Prolouge[edit]
Paige and Pepper Looseleaf were two siblings born in 2016, the offsprings of an unknown couple. Paige, the girl, had great academic knowledge, being able to memorize the most trivial of topics. Pepper, the boy, was not as organized as her, but had an excellent taste. They left their home country of Foolscap to live in South Pole City, USA. While it was constantly being destroyed due to "Specials", Paige and Pepper lived a relatively calm chickhood. They were successful throughout their academic life and were able to apply to the University of South Pole City.
Only Paige made it in.
Pepper, jealous of the success of his sister, moved to Francterre and jumped from job to job, eventually ending up as a cook in the elusive restaurant "Le Culinary Cruise", acting as the apprentice of the soon-to-retire head chef. He became famous for his delicacies and (luckily) did not gain a criminal record of any sort.
Paige eventually graduated with a Master's Degree in Animal Sciences. She was hired to study the fauna of Antarctica, yet she did not major discoveries. While she was held in high regard she felt like her life was incomplete. While she had a high IQ, she always longed the silly adventures she and her brother used to have. But she got over it.
Years passed and they already forgot about the existence of each other. But that all would change in the next year.
Foolscap, 2048
Foolscap had developed over the years to a country of great significance, not only because of its endless supply of puns. Its strange microclimates allowed it to develop quickly with the exporting industry. Valuable materials were being harvested from there and everyone wanted a piece of it. Various industries found ways to insert themselves into Craft Penguin, which kept expanding constantly. And, as luck had it, two particular industries sent two particular employees to this country.
Penguin 1: Mr. Looseleaf, I have a... favor to ask you.
Pepper: What is it, sir?
Penguin 1: As you may be well aware, Foolscap has been a big factor in the economy of Antarctica for a couple of years now.
Pepper: Yes, sir.
Penguin 1: As such, I want to open new restaurant there. Make our chain bigger. You know what I mean?
Pepper: Yes, sir. Although, we only have one restaurant right now...
Penguin 1: Exactly. That's why I want you to be the head chef for this new restaurant. You can benefit yourself from the fresh ingredients you can find there! Just imagine the possibilities!
Pepper: I understand.
Penguin 1: BTW, I'm not paying for your trip :3.
Pepper: D'oh!
Dr. Penguin II: Ms. Looseleaf, could I have a word with you?
Paige: What is it, Dr. Penguin II?
Dr. Penguin II: I have a special assignment for you. I'm sure you know of the Paper Wild Puffles?
Paige: Not very much, unfortunately.
Dr. Penguin II: Exactly. Nobody really knows much about this crazy puffle species. That's why I am asking YOU to study them.
Paige: Me?!
Dr. Penguin II: Of course. You are one of our most skilled (and available) employees.
Paige: A-alright. I understand.
Dr. Penguin II: BTW, I'm not paying for your trip :3.
Paige: D'oh!
And so, Paige and Pepper met again. I will not describe how it went, but here's a small extract:
Paige: Excuse me, sir? Do you know where the...
Both: WAH! IT'S YOU!
Chapter 1: Mysterious Hole[edit]
Pepper: So, how has your life been?
Paige: It was... alright, I suppose.
Paige and Pepper walked around the vaguely nostalgic street in Papyrus Plains that they used to call "home" before they left.
Paige: Ah, so nice to be here again. Everything looks just like before! Just that with strangers.
Pepper: Well, everything but that hole over there.
Pepper pointed to a strange hole that lead underground. While Foolscap was a country of diverse raw materials, it was confirmed to not have any oil under its surface, so the underground wasn't really explored that much.
Paige: Huh. How strange. Well, let's just keep going. We both have our own jobs to d-
The conversation was abruptly interrupted by the sound of ominous laughter coming from the hole.. It was actually more annoying than ominous. It was like if it was mocking them.
Pepper: Ah. That's also new. Anyways, you're right. We should get going...
Paige: NO. I've been waiting for a fun moment like this for the past 10 years.
Pepper: Uh... alright.
The hole had wooden steps leading all the way down. Someone, or something, must have built them. Who could it be inside the cave?
They went deeper and deeper down the hole, waddling step by step down the barely lit, creaking stairway.
Pepper: Maybe we should head back.
Paige: Are you kidding me? We got this far, we're not going to just give up.
Pepper: Woah. I've never seen you this determined.
Paige: Well, what do you expect from someone who had to live a monotonous working life up until now?
Pepper: How ungrateful.
Paige: Huh?
Pepper: You get an above average salary, benefits and all of that crap. I work hard as a chef and the only true benefit I've gotten was a day ago. And the benefit was essentially to work harder.
Paige: Oh, I didn't know that you were working as a ch-
Paige was cut off again by the sound of her falling foward. She had reached the bottom of the stairs.
Paige: Ow.
Pepper: Are you alrigh- OH WOW THAT IS STRANGE.
Pepper and Paige noticed a large, strange machine, seemingly inactive for quite some time, deep beneath the earth. It was lit by a soft light from an unknown source.
Paige: What is that thing?!
Robed Penguin: Who are you two and how did you get here?
Paige and Pepper were surprised by a third, robed penguin who was inside this undergound hideout. Its voice indicated that whoever it was, it was female.
Pepper: Excuse us. We didn't want to intrude.
Robed Penguin: Oh it's alright. Nothing really happens down here.
Paige: Who are you?
Robed Penguin: Oh, don't worry. I'll reveal it next chapter.
Pepper: What?
Robed Penguin: Oh, you're not "Breakers"?
Paige: I don't think either of us is.
Chapter 2: Mysterious Robed Penguin[edit]
Robed Penguin: Welp, here it goes.
Taking the hood of the robe off, she revealed an unnaturally natural light brown hair.
Paige: Hey, nice wig! Where did you get it? I want one like that.
Robed Penguin: There's no wig.
Paige: ...But mammals are the only kind of animals able to grow hair...
They gasped.
Pepper: Are you actually a donkey?!
Robed Penguin: What? No. I guess I'll have to explain.
(This scene is narrated by the robed penguin)
When I was younger, my father used to be a scientist. His aim was to make the world "perfect for all of us", as he would always put it. Their products were barely successfuland mostly failed. However, it all changed when they created that machine back there.
It's name?
"World Editor"
It works by... actually, I'm not even sure. But what it did was certain. It could change the climate, altitude, ecosystem, biome, etc. of an existing piece of land, or section of it. No matter how impossible it would be, it could do it. But such power would be feared among my folk, at least that's what father predicted.
