The South Pole City Politicians is an association football team that plays in in Antarctic Premier League. They were the first team inducted into the APL.
SPC has won the most titles in the APL, tied with Hashville Hashtags FC, with four titles to their name.
History[edit]
The team was founded in 1999, when the South Pole Council heard about the APL being formed. The South Pole Council appointed Mark Kuhl, a youth team coach, as the manager of the new team. Kuhl immediately began constructing his team, consisting of some of his former players, and experienced players. He held tryouts for his new team, as well as buying players from Liga de Futbol teams. A new stadium, named after the presiding speaker of the council, Judge Xavier.
In their first team of playing professionally, they lost to experienced club Shiverpool FC in the semifinals of the cup. However, they were first place in the league table.
In 2000, SPC won their first title, and established themselves as the best team in the APL. In the 2001 season, SPC went on a 10 game unbeaten streak, and went on to win their second title, becoming the leading football club in Antarctica.
After the final of the 2001 season, SPC signed midfielder Casanova10, a player from Club Penguin, who is from Castillian descent. He is hailed for having amazing dribbling skills, and quickly became team captain. He mainly plays as an attacking midfielder while at SPC.
In the 2002 season, SPC once again made it to the finals, but lost to Hashville Hashtags FC in an epic battle. SPC led the game by 3 goals, but Hashville scored 3 goals in the 7 minutes of extra time. During overtime, Hashville won by scoring in the 119th minute.
They didn't reach the final again until 2004, when SPC won 4-0 against Polaris Comets.
In 2010, SPC was at their best, when they stopped the unstoppable Hashville team, and won their 4th title.
Youth and Academy[edit]
The Politicians have an outstanding youth team, which produces many of their key players. In 2002, the Politicians signed 20 year old Antarctican midfielder Ardiaz17 with a senior contract. Since then, they have signed 3 other youth players, two defenders, and one goalkeeper.
Their youth team gets their players from the South Pole City Soccer Academy. Anyone can enroll, but only a couple make it to the youth team. They also buy some players from other youth teams, usually buying from smaller teams like Dorkugal and teams from Yow.
