Talk:2017 Western Union Congress

From Club Penguin Fanon Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

For all Western Union members: Voting, speeches and all related discussion closes Friday. Feel free to post anything or vote on proposals until then.

Due to the fact that members of the Western Union live in different time zones and it would be hard for all of us to get on IRC at the same time, User:Penstubal and I decided to try something new. This discussion will only be open to members of the Western Union, who will role-play as their country's leader, or as a representative in the Western Union. Any member is free to present topics that will be voted on by other members. If you do not want to introduce a topic here, contact me or User:Penstubal on IRC.

Topics[edit]

Common Currency - "Circle" (+1)[edit]

MOTION PASSED

Inspired after the IRL Euro. We should have a common currency called the Circle, it's symbol being ₵. I think this will make the Western Union stronger and bring our economies closer together. Please vote and discuss this. Brant and I agreed that nations will be able to keep their own currencies but they will also recognize the Circle as a second official currency in their countries, and the Circle will also be the sole official currency of the Western Union itself.

Comments[edit]

  • Please discuss this here, in this section. --Penstubal (Talk) (Edits) 13:09, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
  • Do member countries have to replace their original currency with the Circle if the proposal passes? --CPRussia.pngBelarus flag.jpgSlender Talk to me 14:01, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
    • Member countries should have 5 years to switch to the currency and each year the deadline could be extended by another 5 years at the agreement of all member states. --Penstubal (Talk) (Edits) 14:03, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
      • In that case, I would be opposed to this proposal, but since I've given Margate's OOC rights to Wonder, I'll leave this for him to decide. --CPRussia.pngBelarus flag.jpgSlender Talk to me 15:34, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
  • The currency would have to be equal in value to the rest of the major trading currency (i.e: Polarian Dollar, WikiBuck$), otherwise the move is pointless. -Wonderweez (Talk · Contribs) 14:22, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
  • This would throw the entire cheese-based economy of Caseusopolis into complete chaos! Unless you can find some way around it. I'm against. --Mr Cow2 (talk) 17:03, 30 April 2017 (UTC)

Improve the Military Forces of the Western Union (+0)[edit]

MOTION FAILED

Due to the recent actions of the United States of Antarctica, it is appropriate we prepare for any future conflicts, be it from the United States of Antarctica or any foreign nation. This proposal, if passed, will include the installment of defenses for each WU country, allow for scheduled annual training exercises for the military forces of each WU nation, create a list of guidelines for WU nations to follow, and allow for the WU itself to help weaker nations in the WU.

Comments[edit]

  • I'm afraid this is a very hard decision. Caseusopolis's army is designed the way it is for a reason other than cultural support, however, it wouldn't stand a chance if somebody tried to attack it. Unless someone can convince me to either side of the argument, I must abstain. --Mr Cow2 (talk) 04:06, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
    • You could always use some extra strength in case you get attacked. This doesn't change any country's military. It pretty much just makes it more powerful. --Brant (Talk) (Contributions) 23:08, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

Create a Western Union Army (+1)[edit]

MOTION PASSED

The Western Union Army will primarily serve in humanitarian and peacekeeping missions where it is needed, though will get full military training and can act as a military force to protect the interests of the Western Union should it be attacked. This prevents the army from being used in a conflict where the Western Union or a Western Union member is the aggressor. Each country will carry a branch of the force. Such force has already been in the works for several months, though this act will allow it to become official.

  • The people of Caseusopolis are all for peace, and it would be a good opportunity to have soldiers gain both general military experience and discipline, but also experience with real weapons, in case we do decide to change the military. --Mr Cow2 (talk) 04:08, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
  • If this passes, Margate will refuse to supply troops or funds to the army, preferring to use its own. We also recognize that the army has full rights to not protect Margate as a whole as well, but assert that its other alliances provide adequate funding and support in defense of it. -Wonderweez (Talk · Contribs) 17:58, 18 May 2017 (UTC)
  • No unless nations get an opt-out choice and retain their current armies. --Penstubal (Talk) (Edits) 19:15, 18 May 2017 (UTC)
    • Nations will be able to retain their current armies, of course. We'll have to see about the opt-out choice, because it would defeat the purpose of a united peacekeeping force if only say, two countries participate. --Brant (Talk) (Contributions) 23:08, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

Create a single Western Union Transportation System (+2)[edit]

MOTION PASSED

Similar to the Land Transport Ministry of Antarctica, the Western Union Transportation System will serve as the transportation system for the entire Western Union. This will allow for the construction of Western Union roads overseen by the Western Union, but will also include other modes of transportation, including air, sea, and rail.

