Dragonstone, officially the Lysene Special Administrative Territory of Dragonstone is an island located near Lys, in between Club Penguin and Snowiny. The island was settled in 740 by High Penguins from Valnor, just two years before its destruction. Dragonstone voted to join with Lys in a 2000 referendum, though there has been renewed calls for independence in recent years.

Since the extinction of dragons around 1075, Dragonstone has been the last known place where dragons live in abundance, though there is said to be dragon nests on other places in Antarctica. since it is said that dragons like the warmth of the Dragonmount, an extinct volcano in the middle of the island. According to some, there are around 25 dragons on Dragonstone.

History[edit]

Foundation[edit]

The island of Dragonstone was settled by a small group Quendi thousands of years ago, and was one of the last islands they settled, being one of the northernmost of the Stepstones. Because it was relatively small and so far north, and had few natural resources and poor soil, the island was relatively ignored by the kings of the southern Stepstones, who instead focused on larger, more fertile islands during their many wars and conquests.

However, in 730, years before the Destruction of Valnor, a group of High Penguins called the Valyrians settled on the island. Like the Quendi, the Valyrians learned to ride and tame dragons, and brought many to Dragonstone. Over time, the Valyrians and Quendi interbred with each other, and together, conquered many of the surrounding islands with their use of dragons. By 900, the Kingdom of Dragonstone was established.

Medieval Times[edit]

During the medieval period, the Kingdom of Dragonstone continued to expanded into the southern Stepstones. The Osloven Empire, which occupied the area south of the Stepstones, saw the expansion as a threat. The neighboring Kingdom of the Stepstones was also expanding south. The Osloven Empire feared that its enemy the High Penguin Confederacy would ally with the two kingdoms and invade the Osloven Empire. So, in 1200, the Osloven Empire declared war against both the Kingdom of the Stepstones and the Kingdom of Dragonstone.

Because the Osloven Empire was numerically superior, and catching them off guard, during the first year of the war, the Osloven Empire inflicted a string of defeats upon the Kingdom of the Stepstones and the Kingdom of Dragonstone. It was only when the High Penguin Confederacy invaded the Osloven Empire that the Empire's strength was pulled back to defend the homeland, allowing the two countries to mobilize their forces. Once the High Penguin Confederacy was defeated, the Osloven Empire finally turned back towards the two kingdoms.

At the Battle of Bloodstone in 1204, the combined might of Dragonstone and the Stepstones defeated the Osloven Empire, with the help of dragons. However, both sides knew they could not win, and at the Treaty of Myr in 1204, the two sides agreed to not expand to each others' territory. They also ceded islands in the Stepstones and Puffepelago to each other. Dragonstone and the Osloven Empire also became allies, which was evident through the early 20th century, when Dragonstone aided the Osloven Empire during the Khanzem War.

Khanzem[edit]

When news reached Dragonstone that the High Penguin Confederacy had been overthrown, and the Khanzem War had begun, most in Dragonstone supported the High Penguin Confederacy, even though they were enemies in the past. The citizens and government of Dragonstone found Khanzem as a more dangerous threat, and decided to ally with their High Penguin kin to defeat Khanzem, which had already committed numerous atrocities against High Penguins. Thus, in 1914, Khanzem dispatched an army to invade the Osloven Empire, Stepstones, and Dragonstone.

At the Battle of Evoland in 1914, a Khanzem army defeated an Osloven army, backed by Dragonstone and the Stepstones. Dragonstone and Stepstones forces retreated back to defend their homeland, as the Osloven Empire was being overrun by Khanzem forces. Fortunately, Khanzem stopped their conquests there, as they had more crucial matters to attend to. Still, Khanzem forces on Snowiny remained to powerful to be defeated, so Dragonstone stayed on the defensive for most of the war, sending supplies and weapons to the Good Guys.

In 1918, as Good Guy forces were inching closer and closer towards Smackemsillyton, the capital, Dragonstone seized the opportunity, seeing that Khanzem forces were more focused on Antarctica, and would turn their backs towards the Stepstones, allying with the Stepstones, Lys, and the Osloven remnants to liberate the island of Snowiny from Khanzem forces, who were quickly defeated. They then moved south, helping liberate Smackemsillyton in 1918, and ending the war.

Colonial Antarctica[edit]

After the Puffish established dominion over Antarctica in 1990, and had already invaded the Free Cities of Myr and Tyrosh in the southern Stepstones, they also attempted to invade Dragonstone, though because of its defenses, along with aid from Francterre, they were defeated. Puffle'and never attempted another conquest of the island, abandoning their claim to Dragonstone.

