Robert Smith is the former president and also king of Snowiny, who served from 2011 to July 31, 2015. His reign and presidency both ended in late July 2015 in a revolution which created the United Provinces and instated Simon McClark as president of the new republic.
Robert Smith hatched on December 18, 1970, in Penguin Town, present day Club Penguin. By the time he hatched, his family had lived in Penguin Town for only a few weeks. Much of his early life was uneventful, he just followed whatever his brother did.
Eventually, when he was old enough, he moved to Snowiny, a country that was recovering from the devastating Snowinn Civil War. Through the years, he rose up ranks in government, before being elected president in 2011 by a really tight margin of 48.34% to 48.32% against Jacob Goldberg. In 2014, he declared himself as king, becoming both President and King. Many were shocked by this, but he had the backing of his brother in Acadia, who was president at the time.
Throughout Robert's presidency and kingship, Snowiny was involved in many different wars, with the most devastating being the Antarctic War on Terrorism, in which countless lives were lost. He also founded the Western Union, a political organization that consisted of Snowiny, Margate, Terra Federation, Amataria, Acadia, and Caseusopolis.
By July 2015, many penguins became tired of Robert Smith's rule. In a bloodless revolution, Robert was ousted and a republic, called the United Provinces, was restored.
He is still a very prominent politician. There are still calls to restore the kingdom in Snowiny, with supporters saying that Smith brought an era of prosperity to Snowiny. Smith remained a prominent critic of the UP government, and at times of crisis his support often rose, such as during the January Crisis, during which Smith's popularity skyrocketed and McClark's plummeted.
On 26 May 2018, Robert Smith was charged for war crimes, criminal negligence, bribery and corruption. This immediately sparked a reaction worldwide - across the world anti-Smith protests took place, the biggest of which were in Macradonia, Bow Tieland and Acadia, the latter one being deadly.
Robert Smith's criminal trial took place on 3 November 2018 in Winsburg. Among the people present in Winsburg during the trial was Robert's brother Dominic who was infuriated by Robert Smith's trial. President McClark in a press conference that day said that Dominic Smith showed up the United Provinces "completely uninvited" and promised that Robert Smith would be brought to the justice he has been awaiting for a long time. President McClark was heckled during the press conference and he promised that 'he would not be silenced by his opponents'. Major protests took place outside the Winsburg Courthouse, and two marches were held in the city, one calling for Robert Smith to be pardoned and the other calling for Robert Smith to be brought to justice.
Foreign governments have not commented much on the trial. Ed Island's Hierarch EDFan12345 issued a statement saying that arresting Robert Smith would help to normalize relations between the United Provinces and Ed Island. President Brant Esser of Acadia condemned Robert Smith's arrest, calling it an 'international travesty'. Shopper president Lavender refused to comment upon being confronted by reporters.
