Sigurd and Bacchus is the short true story of the true history of the two founding fathers of the regular penguin races. The events took place prior to Year Zero, which was when the HIGH PENGUINS settled Antarctica. Note that Sigurd and Bacchus were both High Penguins themselves, who are immortal and still live today; Bacchus lives silently in his palace in Foccasia, Snowprus, still ruling, while Sigurd hides himself from the rest of the world in the ancient city of Asgard, which is hidden in the Trans Antarctic mountains, long forgotten. The story transitions into later times, and this page is basically the whole history of Antarctica in a nutshell.
Sigurd and Bacchus were brothers who both hail from the ancient High Penguin land of Valnor. Their father was Cronodinus, a chief of one of the Valn'rii tribes there, and their mother was Herafrigga. Sigurd and Bacchus were both fraternal twins, but they were very different from the other High Penguins. Both of the boys enjoyed seafaring, and Bacchus enjoyed wearing tunics out of sheets instead of the typical sackcloth made of cotton. When the two penguins got older, they built their own ship, which was mainly Sigurd's idea. This ship became the first Viking Longship, and it was approximately 600 cubits long and 200 cubits wide. The two penguins wanted to know what was beyond their known islands, and it made their parents proud. Thus, before they left, Sigurd got married to one girl and Bacchus married seven who all were mutated High Penguins who were shorter than usual. After marriage, they embarked together alone, with only one unmarried sailor with them- their orphaned nephew named Hephaestus, who would become a great blacksmith and already loved fire. Together, they sailed down south into the unknown. First, they discovered the Falkland Islands, the homeland of the puffles. Sigurd and Bacchus made peace with the puffles, and had about 20 pairs of them accompany them on their journey. These twenty puffles, who were from all the known colors of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, white, black and brown, eventually would eventually populate Antarctica, the Ninja Archipelago, Rockhopper Island, the Yowien Sea islands, the Puffepelago and UnitedTerra. Meanwhile, the ship set sail south again and came across the island of Snowprus in 2000 BC. Bacchus liked the island, and decided to settle there, and he went inland to a place with a small, bubbling river and built the city of Foccasia there. With his seven wives, Bacchus had several mutated children - the first Normal, Emperor, King, Chinstrap, Magellanic, Macaroni, and Kanta Penguins. Sigurd and his wife gave birth to the first Viking Penguin, named Argo. Strangely enough one day, a high penguin's egg washed up on the shores of Snowprus, and Bacchus and his wife found it as it washed up from the foam of the sea. The egg hatched, and Bacchus and his wife decided to adopt and care for the child, who was a girl named Aphrodite, who would later marry Bacchus's nephew, Hephaestus. Half of the puffles, mainly the yellow, brown, blue, and red breeds, began to rapidly reproduce on the island.
Discovery of the Antarctic Mainland
Meanwhile, as Bacchus was settling down and building his immense palace, Sigurd missed the sea and wished to find a homeland of his own, much to Argo's disapproval. Thus, Sigurd and his wife went alone with half of 20 pairs of puffles that came with them to Snowprus. Thus, Sigurd left Argo behind and Sigurd and his Wife continued south and reached the land that is now the city of Frostize, but back then, it was nothing but the simple river delta of the Lorraine River. Sigurd immediately knew that this was a much larger land than Snowprus, and he called the land Anta Tirka after his wife's first and maiden name. He also knew that one day, his descendants would make their capital where he had landed. It was here that the puffles that were on the ship abandoned Sigurd and his wife, carrying seed encased O-berries from the Falkland Islands and dispersed across the continent. All the puffles left except for the blue and yellow, who stayed loyal and true to Sigurd and Anta. Dissatisfied with where they settled, Sigurd, Anta, the yellow and the blue puffles sailed down the Lorraine River and ended up in the Trans Antarctic Mountains since the Hochstadt Canyon did NOT exist yet. The ship eventually ended up in a Lake deep in the Trans Antarctic, and there they settled on it's banks. There, Sigurd founded the city of Asgard, the first city on the Antarctic Mainland. However, at first, they only built a decent size longhouse for themselves out of the trees of the forest and patches of snow to secure the wood in place. It became the main living quarters for Sigurd, and everyone, including the blue and yellow puffles, slept in this single roomed abode. Eventually, Anta gave birth to mutated twins: Signy and Bulgan. Signy was born the first normal Viking Penguin and later the father of the other sub-groups (while Argo was the first Hellenistic Viking Penguin, who settled all of Snowprus and later the Geek Empire) and Bulgan was Antarctica's first Khanz Penguin. Later, the couple gave birth to Remus, the first Little penguin, and then gave birth to Staven, the first Fjordland Penguin. Each child was born one year apart from each other, except for Signy and Bulgan, since they were twins. Because they were the oldest, Signy and Bulgan were also very competitive and both of them grew a strong animosity towards each other over the years.