When news reached Dragonstone of the first shots of the Colonial Revolution fired at Luckyton and Coconut, and that rebellions had broken out in the Puffish colonies in the Stepstones, Dragonstone was quick to send aid to the rebels, quickly expelling Puffish control of Myr and Tyrosh. A combined fleet from Dragonstone, along with the newly founded countries of Myr and Tyrosh, sailed south, ravishing Puffish holdouts in the Province of Acadia.

Government[edit]

Unlike many countries, Dragonstone is ruled by a lord, who is the central governing body of Dragonstone. There is also the Dragonstone Council, also known as simply the Council, which has around 20 members. The Lord makes the laws, and the Council is supposed to approve them before they can be enforced. The Lord must also obey the orders of Council of High Lords in Lys.

Politics[edit]

Dragonstone refers to itself as a Constitutional Monarchy, in which the monarch is supposed to obey the constitution. The main body of government, and the only one, is the lord himself and his Council. Elections are held every ten years to choose a new Council member. Dragonstone is a single party start, with the only party being the Nationalist Party.

Lords[edit]

The Lord of Dragonstone is the head of state, head of government, and Commander-In-Chief of the Dragonstone Armed Forces. The role of the Lord is to make the laws, enforce them, and govern the populace wisely. In addition, the Lord serves as High Justice of the Dragonstone Court, along with other titles such as Master of Dragons. The title of Lord is hereditary. The Lord reports directly to the Lysene President, serving as somewhat of a governor for Dragonstone.

Foreign Relations[edit]

Dragonstone is a permanent member of the CP Gold Coin Alliance, SATO, and the UAN. It also maintains embassies and consulates in most Antarctic nations. The foreign policy of Dragonstone is non-interventionist, only intervening in conflicts if it threatens Dragonstonian interests. Dragonstone also tries to maintain peace and stability in the region. The country also shares relationships with the United Provinces, USA, and the AU countries.

Military[edit]

The Dragonstone Armed Forces is one of the most powerful in the Stepstones, nearly equaling the military strength of Lys without its colonies. The military consists of the Dragonstone Air Force, Dragonstone Army, and Dragonstone Navy. Due to its proximity to the nearby imperialist Ninja Archipelago nations, the armed forces of Dragonstone has an emphasis on defense, with many of the military's soldiers dedicated to manning the island's many defense. Dragonstone is also known for using dragons. The Commander of the Dragonstone Armed Forces is the Lord of Dragonstone.

Military service in Dragonstone is voluntary, though in times of war when the island is under imminent danger, drafting may occur. Dragonstone soldiers are specially trained to fight in tight zones, as the geographic restrictions of Dragonstone prevents defenders from retreating. Instead, they must be able to repel the attackers. The military budget is also at a high 5% of the GDP.

Economy[edit]

Dragonstone has a powerful economy that stands out among the other Lysene colonies. In fact, Dragonstone has the largest GDP and largest exporter the three Lysene colonies. One of the exports Dragonstone exports are dragon eggs, though many other items are also exported.

Agriculture[edit]

Aside from there being almost no land to farm in, Dragonstone has a rocky soil, making whatever available land impossible to farm. Like in Lys, a trend has started in recent years with other ways to farm that don't take up much, such as greenhouses and high rise rooftop gardens. The new "vertical farming" has been encouraged by the government, and projects have been subsidized. Food is also imported from nearby countries.

Natural Resources[edit]

Mining takes up a good part of the economy in Dragonstone, as the island, while rocky, has many precious materials such as gold, ore, and other metals under the ground. In the surrounding seas around Dragonstone, there are also many oil drills. The timber industry is nonexistent, as there are almost no trees, and the ones that are three are forbidden to be cut.

Food[edit]

There are few restaurants in Dragonstone, and fewer are owned by corporations. The strict guidelines set by both the governments of Dragonstone and Lys prevent or deter most restaurants from opening. In an attempt to boost tourism and income, the government of Dragonstones has gone more lax on the policies, and many restaurants have taken the chance to open in Dragonstone.

Services[edit]

While the government of Dragonstone offers many services to its citizens, one of the most important services is protection, as Dragonstone is a large fortress for Lys. The official and largest protection service is the Dragonstone Intelligence Agency, a child agency of the Lysene Intelligence Agency. There are also services in healthcare and financial aid.

Manufacturing[edit]

Manufacturing is one of the biggest sectors of the economy, and produces many items, from textiles to household items. Recently, the arms industry has been developing, and is funded by the government. There are also many oil refineries off the coast of Dragonstone.

Employment Rates[edit]

Dragonstone has a very high employment rate, due to the growing manufacturing industry and the many projects the government has started over the years. There has also been many robots created to do undesirable, difficult, or dangerous jobs, which many fear this will take away many jobs.

