Icenode, formerly known as Open Network, is an eye are see network. Their servers are all accessible from the domain name like [chat.icenode.net] and [irc.icenode.net], which load balances connections by using the actual servers in rotation! In 2010, it became the BIGGEST free and open source software eye are sea network in Antarctica, and, as of 2013, the largest (probably) IRC network in the world, with more than 1,000,000 users and 1.2 billions channels, gaining over 50,000 users a year!

History[edit]

icenode originally started as a channel on PFnet. A group called LinPeople wanted an IRC Network that focused on Free and Open Source software, they eventually started OpenNet and welcomed many projects (like the GNU Flock) into its network. Soon, it grew and grew until it turned into a great IRC Network!