Populating the Mainland
When they were 18, Sigurd told the twins to build their own longships and sail to Snowprus so that they could find a bride to marry. Bacchus welcomed his other nephews from Sigurd with vigor, and encouraged them to marry whoever they liked. Signy chose Helka, the daughter of Argo, who was also a Viking Penguin like him. However, Bulgan married a maiden named Erdinet, a grand daughter of the first chinstrap penguin. Strangely enough, Erdinet's family wished to come with Bulgan to Asgard, and he agreed to do so. Meanwhile, several Emperor and King penguins joined Signy and Helka on their ship since they wanted to populate this new "island" too. Thus, Sigurd and Anta were very surprised to find their sons bringing back several families of other penguins. Nevertheless, Sigurd wasn't happy, and sent off everyone, including Erdinet's family, away from Asgard. The expelled families eventually populated and made their own cities in what is now Eastshield. Eventually, Signy had twenty five children, and Bulgan had twenty children. However, the conflicts between the two families increased, which caused Remus to leave and he later mingled with the expelled penguins in what is now Eastshield. Eventually, violence occured and Bulgan murdered one of Signy's children, a girl named Traksa. Angry and disappointed, Sigurd banished his son and his family from Asgard forever, and Bulgan swore to Signy that he would get revenge on him one day. Bulgan and his family settled in the Pengolia region, which back then, was very, very hospitable with lots of plains and made great farmland. Bulgan called himself a Khan, his way of being called "King", and his children were eventually called Khanz after their father. Signy and his family stayed in Asgard, and because of his terrible loss, Signy had ten more children before his wife died. All of Signy's children were Viking Penguins as all of Bulgan's children were Khanz. In about 50 years, Asgard transformed from a one long house to a large village, then a small town, and then a decent sized city. By the time Asgard became a city, Signy's descendants spread across the regions of Trans Antarctica, the Antarctic Peninsula, the modern day Regiao Lisboaguesa, most of modern Freezeland, and small parts of modern day Eastshield and the Happyface State. Several of the other species also intermingled with the Viking Tribes, and lived among them in separate villages. Eventually, Asgard became the capital of the County Asgard, and it was ruled by Sigurd himself, since he was immortal like his brother, Bacchus. Nevertheless, his wife and children were not immortal and died out a while ago. Asgard Country occupied what is now the Antarctic Peninsula, the Viking Republic, half of Freezeland and Trans Antarctica, and although the borders and land size changed dramatically over the years, the country existed until the rise of the Viking Empire. Meanwhile, Snowprus conquered Antarctica that contained what is now Eastshield, the other half of Freezeland, and the Happyface State. The Pengolia Region stayed independent and was known as the Land of the Khanz. Nevertheless, the secret of Antarctica's existance did not stay secret for long, for later some of Bacchus's descendants were able to reach Valnor again and spread the rumor.
Approximately 1000 BC, the other High Penguins from Valnor discovered and occupied Antarctica in what is now modern Freezeland, and drove the Snowprusian and Vikings away from the land. However, the High Penguin's occupation of modern Freezeland caused uproar and anger among the Snowprusians and Vikings, and the Snowprusians and Vikings began to band together to fight the High Penguins because of their anger. Although allies at first, the Snowprusians eventually turned their backs on the Vikings, who also began fighting back. Later, the Khanz joined the fight and started battling the Vikings and the High Penguins also. In the Latter Years of the Year Zero period, the High Penguins conquered all of Antarctica, and started The Great Resistance War of Sigurd and Bacchus. It was a great period of unrest and war that lasted for a whole century, until the Land of Lord Guin rose to power.
