User blog:Kwiksilver/Archetypes and Infoboxes (BONUS CHARACTER WORKSHOP!)
I did five years of acting school. In those five years, they taught me how to think on my feet, how to not be nervous, and how to act. One of the things I was taught were archetypes. Does anybody notice the "Archetype" section in the Infobox Character? I will give you things to fill it with. Commence Kwik's Archetype 101!
Policeman. What was the first thing that came into your mind? For some, it's the donut-eating, obese, tactless and stupid Chief Wiggum from the Simpsons. That is a stereotype, not an archetype. An archetype is the base of a character, it's base traits. Without an archetype, a character is basically nothing. When you're up on stage and you forget your lines, the best thing to do is think of your character's archetype and improvise according to it. Here are only some of many archetypes, copypasta from THIS WEBSITE.
Bear in mind that some characters can be made up of more than one type.
- The Child - Light-hearted, innocent, fun-loving, not hardened by the world. - Mabel X
- The Hero - The champion, the rescuer, the guy that saves princesses from towers. - Kwiksilver
- The Great Mother - Care and nurturing, motherly and loving. - I can't find one. We need more of this type.
- The Wise old man - Aged mentor figure, giving wise advice and knowledge. Can seem foreign or strange, and may have hidden and powerful powers. - TurtleShroom (penguin), Sensei
- The Trickster - Cunning, devious, selfish, only looks out for himself. - Zone, Leekduck
- The Villian - Villian, dangerous. Enemy of many. - Darktan, Director Benny
- The Fool - Happy-go-lucky, breezing through life. He delivers wisdom through his apparent cluelessness. - Willy the Penguin, Explorer 767
- The Mentor - Teacher type, passing on skills and advice. - Splinter from TMNT (We don't have any.)
It would be great if you considered the character's archetype before you created them, then marked their archetype down in their infobox so that people would know how to use your character in the stories. It'd reduce OOC issues.
Also, the character infobox needs to be fixed. There's some sort of massive gap in between two of the sections. Could somebody sort it out?
