Mergelin is a small town near the end of Nowhere Pass in Trans-Antarctica. Just outside of Mergelin, the tracks for the Itinerod Postal Circuit split into the western and eastern routes of the city. In fact, the Itinerod Postal Circuit was the reason the town was founded in 2004 by railroad workers from Antarctica and especially from Snowzerland and Alemania, whose cultures now reflect the atmosphere and life of the city.

History[edit]

Mergelin was first settled by railroad workers who helped contribute building the Itinerod Postal Circuit in 2004. Mergelin started out as a camp for these workers. These railroad workers in particular were the ones who built the railroad parts that helped merge the easten tracks with the west. Strangely enough, those who worked in the Mergelin Camp were from various origins, half of them from Mainland Antarctica, and the other half from Alemania and Snowzerland. Many of the Snoss and Alemanians came to work in the railroad to earn more money for their families back in their homeland. However, the work was soon done, and many of the railroad workers who worked there were attatched to the land there, especially for the Snoss and Alemanians. The land that they worked around was very mountainious and was full of forest, which reminded the Snoss and the Alemanians of their homelands. However, some of the Antarcticans were not very happy about living with the Snoss and Alemanians, and vigorous fights emerged. Eventually, the Snoss and Alemanians won, so they drove the Antarcticans out of the area, except for those who were nice to the Snoss and the Alemanians, who were permitted to stay. When that was settled, the new settlers of Mergelin went back to bring their families and friends to Mergelin to start a new life. Many of the Mergelinians were proud of their heritage, so they built the town in the Snoss, Alemanian, Osterrean, and Antarctican styles in one quarter of the town each. To top it off, the German State immigrants agreed with the Antarctic residents to create a ToS Telenacle in the town square, and it still serves the town today. Mergelin also had a train station built, which soon became very busy with the new cargo trains passing by.

Architecture[edit]

Mergelin's architecture is basically similar in three quarters of the city, which is influenced by the German States, while the fourth quarter is influenced by the United States of Antarctica. The German State homes are two stories and the buildings are wood-framed homes that were built from local trees. Their streets are made from locally found cobblestone and the buildings are close together there. If someone was to stand in one of Mergelin's Snoss, Alemanian, or Osterrean Quarter's streets, it would look as if they WERE in one of the German States.

However, the fourth quarter is a classic, yet elegant Antarctican style. Their homes are built out of brick and also tend to be two stories. Their streets are much wider, yet they also use cobblestones found locally just like in the other quarters to continue road consistency.

Places[edit]

Dispite being a relatively small town, Mergelin has several interesting places to visit.

  • Mergelin Station - The town's local train station. It is a cargo station where trains from the Itinerod Postal Circuit come to deliver the mail or to stop to rest at a local hotel for the night. Since it is not to far from the East-West Junction, it is pretty busy.
  • Railroad Worker Statue - The town's main landmark. It is located in the center of the town square, right on top of a fountain. It desplays a tired Railroad Worker holding a hammer in his hand. The statue was built in honor of the railroad workers who helped build the Itinerod Postal Circuit, who also founded the town.
  • ToS Telenacle - since the town has a majority of Snoss, Osterrean, and Alemanian immigrants, many of them were loyal to the ToS. Thus, a ToS telenacle was built to bring electricity to the town of Mergelin. Swiss Ninja was impressed by their loyalty to the country, so he allowed to have some Snoss Architects come help them build it into an elegant building. The ToS telenacle is the tallest building in the town, and is located in the town square.
  • Mergelin "Rathaus" (Town Hall)" - The town hall of Mergelin. It is also found in the town square like the Telenacle. The Town Hall exerts elegant Snoss architecture as well.
  • Caddy's Inn - Located in the Antarctican Quarter, Caddy's Inn was the first Hotel to be built in the town for travellers. It is a very inexpensive but nice hotel with cozy rooms. Free contintental breakfasts are served to guests every day.
  • Mergelin Railworkers Coliseum - Located in the Antarctican Quarter, home of the Mergelin Railers, the Mcdonalds City All-Stars' affiliate for the ADHL (or Antartican Development Hockey League).

Trivia[edit]

  • Dispite being influenced by the German States, they still kept the Antarctican name of Mergelin to be the name of the town since it was the name of the railroad building camp.
  • Mergelin's only official language is English, but German is used for minor things such as street or restaurant names.
