User blog:Ninjinian/SKIN: Wikipedia's Beta Vector!
Today I checked into Wikipedia to see what was up and to edit some musical articles, and I saw that they were planning a new skin! Zapwire might disagree, but this is a spin-off of the Monobook skin, and it's called "Vector" - it is currently still in beta, but you can do a test if you log in (you gotta make a separate account for Wikipedia, but can be the same username you have here) - and I basically love it! It's not available to other wikis, but I've tried to hook up the CSS and make it here. I am not suggesting for this to become a default skin, but if you see the beta and try, it's a possibly, but unlikely. These are pages which you can see to view details on the skin:
The thing is I want this to be available to users, but what do you think about the skin? I like it, and I wish to use it as my default skin here - any way of making MediaWiki:Vector.css and pasting it? I tried that, but it won't enable in your preferences. My suggestions would be:
- contact staff and ask them about this
- try doing this again, with the possible help of Zapwire
If this becomes available to us:
- We'll ask Zapwire to modify the skin to make it look blue.. if he agrees
Any thoughts on this? Comment, please. I hope some of you like it - click the images above to make 'em bigger ;) - any offers to contact the staff if it will become available to other wikis? Like or dislike? Am I exaggerating a bit too much? I think so... repeating a lot too. Why is it even called "Vector" anyway? Is that it's official name, or test name?
