Super Paper Pengo is an RPG-type platformer for the Vii. Most of the game takes place in a strange 2D version of the Box Dimension. However, it's not just a 2D side-scroller...the game fuses elements of 2D and 3D gameplay together, shifting back and forth between dimensions. The player must start out with Pengo Flipper, but as time moves on, Princess Penghi, Gwin Flipper IV, and even Powngzer will become playable. The game was originally going to be released in 2008, but was pushed back to 2009.

Story[edit]

The story opens with Pengo and Gwin Flipper being informed by Toddie about Princess Penghi's latest kidnapping. Believing Powngzer to be the culprit, the brothers immediately head off to his evil igloo, only to find him preparing to attack. A villain named Count von Blenguin then appears with his assistant, Nastasienguin and Penghi, who is his prisoner. He announces his plans to use Penghi "to destroy all boxes", and renders Pengo unconscious with his dark powers when the penguin tries to attack him. When Powngzer demands Penghi's release, Blenguin decides to take the King of the Koopengs as well, and sucks him, the gathered Koopeng Army, Gwin and Pengho away, leaving only Pengo behind.

Elsewhere, when Penghi regains her own consciousness, she discovers that she and Powngzer are both dressed in wedding outfits and standing at an altar in the Box Dimension, while Powngzer's minions cheer on Powngzer. Count von Blenguin is officiating the wedding, and while Powngzer agrees to take Penghi as his wife, she tries to refuse, only to be forced into saying "I do" by Nastasienguin's powers of hypnosis. The marriage between the "furious evil king" and the "fair and lovely penguin" calls forth the Chaos Deletion Emote, just as Count von Blenguin had planned. Gwin awakens in the crowd and tries to stop Blenguin and save Penghi, but he is too late. Fulfilling the prophecy he read in an ancient book known as the Black Prucitsongocus, Blenguin takes the Chaos Deletion Emote and uses it to open the CyberVoid, which will delete the universe.

Back at Powngzer's Evil Igloo, Pengo is awakened by a Vidgt named Hinti, who brings him to the town of Flupbox (a box in the Box Dimension) and introduces him to Merlonguin. He owns the benevolent counterpart of Blenguins's book, the White Prucitsongocus, and explains that his tome speaks of a hero fitting Pengo's description who could stop the impending destruction of all the worlds. The CyberVoid is already visible in the sky above Flupbox, and with no time to lose, Merlonguin gives Pengo the first of eight Pure Emoticons that he will need to counteract the Chaos Deletion Emoticon. Hinti then guides Pengo to the first EmotePillar found in Flupbox, into which Pengo puts his Pure Emote, causing a red door to appear on top of Flupbox Tower leading straight to Line Island. Merlonguin also tells Pengo that he must learn the "dimensional technique" from his friend Buivotbes, without which he would not be able to find the rest of the Pure Emotes.

Meanwhile, in Castle Blenguin, the Count and Nastasienguin meet with the other three minions, Dimentisland, O'Chops and the shape-shifting Puffli. When Nastasienguin reports that there has been some "unapproved interdimensional activities" lately and suspects it's the hero Pengo Flipper that's causing it, O'Chops volunteers to take care of Blenguin's enemy, and Dimentisland agrees to tag along and watch the show.

Chapter 1: Line Island[edit]

By going through the red door, Pengo starts his adventure in Line Island, the first world. He manages to find the Flip wizard, Buivotbes, and gains the ability to flip between dimensions, 2D to 3D, which proves quite handy in traversing Line Island. After climbing Mount Lisland, Pengo and Hinti reach Tholdline Island, where they find another Vidgt named Flippigrab, who assists them as they cross the puzzle-filled Tholdline Desert. They encounter O'Chops in the desert, but using Flippigrab, they easily defeat him and proceeded onward to Tholdline Ice Cave, within which the next Pure Emote is guarded by the robotic dragon, ScornBot. He recognizes Pengo as the legendary hero, but before he can let the penguin pass, Dimentisland appears and corrupts the dragon's mind. ScornBot attacks Mario, but is eventually defeated, and with his dying words, beseeches the hero to save their world. Pengo then enters the sanctum ScornBot was guarding, and is given a Pure Heart by Merluminguin, one of the ancients who wrote the White Prucitsongocus.