Currency[edit]

As with all Lysene colonies, Dragonstone uses the Lysene Dollar, which stays at the stable value of 2 Fish. Currency in Dragonstone is controlled by the Department of the Treasury, a branch of the Lysene Department of the Treasury. Since Lys joined the CP Gold Coin Alliance, Club Penguin Coins are also acceptable as legal tender, though Lysene Dollars are still the main currency.

Dragonstone also uses its special currency, called Gold Dragons, which are worth 1.5 Lysene Dollars, and were the currency of independent Dragonstone. Gold Dragons, however, are exclusive to the Dragonstone and its surrounding islands, though Lys and another colony, Tyrosh, has considered using it.

Culture[edit]

Since Dragonstone was only annexed by Lys in 2000, its culture is much different. Because there is little immigration to Dragonstone, and the population is mostly homogeneous, Dragonstone has a very similar culture to old Valnor, since the island was colonized by Valnor and its first settlers were Valnorian High Penguins.

Sports[edit]

One of the most popular sports in Dragonstone, played by the wealthy, is dragonriding, which is similar to horseback riding, with the exception that dragons are being used instead of horses. However, other sports such as basketball and soccer are also played. Sports are controlled by the Dragonstone Sports Association, which is owned by the Lysene Sports Association. Dragonstone has competed in the Olympics, in a separate team.

Music[edit]

Dragonstoner music is considered old, and follows after the music of ancient Valnor and Freezeland. New music mostly has a classical theme to it, and genres such as pop, rock, or hip hop are almost nonexistent, though those genres have been popular with the young of Dragonstone, and groups such as the KD Band and Lavender 5 have managed to sell CDs on the island.

Demographics[edit]

Dragonstone's population is homogeneous, with most of the population being the native Quendi or Valyrians, who were refugees fleeing the Destruction of Valnor over 1,000 years ago, though both are branches of High Penguins. Since there is few to no immigration, the population of the island has grown steadily over the years. Fat rates are extremely low, almost none among the native population, due to the lack of fast food chains and multiple fitness and healthy eating programs. The literacy rate is a 98%, and the mother tongue is English and Sindarin, Quenya, and Valyrian, three dialects of the High Penguin language.

Languages[edit]

Dragonstone has three official languages, English, Quenya, and Valyrian. English is the main language of Dragonstone, and is used in business, education, government, and in everyday conversations. Most citizens of Dragonstone are able to speak English. Quenya, though the native language, is used less often, though many names in Dragonstone have Quenya roots. Instead, the northern dialect of Quenya, Sindarin, is used more often. Valyrian is used more often than Quenya or Sindarin, due to many of the island's residents having Valyrian roots. Most residents of Dragonstone are bilingual, speaking both English and Valyrian, or English and Quenya.

Education[edit]

Education consists of three levels, primary, which is Kindergarten to 6th grade, secondary, which is 7th to 12th grade, and post-secondary, which is college or university. Dragonstone laws state that a student must attend six years of primary school, and five years of secondary school. Post-secondary school is optional. There are three types of schools in Dragonstone, public, private, and semi-private. Public schools are run by the government, private schools are privately owned, and semi-private schools are privately owned but partially funded by the government. To pass from one stage to another, students must take a final exam, which average around 95%. Students spend around 190 days in school.

Geography[edit]

Dragonstone is a 300 mile² island located to the northwest of the Ninja Archipelago, and one of the northernmost of the Stepstones. The island is very high above sea level, with the highest point, Dragonmount, being around 4,000 meters above sea level. Dragonstone's terrain is also very uneven. Though the island is very rocky and has few foliage, the government has planted many trees, especially alongside major roads and highways, and has set some land aside for parks. According to legend, the founders of Dragonstone, planted the first trees where Dragonstone National Forest now stands.

Climate[edit]

Dragonstone has a temperate climate, and is classified under Class C in the Kloppen climate survey. Winters in Dragonstone are less colder than in mainland Antarctica, while summers are warmer. The island has both a moderately wet summer and winter.

Infrastructure[edit]

Communications[edit]

Dragonstone is considered a technologically advanced country. Communications are left to independent corporations such as Peach, which, through an ever competitive market, makes prices more inexpensive. Almost all households have telephone lines, and the number of cell phone users also surpassed the population of Dragonstone in 2016. In addition the number of wireless internet users has also encompassed nearly all of Dragonstone.

Transportation[edit]

Because Dragonstone is very dense in population, citizens must register to purchase a certificate from the government in order to buy a car. Cars in Dragonstone are also considerably higher than in other countries. Thus, most households in Dragonstone usually own one car, with wealthier ones owning around two. Traffic in Dragonstone keeps to the right.