Comments[edit]

  • We here at Caseusopolis think a transportation system would be a very good idea to increase efficiency and relationships.

Leader/Representative Speeches[edit]

Any Western Union member who wishes to give a speech, whether short or long, may do it here. The speech could be just about anything, though it has to be relevant to the Western Union. When giving the speech, please remember to role-play as your country's leader or representative. Anyone, be it Western Union members or other leaders may give their reactions below the speech.

One of the many things that make the Western Union great is simply the stunning economy we all contribute to among ourselves. I also believe in the idea of free trade, not limited simply to the use of a common currency without a proper financial backing. That being said, I believe that the Circle currency idea would play a good part in increasing our trade, but not without dragging down the economies of those that prosper without it. I like the idea of adopting it simply as a secondary currency, yet I still believe in the use of our already established currency systems, and I encourage everyone else to be also in favor of this as well. Why switch to something when the original isn't broken?

Due to the recent actions of Mr. Happyface, who has threatened to invade Acadia, a Western Union member and capital of the Western Union, we are in a bigger threat than ever. As such, I propose a rearmament of our military forces to meet the new threat. We must show Mr. Happyface that we are not a weak nation, and are willing to stand strong in the face of adversity.

We must stay united and defend our union from the outside and from the inside. War between Acadia and the United States is not tolerable. It will cause mass destruction and a global war, and there will be no winners and losers in case of a US-Acadian war. Our goal this congress is to rally together and unite the continent.

United States warmongering is absolutely not acceptable and will result in total and all-out war between many nations.

— Patrick Smith (Minister of Foreign Affairs)
We will seek to create a peaceful dialogue between the United States and Acadia. The United Provinces and dozens of other nations can not afford a war at this time, let us warn all sides of the possible destruction a war could bring.

— Lena Sanders, Prime Minister

Other Discussion[edit]

Any non-member of the Western Union is free to state their opinions or ask questions here. --Brant (talk) 23:21, 29 April 2017 (UTC)

What is this, why am I not in it? And my favorite question: How do I join? --Dave33333 The Epic King has returned! 23:48, 29 April 2017 (UTC)
This the discussion for a meeting of a political alliance. To join you need to have a country, and second of all, you need to be invited. But don't feel bad if you're not in here. --Brant (talk) 23:59, 29 April 2017 (UTC)
Well, that's all I needed to know. If the policy was not in effect, there would be a Daveland. --Dave33333 The Epic King has returned! 00:06, 30 April 2017 (UTC)

Heh, I completely forgot about Caseusopolis. Sure, I'm in. --Mr Cow2 (talk) 04:10, 30 April 2017 (UTC)

So is the UP's debt going to drag down the Cent's value for the rest of the Union? CKSysop/BOBmaster? 18:54, 30 April 2017 (UTC)

Isn't all of the militarist/anti US stuff not needed anymore? Thought we cleared those things up. CKSysop/BOBmaster? 02:37, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

No, because we still need a good military to defend ourselves. There is literally no anti-USA stuff on there either. --Brant (Talk) (Contributions) 02:45, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

But the military topics were only added because of the Acadia-US tensions.
Also, "Improve the Military Forces of the Western Union --- Due to the recent actions of the United States of Antarctica, it is appropriate we prepare for any future conflicts, be it from the United States of Antarctica or any foreign nation. Seems like US-Acadia stuff and more meatshielding to me. CKSysop/BOBmaster? 19:43, 18 May 2017 (UTC)