Interlude:
Meanwhile, O'Chops reports back to Castle Blenguin in shame, so the Count sends Zoozy to deal with the hero, confident that the powers he has given her will bring her success. Nastasienguin then goes in the search of some of the "goons" who still aren't under the Blenguins's control.

Soon after, Penghi (back in her usual pink dress) wakes up in Castle Blenguin where she meets a couple of Powngzer's minions. The koopeng who goes looking for Powngzer is soon hypnotized by Nastasienguin, as is the hammer koopeng when he and Penghi are caught in a dead end during their search for an exit, however the princess is teleported out of the castle before she shares in their fate.

Far away, Pengo returns to Flupbox and brings the Pure Emote to Merlonguin's house, where they are soon interrupted by a citizen (Sleet) panicking about a girl falling from the sky. They investigate and discover that the girl is actually Princess Penghi. On Merlonguin's orders, Pengo fetches some Hot Sauce Noodles from the local chef, Nnorfast, which revives the princess. She insists on joining Pengo on his quest, as she feels that she and Powngzer are at fault for the CyberVoid's opening, so Merlonguin sends them both on their way, telling them that he belives the next Pure Emote is with Merleenga, the charmer. Penghi helps Pengo find the next EmotePillar and the orange door to Gwin Valley appears.

Chapter 2: Gwin Valley[edit]

Pengo and Penghi cross Gwin Valley (which was discovered by Gwin Flipper IV's distand relative, Gwin Flipper III) to reach Merleenga's Haunted Igloo, meeting an explosive Vidgt named Banger on the way. At the igloo, Puffli is waiting in disguise as Merleenga's sister, and uses traps to stall the heroes, but they soon make their way farther into the igloo, inadvertently freeing Merleenga's pet Gneng, who chases after Puffli. She quickly returns, however, and when the heroes accidentally break a vase, she claims it is worth one billion roybiez and forces them to work off their dept in the igloo's power plant, where many more prisoners are labouring away. With some more exploring, the heroes find a new Vidgt called Slerm, and using his abilities, they find a secret room which had been spoken of by some of the other prisoners. Inside is one billion roybiez, and when they present the vase payment to Puffli, she litterally explodes in rage. The heroes head to the basement where a spectral Merleenga appears and warns them to be careful as they search for her, but the connection is soon lost. They soon find who appears to be Merleenga, but soon discover that it is really Puffli in disguise, enraging the shape-shifting penguin, who reverts into her "true" form: a crab-like creature. With Puffli in pursuit, Pengo, Penghi and the vidgts eventually track down the real Merleenga hiding in a bedroom. Puffli turns back into Merleenga to try and fool the heroes, who are then forced to ask each "Merleenga" questions in a quiz show overseen by the WinterNed to try and discern the real one from the imposter. After being outed once more, Puffli attacks the heroes in her "true form" once again, but she is weakened by Merleenga's magical "The Dancing" and they defeat Puffli. Once Puffli flees, Merleenga offers the third Pure Emote to Pengo and Penghi, and tells them that there is actually a total of four heroes mentioned in the White Prucitsongicus.

Interlude:
With Puffli defeated by the hero, Count von Blenguin decides to send his third minion, Dimentisland, to go after the hero Pengo Flipper. Nastasienguin resumes her hunt for non-hypnotized koopengs around the castle. Meanwhile, Gwin Flipper wakes up and is greeted by two guinbas, who trick him into finding them an exit out of the castle, although they eventually find themselves trapped in a dead-end by Nastasienguin. One of the guinbas is hypnotized and the other guinba joins the winning team, and they restrain Gwin so that Nastasienguin can hypnotize him as well.

The CyberVoid is still getting bigger over Flupbox when Pengo, Pengh and their vidgt friends return. After finding the third EmotePillar, a yellow door to The Boxlands appears on the tower.

Gameplay[edit]

Vidgts[edit]

Vidgts are new creatures in the game that give Pengo and crew new abilities. There are thirteen in total, four are optional. However, only twelve can be carried, since Hintron is only available after Hinti disappears. Also, an odd ladder vidgt was seen in beta versions of the game, but was cut out from the final version for unknown reasons. According to Snowtendo, vidgts are called vidgts because they wanted to combine "video" and "game" (video game) so they decided to take the first 3 letters from "video" and the first letter from "game" (Video Game; vidg) and put some letters at the end. Someone decided to put a "T", making the name "vidgt".
