Family history[edit]
The Tang family were originally immigrants from the Honk Gong region, driven off when the Puffish massacred the clan when they refused to surrender their land as per an agreement between the Zhouese and Puffish governments in the mid 1850s. Settling down in Margate City, their hard work and eye for business gave them the opportunities to rise up the ranks, slowly building up a business empire focusing on oil palm, which grew well in the colony, and silk production, and moving on to new industries and ditching older trends quickly, allowing them to become highly influential in the business and commerce sectors. The businesses run by the clan today are one of the largest and most influential in the nation, generally tending to specialize in nanotechnology and green energy production. While the top roles are generally passed down to the next generation, they will have to prove their worth first, which makes them extremely competitive
Relish the Fire[edit]
An idea i've had for a while. This is part of a whole story which I'm writing
I stand in front of the flames, taking in a breath, smelling the arid smoke around me. Burning, glowing, destroying, rebuilding, living. This is the thing that burns before me, sparks flying. Thoughts of destruction are overwhelmed by glimpses of beauty. To, or not to step through it? Pondering, waiting as the area around me is consumed, bit by bit, until it surrounds the room, closing the exit, as the time for me to choose is coming to an end. Fire is bipolar. It is one and the other. It is what gave us civilization and advancement. Yet it also threatens to end the concept it first started. The time draws near and this time, I am alone, with no one beside me to come along and continue a journey of sacrifice and bravery. The smoke becomes thicker now and I struggle to breathe. Sparks hit my skin, causing me to wince in pain. I know that if I don’t pass through it, I will die. Yet if I do, what the other side holds could be worse. What could be more painful than death? I try to be rational and make myself move, yet I can’t. Boiling and evaporating is what water does in fire. I am the brother of water, the last one. Now, I face my greatest fear. Go. Go. Familiar voices speak. Do it for us. Do what we have failed to. I hear them. They are beside me no matter what. I miss them. Whatever the outcome, whether I will join them or not, I am reassured.
I step quickly into the fire, forcing myself to walk, even as the pain sears through my entire body. Yet I feel revitalized, and the pain quickly disappears. Breathing in, I remember home and memories rush through. I keep on walking as I see the exit. But I don’t want to go. I want to stay with them forever. My fear is forgotten and like water, my life energy is slowly being consumed by the fire. My brothers can only be with me for so long. We will always be with you. Never forget. The voices speak once more, for the last time, as I take my final steps. For the last time, I relish the fire of passion. Tears leave my eyes and dissipate as I step out. I close my eyes shut, not wanting the final memory leave my mind. Yet as I open my eyes, I see the surroundings of the temple we encountered four years ago. This time, I am alone, and I hear no sound, only my voice, not Alex’s, Chris’ or Ken’s
But I know I’m not alone anymore.
And as I manipulate the water in my hands, I know that this story, this battle will continue after 5 generations. And 5 more and 5 more until the world comes to an end.

In the 2020s, aside from annexing planet Mullinst (which significantly boosted Margate's GDP), not much were achieved by the Margatian government. During the Shops Civil War, it gained Shops Island's main power seat in the UAN. It stayed neutral throughout the Shops Civil War, although it did supported the Republic during the Snoss Civil War. In early June 2031, just a few months after Castilla regained all of its colonies, the USA invaded and occupied the Castillan colony of Cuadra, which has a sizable oil reserve. King Clovis Hochstadt, furious at the Antarctican government, tried to pass a resolution in the UAN condemning the invasion and placing sanctions on the USA, but it was vetoed by the superpower. President Mueller, who was also outraged by Antarctica's attempt to dominate the oil industry, held a private meeting with the Castillan King along with the Ruscan President. It was in this meeting where the three adopted the decision to place a collective oil embargo on the USA in order to pressure it into leaving Cuadra. Soon, Grand Permatan (whose colony of Calada is one of the USA's largest oil supplier) and Zhou joined in the embargo as well. By 2037, the Antarcticans, tired of suffering from the resulting recession, elected a new government which gave Cuadra back to Castilla in exchange for lifting the embargo. It was one of the few instances when other nations proved that even superpowers like the USA could be defeated if they unite together.
Very soon, President Mueller passed away in 2032, while enforcing his embargo on the USA. His successor Alexander Whittaker (who was PM prior to Mueller's death). Alexander would go on with his predecessor's embargo against the USA and finally pressured them into leaving Cuadra. By then, he seemed to be one of Margate's best leaders - until Prime Minister Ismail Ali discovered that at least 87 billion Margatian Dollars was moved to Alexander's personal bank accounts from Kenestrel Holdings, one of Margate's primary sovereign wealth funds. This sparked widespread outrage throughout the nation since the Margatians believed that by embezzling $87 billion, Alexander had just turned the nation's longstanding reputation as a corruption-free nation into mud. After further protests, Alexander was impeached by the Parliament, appointing Ismail Ali as the next President. When further investigation revealed that several key figures in the government took some form of kickbacks or embezzlements, the Parliament amended the laws to the extent of being plain draconian. While a policeman in 2015 who took a bribe of $200 would probably be sentenced to 10-15 years in prison (before that 10-30 strokes of the cane also applied), the equivalent in 2035 (when Ismail Alisigned the draconian amendment) would have resulted in death by guillotine. Corporal punishment was also reintroduced. It was only in 2047 when Ismail Ali reverted the laws back to its pre-Mueller version, although the guillotine remained.

Ethnicities in Margate[edit]
The population of Margate consists of seventy-three million and can be divided into three major ethnic groups. The Zhouese-Peletoniums form the majority at 45%, the enclave-Peletoniums at 15% and the artifically created Nexonan race makes up 10%. The remaining 30% are a mix of various penguin subspecies from around Antarctica.
The Zhouese and Enclave penguins emigrated from their homelands in the Asiapelago in search of a better life in the prosperous trading ports of Margate. It was far from home yet for most it was better than the instability that rocked the Ching-ruled Zhou and the brutal policies set down by the Batavians in Hindonesie. Initially, most of these penguins had no intention of staying, but the cost of the return journey was too high for many, and most of them were ultimately forced to settle down and raise their families in Margate. Soon, a unique identity developed for these immigrants - as generations passed, the Zhouese and Enclave penguins no longer felt connected to their ancestral homelands, rather many had nationalistic thoughts about their new home, which ignited in the 1940s. Today, the local Zhouese and Enclave penguins have a culture and customs rather unlike the Zhou and Hindonesie of the present, as many of the traditions the original immigrants brought to Margate have died out in their ancestral homelands.
The Nexonan penguins have rather different origins. Artificially engineered and mass cloned to be soldiers for the High Empire of Nexon in 2013, the Nexonan race has not yet fully integrated into the society of Zhouese and Enclaves, who are increasingly xenophobic even to penguins of their own race with external citizenship. While Nexonan penguins make good soldiers and warriors as they are more hardy and brave, taking on more civilian roles has been a struggle for them due to their inbred violent and sadistic tendencies. However, ever since Frederick Mueller, a Nexonan penguin himself, took office as President, the amount of stigmatization and discrimination against them has gone down. Having being cloned in Nexon, Nexonan penguins typically follow Alemanian customs and cultural traditions, although Austiceian culture is catching up in popularity too.
