Snowy Mayfield, also known as Miss Snowy or Snowy, (b. 8th August 1997) is a prominent lawyer in the UnitedTerra. The founder of the law firm Barristers for Equality, she is renowned in the nation for being an advocate for female's rights and puffles' rights. Aside from these, she has also fought and won numerous civil and criminal cases that are considered to be particularly difficult. She's currently the Purple Party's nominee for President in the 2016 UnitedTerra presidential election.

Background

Early Life

Hatched in a New Club Penguin hospital during the days of PreTerra in 8th August 1997 to a couple of young adults, Snowy, a second chick, was raised in Wellhedge, Flipscone during the first two years of her life as her parents were actually from that place. However, due to the dire conditions of the nation which eventually led to its destruction, the small family moved to Torona, Calada. They moved back in 2003 to their hometown as her parents wanted to lend a hand in rebuilding the nation.

Wellhedge was soon a prosperous city once more. Her father became involved in the city's politics as a city councilor, while her mom was an accountant. Snowy herself was an intelligent albeit sometimes lazy student who was smart enough to jump grades. By 2008, she had already graduated from secondary-level Academy. She then enrolled in the University of Wellhedge to earn an undergraduate degree in law after deciding that she would be a lawyer. Snowy took her Bar exams in 2011 and officially became a qualified barrister the same year.

Law Career

Initially working in her father's own law firm, she was soon assigned to a case where a speech-capable puffle sued his employer for failing to prevent his colleagues from bullying and harassing him at work. Unexpectedly, she won the case, forcing legislators in the UnitedTerra Parliament to create a new bill to guarantee puffles' rights and equality in the workplace. The case made her popular in the barrister scene overnight. More victims, such as females, other creatures and ethnic minorities, sought her service to defend their rights. Eventually, she had to handle so many cases that she founded her own law firm, the currently famous Lawyers for Equality, to deal with them.

Despite initially focusing on cases regarding equality, she decided to try her flipper in other civil and criminal cases, a decision which attracted more customers to Lawyers for Equality. To date, the firm has branches in Wellhedge, New Club Penguin, Satellite City, Neo Domino City and Riffleton, Magonia, with 250 practicing lawyers.

Political Career

Around 2014, her attention switched to politics. She started helping out in the election campaigns of politicians she supported. In 2015, she was elected as the Lower Tower representative of her hometown in the UnitedTerra Parliament after the incumbent resigned, citing health concerns as the reason.

With the 2016 UnitedTerra presidential election approaching, Snowy decided to run in it. In the election, she was placed last with only 9.6% of total votes due to her inexperience, although being able to secure so much votes in a populous country is a rather good achievement for a newbie in politics.

Personality

Snowy is considered by many to be an extrovert, but others to be a shy introvert. In reality, she could be shy and gentle in front of strangers, but since others automatically start conversations with her because of her attractive looks and her achievements, she rarely showed her shyness. In the circle of close friends, she can show very tomboyish tendencies. Snowy also never backs down from a fight due to her fiery temper, but deep down inside her heart, everyone knows that she's one of the kindest penguins they'll ever meet.

According to statements made by her during her presidential campaign, political pundits have branded her as centre-right.

Environment

Snowy has repeatedly stated that stricter regulations must be enacted on the disposal of industrial waste. She has also called for the gradual decrease of the country's reliance on limited and polluting energy sources such as oil or hydroelectricity, as well as tighter regulations on the mining industries such as tritium mining.

Education

Despite not being a scientist herself, Snowy believes that students should be encouraged to enter the Science stream, since many who wanted to do so ended up being disinterested in the subject because they found the courses and textbooks to be boring upon entering secondary school. In her opinion, teachers should use more interesting methods to teach students to increase their willingness to learn since not everyone is smart enough to catch on to concepts that are harder to understand, especially for subjects such as economics, chemistry and physics. She also stated that if she became President, she would provide greater college loan relief for students who major in science-related subjects such as bioengineering and medicine.

Healthcare

Snowy believes that to improve the nation's healthcare system, it's medical technological level must be constantly upgraded and increased so that costs can be lowered for all medical patients. She also believes in a universal healthcare system.

