The Headcrab (Caput Parasitus manducans, literally "Head eating parasite") are fairly small creatures, roughly the size of a pumpkin, created as a brainwashing technique by Darktan. Most notably, their underbelly is almost completely covered by a large mouth used for feeding and latching onto the skulls of victims, essentially turning them into a "zombie."

Background[edit]
In an experiment to create a reliable creature for brainwashing enemies, Darktan had attempted to mutate a simple crab to attach onto a creature's head to "extract" knowledge from their mind, turning them into a mindless husk. While the initial experiment was successful, he found that the "Headcrabs" he had created simply zombified the victim, without actually brainwashing them. Deeming them a semi-success, he had mutated several more, until discovering that the Headcrab Zombies, as he had called them, indiscriminately attacked anything, be them friendly or otherwise. Deciding that they weren't worth the effort to attempt to fix, he simply used his powers to transport them somewhere else. The small group of headcrabs were transported to the Borderworld, without Darktan ever knowing the destination.
While thriving in the Borderworld, headcrabs were mutated once more by the dimension's strange properties. Looking less and less like average crabs, headcrabs began to resemble their present-day form. Three subspecies developed, each with their own unique properties, along with the gigantic Gonarch.
Description[edit]
While formerly resembling a regular crab, headcrabs had been mutated over time by the Borderworld, to a much more effective form. Each subspecies, while generally resembling each other, has its own unique properties. Common among all subspecies are the four, stubby legs, lack of eyes, and large mouth underneath.
Classic Headcrab[edit]
Headcrabs are fairly small creatures, about two feet long from front leg to back and a foot wide. They have round, smooth, tan-colored bodies and four legs, two long clawed ones on the front and two thick, stubby ones in the back. Despite their small size, the headcrab's back legs can support its entire body, allowing it to "tiptoe" across the ground and leap several feet into the air at its prey.
Fast Headcrab[edit]
The Fast Headcrab is much slimmer and is faster than a normal headcrab, having thinner, spindly legs, and smoother, smaller bodies. The legs of a fast headcrab also have elongated claws, which serve as weapons as well as a way to latch on to surfaces, waiting to attack unsuspecting prey.
Poison Headcrab[edit]
Poison Headcrabs can be identified by their dark skin and larger bodies. Because of this, they are much stronger than Classic and Fast Headcrabs. Their "fangs" can deliver a powerful toxin to injure a victim before attaching.
Gonarch[edit]
Also known as the "Headcrab Big Momma," little is known about how and when the metamorphosis from a headcrab to a Gonarch takes place, as few headcrabs ever reach that stage. While appearing very similar to a headcrab's anatomy there are a few differences, namely their massive size (about twice as tall as an average penguin), thick exoskeletons, and powerful legs with a large sack dangling from its underbelly. Gonarchs are easily one of the largest and toughest known creatures from the Borderworld, and are responsible for birthing Headcrabs.
Trivia[edit]
- This is a parody of the headcrabs from Half-Life.
- Foldy is extremely paranoid of these.
- Curiously, the method of attaching to a victim's head is eerily similar to the Pengumorph Facehugger.