The Land of Lord Guin formed in a city that would probably be near modern Ciudad Vieja, and conquered almost all of Antarctica, including the High Penguin, Khanz, Snowprusians, and most of the Viking lands. The only land they did not take was the valley of Asgard, where the capital city lay and they swore not to touch, because the High Penguins failed to capture it due to a terrible snow storm, although the Guinians did consider Asgard as part of their country.
Eventually, in 500 BC, the Land of Lord Guin lands of Antarctica lay waste from constant High Penguin, Viking, and Khanz raids and rebellions from the Jerdi puffles, and the Babbelonian Empire formed in the Eastern part of Easthshield and conquered the High Penguins for good, enslaving them and finally bringing peace to Antarctica. Meanwhile, the Snowprusians were able to reclaim some land back, but not much. The Khanz got half land back and the Vikings got all of their land back, and both groups continued hating each other but no longer fought. Nevertheless, the Snowprusians and the Babbelonian Empire developed an animosity, and started fighting each other after a feud, until the Snowprusians defeated the Babbelonians in 100 BC, and siezed all of their land except for the occupied area of the Khanz. The Snowprusians ruled the conquered land for about two years before the Penguin Empire began.
The Penguin Empire was established in 102 BC in the city what would later be modern South Pole City. The citizens there developed the language of Latin, which somewhat derived from Bacchus's language of Greek. Over a period of 20 years, the Penguin Empire swiftly overtook the Snowprusian occupied lands and completely conquered the land of Asgard, which finally sought it's end. The city was never touched and was long forgotten but the Vikings surrendered and retreated to the Antarctic Peninsula, where they soon formed the Peninsulan Slavens. The High Penguin remants who were not enslaved formed tribes and kept a portion of Freezeland under their control, and the Khanz did the same with their land. The Penguin Empire also completely conquered Snowprus, as well as Liguria, Castilla, Frankterre, Lisboagal, and half of the UK. The Penguin empire established total peace until the Khanz, Vikings, and High Penguins decided to invade it, and the Penguin Empire ended in 450 AD.
Frozantium Empire and Damelaw
Once the Penguin Empire fell in 450 AD, total chaos struck through the continent as the three barbarian groups invaded the continent and raided towns. Bacchus attempted to reconquer Antarctica again, but his generals betrayed him and made the newly conquered lands of the Snowprusians into the Frozantium Empire, and the top General turned Penguin City into the city of Frozantium and the land became known as the Frozantium Empire, and attempted to be a replacement of the Penguin Empire but it only declined more as more High Penguins began raiding lands. Meanwhile, the last Slav'en King's nephew created the land of Damelaw in what is now the Antarctic Peninsula, and created the Wall of Damelaw to prevent the High Penguins and Frozantium knights from invading. Eventually, the coalition forces of Khanz and High Penguins ransacked Frozantium city and burnt it to the ground.
Eventually, the High Penguin Confederacy formed as the High Penguins began to rapidly populate the continent, and eventually, Damelaw's citizens were displeased with their ruler, so they ousted him and joined the confederacy, permanently ending a Viking nation for the next 1000 years. The Confederacy brought peace among all penguin types and everything was well for many centuries. For about 400 years after the HPC started, Pengolia and about 12 other small kingdoms existed before they were either conquered by the HPC or ceded into it. The only regions to stay out of HPC control were the Ninja Archipelago, Asiapelago, city of Winsburg (it was possesed by The Oslovens), The Emiropol Empire (now the city of Wizzint in Shops) and the sparsely populated Yowien Sea. The Ninja Archipelago's most powerful nations became rivals against the HPC starting in the late 1400's, when Lisboagal established a maritime army and trading posts in distant lands to dominate trade. However, Lisboagal was eventually overshadowed when Castilla established a maritime army and large exploration groups to discover and conquer new lands in order to expand territory. Quickly and powerfully, Osloven Empire, Puffle'and, Batavia, and Frankterre also joined the race by conquering more island colonies.
