Ice City is an average sized city located in the Sub-Antarctic Islands on its own island. Founded by Jorkjon R Fransor in 1952, who called himself, the current leaders are trying to keep it as isolated as possible from the rest of Antarctica. Most of the island's architecture use compact snow and ice, as those were the only materials available when Jorkjon landed on the island. Though the conservative leaders wish to keep the island isolated, it is hard for them to do so due to its' close proximity to the major city (and Sub-Antarctic state capital) of Club Penguin. The island is pretty small, smaller than Club Penguin, but also lacks the large geographical features that CP has such as the mountain range and the "Great Forest".

They try to do a number of things that aren't legal in the USA, such as keeping new people from going to the island, not accepting Fish or Coins as a currency, and even having their own courthouse that isn't part of the US legal system! The courthouse is allowed to exist since the punishments aren't extreme (such as life in prison or deletion squad), but they were forced to get a fish/coin bank (located in a back corner of the City Mall), and also can only discourage people from going to the island, which only works some of the time.

History[edit]

The island was found and settled by Jorkjon R Fransor in 1952, after a few years of exploring for a new empty land outside of Olde Antarctica. Jorkjon built a few buildings using compressed snow blocks (like the ones used in igloos), and named the island Ice Land, with himself as the King. Jorkjon eventually had a family, but passed away 17 years after founding Ice Land, in 1969, with his son continuing the monarchy, though the "land" had less than a dozen citizens at the time. In 1992, the island had a large influx of citizens who were traveling the seas from Colonial Antarctica, who helped to expand the city. Though Ice Land mostly kept to themselves, they pledged their allegiance to the revolutionaries in the Antarctic Revolution, serving as a secret hideout for revolution soldiers (who also received free snow cones), with about half of their population of a few hundred joining the revolutionary army as well.

When the United States of Antarctica was formed, Ice Land joined, and changed their name to "Ice City". Most of the citizens were excited to be a part of "something bigger". However, in 2007 a new conservative bunch took over the city. They liked the way things were before when things were quieter, and since then have done everything they can can to isolate Ice City from nearby islands and the country as a whole. According to the USA laws, they can't totally do it (they can't restrict people from going to to the island). Despite this, 78% of the population sees them as great rulers.

Economy[edit]

Most of the island is self-sustaining, rarely importing or exporting due the citizens using Ices, and noone outside of the island accepting Ices as a currency. A lot of citizens do a lot of fishing to feed themselves, and gain Ices by selling extra fish they catch. Ices earned go to one of the island's few stores, or the City Mall, which sells everything not found in other stores.

Currency[edit]

Since the new Mayor and City Council took over Ice City in 2007, the island has used their own currency, much to the distaste of the US and Sub-Antarctica alike. The first introduced currency was "Snows". The exchange value was on par with the USA's Pebbles, but once the Pebble was exchanged for the Fish, their currency was changed as well. Ices were invented instead, and are claimed to be worth two times more than a Fish or Coin, even though they are just ice discs with carvings in them. But, since they aren't accepted anywhere except Ice City, it doesn't really matter how much they are claimed to be worth.

Demographics[edit]

When it was founded in the 1950s, Jorkjon Fransor (and later, his family) was the only penguin on the island. Growth was slow for Ice Land, having less than a dozen citizens when Jorkjon passed away (though, he wasn't trying to attract new citizens either, they enjoyed living in peace and quiet). In 1992, the influx of new citizens brought the island to about 260 residents, which steadily rose as the years went on, into the mid-2000s. In 2005, the population was 521 penguins according to the Sub-Antarctic Island Census. By 2009, it had grown to 682. According to the 2015 census, 947 penguins live on the island. A little under half of those own at least one pet puffle from Pet Shop. There aren't any wild puffles on the island, other than those that have run away from their owners, with all puffles being imported from the nearby Club Penguin. While it grew from the 2009 number, the rate of growth is much less than the decade prior, due to the mayor and city council discouraging people from moving to the island.

The species of penguins in the city is fairly mixed, with the largest percentages being King, Emperor, Adelie and Little Penguin, in no particular order. Specifically, Ice City has a higher Little Penguin percentage than a lot of other Sub-Antarctic Cities. Minorities on the island include Dark Penguins and High Penguins, with there being only one of each in the city (with the Dark Penguin in the local jail).

Locations[edit]

The city has four "Ices", that act like neighborhoods, located outside of and around the heart of the city (called Main City). They are North, East, South and West Ice.

Main City[edit]

  • City Mall is the largest of the island's retail locations, being the home of many stores and a few eateries, including a store similar to the Coffee Shop. Also, due to USA officials saying the city has to accept Fish and/or Coins as a currency, there is a small bank in the back corner of the mall that exchanges Fish and Coins for Ices, the island's currency. The owner of the mall is rumored to import all of his products from nearby islands, using Coins, but this hasn't been proven.
  • The Ice Cream Store has served the penguins of Ice City since the Antarctic Revolution, originally serving free snowcones to revolutionary soldiers. Since then, it has grown to sell snowcones, and the more popular treat of ice cream.
  • There was once a store called Mwa Mwa's Я Us, selling lots of Mwa Mwa related items and even acting as a "hangout" for the Mwa Mwa's on the island (just like the Pet Shop on Club Penguin). That is, until someone started a campfire in the building at night, causing it to melt (due to Ice City buildings mostly being made of packed ice and compact snow). It is rumored that the Mayor of Ice City did it after seeing an influx of Mwa Mwas coming to the city, hoping to scare them away. After the store melted, the owner of the City Mall built the island's first Pet Shop to sell domestic Puffles of all colors (imported, probably from CP) to penguins.
  • There's also a Toy Store and store called "WOW! Bakery" in the Main City.
  • Icey Courthouse is also located here. Built after the current mayor took office, it isn't quite legal according to the US Court System, not following the rules of the USA Constitution, with the (fake) Judge abiding by his own rules, the rules of the Icy City Council, or what's "right or wrong". The USA allows this courthouse to exist since it only sentences residents of the city, and to minor sentences. The only penguin to ever receive life in jail or worse was the Dark Penguin who's currently in jail, and may be taken to another island soon.
