culldrome Isles.
The Colonial Apartments, then named "Greg's Village" was built in 1990 at the same time the Lisboagese and Castillans built their neighborhoods. The inhabitants of Greg's Village were loyalists from mainland Colonial Antarctica who named the city after King Greg. Greg's Village started out as a small group of red brick colonial buildings in a very UK style, the buildings were only two stories high, including the roof. The village was close together and had mixed dirt and cobblestone roads. It had a small square that had an apothecary, a small Cream Soda pub, and a small telenacle. The village grew favor by King Alexander, and they were considered part of the influental groups of English Speaking neighborhoods that helped shape Yow Kingdom. As the village grew larger, they expanded, and the village soon reached one square mile, which King Alexander thought would be the village's borders. Because of the influx of Puffish and Freezelandian immigrants in the mid 90's, the village heavily grew, and it was agreed that the village would be torn town and rebuilt into large apartments to create space. Thus, King Alexander approved the idea and all the buildings in the village were destroyed except for the Apothecary and the Cream Soda Pub, which still exist today side by side with the 20 story apartments that now cover the Colonial Apartments neighborhood. The old colonial square was converted into a grassy park with trees and a statue of King Alexander with a puffle. the Apothecary and the Cream Soda Pub are right across the street from the small park. The Colonial Apartments have regular asphalt streets and concrete sidewalks everywhere, and parking is done in underground garages for the residents of the apartments.
Despite the beginning of Colonial Antarctica's rule in 1990, many Puffles from Puffle'and did not like the Penguin minorities that lived in places like Scotzeh and the south of Snowdon, and it was decided by some of the puffle Generals of Puffle'and to deport some of the Penguins, even though they were living on the island just as long as the puffles. Although King Greg did not approve of the generals' plans, many Penguin residents of Puffle'and were not satisfied with their living conditions because they felt like outsiders, so several Pertish Penguins decided to immigrate to Yow, which was a rumored island that claimed to have a lot of land. Immediately, many penguins left Puffle'and/Grand Permatan and arrived on ships to the newly started Golden City, then only containing the Landing and the Castillan and Lisboagese neighborhoods. King Alexander welcomed the english speaking comrades, and he gave them their own neighborhood inland from the coast. There, they settled the Pertish Quarter, which today is a quaint town with old brick buildings and rugged cobblestone streets. It contains many Cream Soda Pubs, boutique shops, and a square that has a telenacle. The Pertish Quarter was also an influential english speaking neighborhood involved in Yow's government.
The second largest of all the neighborhoods, King's Landing is located near Alexander's First Step Monument. It was founded in 1992, when the monument was established. The area attracted many immigrants from the Geek Empire, and therefore holds their culture a lot. The area is well influenced by the Geek culture, and technology. The roads are wide, large enough for large trucks to come through. It has nice beaches, and some large docks. It has a boasting market, and fancy Cream Soda bars. It is a great place for new families to start out, and raise chicks. The government has funded it with large parks, and nice schools. It's also the main area for tourist to visit, for the monument. It's a very busy neighborhood, and bustling with activity. Study shows that it is the busiest neighborhood in Golden City, and possibly all of Yow.
The smallest of all the neighborhoods, Little Alemania was founded by Alemanian immigrants in 1991. This was where Heimlich Zimmer immigrated to when he first arrived. Still to this day, Heimlich owns a mansion here. Little Alemania is highlighted with it's white houses with brown timber framing crammed together with narrow cobblestone streets in that typical Ninja Archipelago style. It is home to a small square that consists of the town's own Telenacle and many Cream Soda bars and restaurants.
Clanin was the second neighborhood established in Golden City, and the government's headquarters until 1999. In recent times, it has become more of a monument park, than neighborhood. It shows off most of Yow's traditional architecture, with large buildings and structures. The average home has two levels, with the highest being ten. It's also home for the Statue of Faith monument, which is in the middle of town square. There are two large Telenacle Cathedrals, which still hold services. King Alexander's old mansion is located by by the beach, and is a coastal neighborhood. There is a large canal near it, that citizens use to transit across the city. Clanin also contains many museums and five star hotels. A large university is located here, called Clanin University.
Despite the existence of the Frankish Quarter, Clanin is heavily influenced by Frankish culture, and architecture. Some of the citizens even speak French themselves. Frankish chefs have brought their recipes from Frankterre, and introduced them to Yow. They usually served grilled, deep fried, or raw RocketSnails.
Golden Park Estates
Golden Park Estates is a nice neighborhood that is home to large luxury mansions and villas that are typically two stories high. Many high wealth families and individuals live here; most are business penguins. The neighborhood is gated off from the rest of the city to ensure protection from gangs from the Barrios Pobres or the Favelas that may sneak into the regular city limits. The small mansions located here reflect a UK, Frankterran, Lisboagese, Ligurian, or Castillan architecture, depending on the family that lives there. This neighborhood has it's own elementary, middle school, and high school, a small supermarket, a hospital, amenities , and a small shopping center. One could live in the Golden Park Estates and live there all their lives without leaving the gates. The center of the neighborhood is home to a giant park, called Golden Park, and contains a giant fountain, a lot of foliage and flowers, four basketball courts, six tennis courts, a baseball diamond, and two playgrounds. Golden Park Estates is an English majority speaking community, and everyone is known for their friendliness.
