Music in Antarctica is one of the most popular entertainment sources and general field of consumption by penguins. According to latest statistics, 83% of the Antarctic population listen to music in some capacity. Typically, music varies by country but only slightly as the musical market is quite universally similar cross-culturally. Music is divided into genres and subgenres; the popularity of these genres differ by country. It is performed through a vast range of instruments normally paired up with vocal techniques such as singing and rapping. However there are also musical pieces that only feature vocals or only feature instrumental work.
There have only been a selective number of decades that which music has been prevalent in Antarctica. It most especially saw a rise in popularity in the late 2000s with the introduction of formal musical charts and record labels. The most popular musical genres are, of course, pop music, rock and heavy metal, country and hip hop. There are notable artists from each genre that have shaped the music of the genre and led it to mainstream appeal.

Modern music[edit]
Music in the 21st century saw a revitilisation in relation to its structure, professionalism and output. As technology was on the rise, musical consumption switched to the Internet forms such as downloads. The most popular artists of modern music include Cadence, DJ Crow, Penguin Band, Meaghan, Rockhopper, Nyninyne, Awesomesauce, Greasy Spoon, Nebulent, Joe-Q, Omar Grest, Lucy Verghanta, Tim and Tom, Blake and Katy Spitz.
In the early 2000s, mainstream rapper Nyninyne was very popular regardless of genre, putting out albums such as The Harrison Harolds LP (2000), The Nyninyne Show (2002) and Ovation (2004). Around the same young a very young DJ Crow was creating underground buzz with his debut mixtape The Endless Vacivity (2003) and releasing singles as part of Uprising with Joe-Q. Crow released his debut album Crow - The Hard Times (2007) to rave reception. Two years later he mentored local Night Club dancer Cadence into a superstar with the release of her debut album Cadence: The Beginning (2009). The album was commercially successful and Cadence became the new pop icon of modern music in Antarctica. Beside Cadence, pirate Rockhopper was a surprise success in music with his pirate-styled jingles. In 2011, he put out Rockhopper's Ballads, a double-disc album featuring some of the most prominent artists of the time. It was a success and led to the release of two more albums: The Journal of Captain Rockhopper (2012) and Last Ship to Rockhopper Island (2015), including an EP titled Captain's Quarter's (2012).
2009 was a very prominent year for music, seeing numerous big releases. Most notably was the one-hit wonder song "This Wiki's Not the Same Without You" by the obscure, anonymous band Greasy Spoon. The single went on to become the best-selling single of all time, selling over 20 million copies across the continent. Despite the band not being particularly successful, this song is considered an extreme classic of modern music, and is also many penguin's favourite song.
The most popular musical act regardless of genre and solo work is Penguin Band. The Band were releasing singles since 2007 but only released their debut album three years after, The Four Penguins (2010). It was an incredible success, setting numerous musical records. Their debut single "History" is the second best-selling single of Antarctica. They followed this up four years later with Cosmic (2014), which is considered their best work. In 2015 they released Q and Timeless, followed by their fourth album Legacy in late 2016.

UnitedTerra[edit]
Music creation and consumption is extremely popular in UnitedTerra. According to a public survey, 9 out of 10 penguins of UnitedTerra listen to music in a regular basis. Because of this, the nation is very famous for being pioneers in numerous genres, most notably hip hop, Terrain grime and R&B. The most popular genre of music in UTR is rap-related. Dozens of internationally acclaimed and successful artists originated from UnitedTerra, such as DJ Crow, Nebulent, Nyninyne and Omar Grest, including producers such as Yusei, DJ Crab and TrillBron. Terrain music dates back to the later 90s, and Terrain grime as early as 2001, a genre which is exclusive to UnitedTerra. It is also known as "underground music". Many grime artists are unsigned and haven't charted much, but are still very well known. This is expressed through WaddleTube comments on which artists post their videos. Other Antarctican music have always connected with Terrain music, such as Cadence and Nyninyne. Many artists migrated from UnitedTerra to Club Penguin to pursue a music career (more specifically to make a name in the Night Club).
The most successful artist to originate from UnitedTerra is DJ Crow, a rapper, producer and songwriter, who is one of the most sought-after artists in Antarctica. He was particularly responsible for bridging the gap between Terrain music and Antarctican music by working with Joe-Q and eventually mentoring the most successful female solo singer of Antarctica, Cadence. His music does relatively well in overseas charts, reaching the Top 10 in the USA regularly.
