The Aquarius Libertarian Party, also known as the Libertarian Party or the Libertarians, is the dominant party in Aquarius and the main opposition party in other Trans-Antarctic cities. Found in 1911 by Baron Aquarius, they protested against the increasingly Statist, High Penguin government, it has become the second largest party in Trans-Antarctica and the largest third party. Attracting voters of all classes, the Libertarians have pushed for more market freedoms while advocating a limited welfare state and increased civil liberties.
Their main rival is the Polaris Democratic Party, which currently holds majorities in the other major cities in Trans-Antarctica, although the Libertarians are quickly catching up. With significant minority seats in other states, they are increasing in size, due to their support for both the corporations and the miners. They were one of the first parties to push for a social security net, along with introduction of universal health care in Aquarius, strict immigration policies and the introduction of free schools. However they also strongly support limited regulations for businesses, pro-privatization policies and have limited the power of trade unions. Some believe that because of this, they are a third way party, however they are not; their ideologies could easily be comparable with the libertarian wing in the P-Democrats.