Defense

Snowy believes that the nation must maintain it's current military strength, improving against other rivals if necessary. This is to ensure that it will be able to defend itself, it's allies in the Zeta Connections and those unable to defend themselves when the time comes. Because of that, Snowy believes that the military should concentrate more on defensive strategies instead of offensive strategies, although she doesn't rule out launching a counteroffensive to end a particularly bad situation. She also thinks that each and every citizen must receive compulsory military training for 3 to 5 months in order to ensure that everyone would be able to defend themselves in case there is an invasion.

Foreign Policy

Snowy prefers a foreign policy where UnitedTerra acts as a 'sleeping dragon' in the international scene, quiet during ordinary times and showing everyone what it's capable of when provoked. She stated many times that she isn't afraid of standing up against UTR's own allies if they get too cocky for their own good. Aside from that, she also thinks that the UTR should provide aid in any way to nations struck by natural disasters that are catastrophic in damage.

Economic Policy

Overall, Snowy believes that UnitedTerra should adopt a 'fairer' capitalist economic system that provide greater social justice and social equity. In addition, she believes that UnitedTerra's economic foundation should be based on its huge local market instead of the overseas, as the Daureo's high value makes Terrain exports unattractive to foreign businesses. Because of that, she states that if she becomes President, she will promote and encourage the growth of locally-based businesses and industries, in order to increase the nation's economic self-reliance. In her opinion, only excess supply should be exported and sold overseas. In times of economic disasters, this would reduce the nation's damage as products of the businesses will be able to sustain the population, who won't suffer from shortages and price hikes. Her economic policies also focus on increasing the living standards and purchasing power of the nation's population.

In order to do so, she proposed the creation of several companies in sectors that are overly reliant on foreign corporations, to be initially run and managed by the government via sovereign wealth funds. Foreign specialists (after passing background checks) in these fields will be employed to manage and train local workers on their relatively advanced techniques and skills. After they reach a certain level of growth, the government will slowly transfer the management of these booming companies to the first generation of workers, and eventually the ownership of the companies. She also proposed the setting up of several 'Government-Endorsed Industrial Zones' (G.E.I.Z.) in places that are in need of development, where entrepreneurs can set up pollution-free factories (partially sponsored by the government, depending on how polluting the process of manufacturing can be) with a (compulsory) unionized workforce in exchange for lower utility bills, government recommendation to the unemployed seeking for work (see Welfare below), and lower tax rate.

Snowy also believes that the government should take measures in order to protect the local Terrain economy such as subsidizing the research and development (R&D) expenses of local companies, restricting local companies from outsourcing jobs overseas and hiring too much immigrants (unless deemed necessary), and imposing tariffs on foreign goods. She believes that only through such protectionist measures can a higher degree of egalitarianism be achieved in the nation. As this would make the Terrains both the main consumers and labor force of the businesses, they would be more incentivized to invest in local infrastructure, thus increasing local living standards. Aside from that, Snowy believes that protectionist policies at the moment would allow UnitedTerra to grow into an industrial giant in the future.

Government

Overall, Snowy believes that the government should be more efficient and run more like a corporation (once again an idea indoctrinated by Slender). She states that employees who don't contribute must be sacked as they are a burden. Besides that, she also believes that government power should be centralized so that decisions can be easily made.

Welfare

Snowy believes that the nation's welfare system should be replaced by a 'workfare' system where those who are receiving benefits from the state must pay back some form of contributions in return. Orphans, for example, who are raised in government-run foster homes and educated in the government's schools, will have to work for one of the government's newly set-up 'infant industries' for a certain amount of time (with all the benefits that other employees enjoy except for switching jobs) in exchange. With the exception of those who are inform to work at all, every other benefit received should contribute to society. If an electrician was recently fired from his work and he applied for unemployed benefits, the government would find a job for him in the proposed G.E.I.Z. or an 'infant company'. Even if he's living somewhere far from the GEIZ, he would be relocated to the GEIZ where he would be provided with accommodation.

Interests

Snowy takes up several sports as hobbies, such as martial arts (judo and taekwondo), parkour and cycling. During her schooldays, she has won several city-wide champsionship in taekwondo and parkour. However, because of her schedule, she rarely does all four sports within a month. Despite that, she still visits the gym every week to keep herself fit.

Appearance

Snowy could be described by many as a beauty. She has jet-black eyes that are quite large in size, long and straight platinum blonde hair, as well arctic white feathers. She also has very slim figures, and an even slimmer waist. In terms of outfit, she's more on the casual side, although her clothes are often branded and expensive because she can afford them.
