Penguin Academy is a Charter boarding school built under the order of Happyface. It aims to offer learning and qualifications of creatures of different schools. Anyone who lives in the catchment area of the school may legally attend. Those outside must attend the boarding facilites. Boarder applications are selective and creatures will have to pass English and Mathematics tests or pass a subject scholarship.

Penguin Academy is part of National Schools of Antarctica, consisting of other schools such as Club Penguin Academy, Antarctic Academy and Antarctica University Preparatory School, which are the 'top schools of Antarctica', consisting of state-funded, charter or independent alike. Penguin Academy is ranked third with Antarctic Academy first and Antarctica University Preparatory School second.

The school is controversial. Some consider the subjects to 'not useful for the big world'. Penguin Academy and supporters claim 'it lets students find their true talent'. Results of students going there have been positive; over 95% of students move onto an insitution of further education, mainly Penguin State University, with 80% of that 95% going there. The two insitutions of educations have a close link with priorities for Penguin Academy students. Many scholarships go to Penguin Academy students. Also, this broadened, flexible curriculum has seen many great students progress to great achievements.

Background

The school was ordered to be constructed in 2001 by Happyface141 as a charter alternative boarding/day school to provide education for some of the poorest chicks in the Kingdom of Happyface141 and to provide opportunities for them. When it was opened in 2004, students Antarctic-wide flocked to enroll. The school had students of all background; rich and poor, Adelie and High etc. This was because of its diverse array of paths and subjects to go. Like many Antarctician schools, it was K-12, which caused some controversy.

In 2005 94% of the older students moved onto an institution of further education. This gained the attention of the National Schools of Antarctica, who considered it to join. It was officially inducted in 2006, despite the Kingdom of Happyface141 not being in the USA and in four years, rise up to be the third best school. Due to their NSA membership, they recieved extra funds from several organisations, from the state to private organisations. In 2007, they announced an official partnership with Penguin State University. In 2010, when the Kingdom of Happyface141 merged into the USA and became the Happyface State, the curriculum drastically changed to suit the Alseef curriculum.

Currently, they're working on adding a community college and making the school K-14. By 2013 the college will have priority for Penguin Academy students. Another possible idea is adding a liberal arts college. This is still being decided.

Curriculum

The curriculum is heavily flexible with students able to choose. Subjects are added in what would be considered elementary and junior high school.

Kindergarten

In Kindergarten all subjects except mathematics are compulsory.

Elementary

Subjects are added in the 'Elementary phase'. Subjects are added in Grade 1. Students are free to choose their time table to do these subjects. English is compulsory. Core Science I is compulsory is as well unless as student chooses to do all three other science subjects.

Junior High School

In the Junior High School (Grade 7) phase further subjects are added. English remains compulsory and Science must still be taken as a standalone. The most notable edition is the social science and the career training category.
