The first United Provinces Presidential Elections took place on the 2nd of September 2015. They were the first elections in the new country, the United Provinces. Simon McClark from the Democratic Party would win the elections with 57% of the votes, with former vice president Jerry Waltera, a conservative, coming second, with 42% of the votes. Millions of people countrywide voted to elect the person who will guide the new country into the future.
Background[edit]
Previously, in July 2015, Robert Smith was ousted in a peaceful revolution. The Parliament was temporarily in charge of the country until a new leader could be elected. The election date was set to be September 2nd, with September 1st, 2nd and 3rd as days off for workers across the country. At the same time as the presidential election was the parliamentary election.
The Election[edit]
The two candidates for the Democratic and Conservative party were Simon McClark, former vice president, and Jerry Waltera, incumbent vice president. Simon McClark ran with the platform of a stronger economy, bigger government, more democracy and pacifism. Jerry Waltera argued for a smaller government, less government interference into penguins' lives and a stronger military and harsher treatment of terrorists. Pre election polling showed McClark may win by margins well over 65% to 30%. In the end, he won 57% to 42%.