Like any other large city in Antarctica, Golden City has its share of poorer neighborhoods home to higher rates of crime and is where most regular citizens tend to avoid. In Yow, most poorer neighborhoods mostly contain penguins and puffles who originated from Zhou, Lisboagal, and the colony of Nutzil.
The Favelas are the Lisboagese and Nutzilian equivalent of the Barrios Pobres; they are both poor neighborhoods that are subject to much violence and crime. Again, the poorer Lisboagese, mostly cityfolk, and the very poor Nutzilians whom most of them already lived in worse favelas in their home country, are forced into the Favela neighborhoods when they can not afford to buy land or to pay for a house. Unlike the Barrios, the Favelas were self built and are all houses, typically two storied and crammed. The streets are narrow and made of concrete, although there are a few run down asphalt roads that go through. Several stores can be found in the favelas, but they are often subject to gang raids. Also, the Favelas are known for some illegal trade and happen to house some Black Market activity in secret but commonly. Many of the poorer Zhouese moved into the former Barrios, and they have integrated among the Lisboaguese and Nutzilians. It is notorious for being one of the largest slums by area and is a common topic during diplomatic meetings.
Golden City is were Yow's best, and most updated architecture can be found. The city is built mostly with modern skyscrapers, or medieval towers. Architects are developing new skyscrapers, getting crazier every year. Since the dawn of the 21st century the tower was removed, and massive skyscrapers came. Many Golden architects like to challenge their building skills, and build the craziest buildings ever. Many crazy buildings have been accomplished in Golden City.
There are many restaurants in Golden City, many of them are based off of the ethnicity of the immigrants on the island. Some of the restaurants, however have a lot of fat food. This is only because of the foreign restaurants(e.g Taco Ball, McDoodles, etc.), while locally owned restaurants have healthier food. King Alexander has done his best to make sure the food is safe, and tasty to eat. Due to his carefulness, food sickness is really rare in the city and all of Yow.
Here is a list of SOME restaurants, there are much more then these:
- McDoodles (6 branches)
- Taco Ball (10 branches)
- iPop (13 branches)
- Snowbucks Coffee (18 branches)
- Burger Khan (3 branches)
- Absurd Donuts (7 branches)
Since Golden City is such a large city, many forms of transportation are used.
The government has gifted Golden City, with very excellent public transportation. The city provides the citizens with subways, buses, and taxis. However these ways of transportation cost money, 35 Gold Coins per passenger. These ways of transportation for very popular, and used often. But in 2011, during Yow's debt crisis, the people had less money to spend. This meant the government had less to spend to, and led to a shortening in the public transit. This forced more, and more citizens to buy their own transportation. After The Great Yowien War, public transportation was temporarily suspended but improved after it became incorporated into Culldrome Yow
There is only one airport in the city, King Alexander International Airport. It is the busiest airport in all of Yow, which transport many passengers in and out of Yow. However, this is the only mode of air transportation in the city. However, there are plans in the future to incorporate levitating transport, taking public transit to the next level (literally). This new type of transport is to resemble a small aircraft and plans to reduce congestion in busy city areas. The technology is estimated by many to arrive sometime in 2030, as it is nowhere near possible with current technology. The closest transportation to being in the air, is the Hover Board.
During Yow's debt crisis, more citizens have bought their own vehicles. Common vehicles are Motor Scooters, cars, motorcycles, bikes, and scooters. Since many citizens own cars, traffic has become a terrible problem in Golden City. Because of its narrow, two lane roads, traffic is very common. This, however, motivates citizens to take public transit, and therefore help payoff the great debt. After the Yowien War, roads improved drastically, with traffic slowly but surely going away. There are many plans to build elevated roads and highways to better improve the traffic issues.
There are no train stations in Golden City, since the city be too crowded for trains. The closest thing close to rail transport is the subway. The first subway tracks were built in 2000 and since then citizens have been using them a lot. Citizens found the subways to be a cheap, quick, and convenient alternative to other modes of transport. The subways are not government owned, but are owned by Yowien Subways Inc. The company operates and maintains the subway lines and any other hardware related to it. Although it is not government owned, it does receive lots of funding.
There are ten canals in Golden City, each one leads out to the sea and the coastal areas. The sea is sometimes called Golden Sea. The canals are small and narrow, resembling those in Frostize. However, the canals are large enough to fit two boats at one time. This has forced the government to make laws on the canals, such as traffic laws. Boats must drive on the right of the canal, and must keep at a steady speed of 3 knots. Boat travel on the canals is slowly increasing, as it becomes a cheaper alternative to public transport. The tourists that visit Golden City are also attracted to these boats and are quite fond of them.
The most common sport in Golden City is football, after the success of the Golden Warriors. The Golden Warriors is the official football team for Golden City. They are the second best team on the island, having Nilo's team be the best. The Golden Warriors were once really bad, but got better in 2003. They have won 57% of all the football games they've played, most of the games have been hosted in their stadium. The players are rough, tough, and player fair. Besides the official football team, there are dozens of little league teams.
Golden City had players from all sports sign a survey in 1990, and 2011. The survey shows how many of the sport players play a certain sport.

The local newspaper in Golden City is the The Yow Kingdom Times, and was the first newspaper on the island. The newspaper was started a month after Yow Kingdom was established, and was written in Golden City. The newspaper only focused on events in Golden City, but eventually begin to focus on all of Yow. It is the only newspaper still printing, and is the most famous newspaper in the Yowien Sea. But in recent years the newspaper has lost its fame, as the Information Age hits Yow.
