"Joy" is a single by Antarctican pop group Penguin Band. The song was recorded during March 2016 and was released on June 30, 2016 by Club Penguin Music Records for digital download from iceTunes as the lead summer single from their fourth album Legacy (2016). It is the eighteenth single of the Band's discography. It was written by all four members of the band and was produced by Petey K. "Joy" is an upbeat and uplifting song about feeling good about yourself.

It was released four months after "Greatest Day", the final single off their third album Timeless (2015). It continues the Band's high work rate in putting out songs and albums whenever they feel like it. The label didn't want the Band to release new music as they had just released two albums in a year and were requested to take a break until 2017, however "Joy" came to fruition out of nowhere and Petey K felt like it was "a song for the time". Thus, it was released off schedule. After release, "Joy" was intended to be just be a bonus track instead of the lead single, however its success changed its status.

Background[edit]

Petey K was in the studio and randomly felt in a good mood, which led to him writing feel-good lyrics. The rest of the band then added their own touches to the lyrics and Petey K whipped up a quick beat. The song was then recorded and mastered in no time on March 6, 2016. Petey K wanted to release the song as soon as possible. Many thought the song was not good enough to be a single as it felt like it had no real purpose or a way of tying into an album. Also, the release would signal to the public that a new Penguin Band album was coming, even though this was not planned.

Nevertheless "Joy" was released as a single. At the moment the Band and the label are unsure as to if the song will be the lead single to their next album. It was most likely that its status will be demoted to a mere promotional single and be on no album, or be included as a bonus track. But then the popularity and success of the song became so large that in the end it became the lead single off Legacy.

Oh, joy
Oh, joy

I got a sad heart, but such a time left to go
'Been doing my part, but I've lost what to show
So I'm asking everyone, to show me some pity
It's not good for me, to make as if they're witty.

Chasing that lost feeling, moving on and I couldn't prove
There ain't no life, just working on one petty groove
So I'm asking you to show me some pity
It's not good for me, to make as if you're witty.

I got wishes that keep me from working in the day
Saying that everybody's got their own successful way
There's a light I see, but it's fading away
So I'm asking them to show me some pity
It's not good for me, to make as if they're witty.

Oh, joy
Oh, joy

I've been working all night, maybe you could help me see
The groove isn't going to set me free
So I'm asking you to show me some pity
It's not good for me, to make as if you're witty.

I got wishes that keep me from working in the day
Saying that everybody's got their own sucessful way
There's a light I see, but it's fading away
So I'm asking them to show me some pity
It's not good for me, to make as if they're witty.

Oh, joy
Oh, joy

Sometimes you leave the liked ones forever
But as it's life, would they give up - never
Life may be tough, but there's a light is in the distance
Their lives can be led into a personal resistance
Sometimes it's too much, sometimes I want to give in
But I hear a tune, and that's how I feel I can win.

I got wishes that keep me from working in the day
Saying that everybody's got their own successful way
There's a light I see, but it's fading away
So I'm asking you to show me some pity
It's not good for me, to make as if they're witty.

Oh, joy
Oh, joy
Oh, joy
Oh, joy...
