VOTING CLOSED. AGAINST SIDE WINS.

Hello Fellow Users, this is a wiki Bureaucrat, User:Swiss Ninja. Please read the following important announcement and law proposition.

For those that do not know, on April 14th and 15th, the Club Penguin Fanon Wiki experienced a rare crisis that happens at least once or twice a year.....We were raided by vandals. The good news? We killed them off easily, as we typically do. Extreme thanks to TurtleShroom, Andrew, and Amigopen for their help for reverting the extreme vandal mess.

The Vandals claimed to be part of the group known as the Purple Republic, shortened as PR. Although they are known for raiding and attacking Club Penguin itself, it is strange that they have attacked us since we are not affiliated with Club Penguin at all.

Also, the majority of these vandals were registered user accounts that were created, but some of them were regular IP addresses that vandalize, which brings me to today's point:

BANNING IP ADRESSES (Unregistered Users or Not Logged in Users) FROM EDITING THIS WIKI FOR GOOD.

Personally, I EXTREMELY dislike the idea of anonymous IP Adresses editing our pages. Why? It's because we don't know who they are, and because most of the time, they add inappropriate content or stupid gibberish. But I really shouldn't be the one to influence your opinions...instead, I'll give you the pros and cons of this.

Pros of banning IP Adresses from Editing[edit]

  • Anonymous IP vandalism can be COMPLETELY removed.
  • Vandals would have to go through the trouble of registering their accounts, which means we can just ban them and prevent account creation instead of banning their whole IP Adress
  • This encourages people to make accounts and officially join the wiki as someone recognizable.
  • If an IP adress is banned, it could effect other households who SHARE that IP adress, which is not fair to those who DO want to edit for the good of the wiki.
  • IP Adresses won't be revealed editing (which means, they will have a lesser chance of being tracked down)
  • Finally, this is exactly what the old Wiki was and still is like. This ban of IP Adresses editing was already in place when I first joined the old CPFW years ago.

Cons of banning IP Adresses from Editing[edit]

  • People who do not have accounts can not edit
  • Users who do not want to log in can not edit.
  • Vandals can still make accounts and vandalize.
  • idk what else, but that's what i can think of at the moment

So Club Penguin Fanon Wiki community, what do YOU think about this law proposition that will be sent to the Staff? Should we ban unknown people (IP Adresses) from editing this wiki, or should we leave everything as it is?

For[edit]

  • Imma stick to what I've said. IPs : become a part of the community so you get recognition for your work. Why edit anonymously? Don't really see an objective in that. -- Ninj Xmas Sig.PNG ¤ (User page!) (Dat's DENCH me brudda!) 16:50, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

Against[edit]

  • I changed my mind after reading KameKinoko-sama's (TurtleShroom's) email. ^^; Gomen Suissu-sama. (Sorry Swiss.) >< /// User:Iceflower485

PS: I haven't been active recently because I've had trouble with cookies, advice would be appreciated, my browser is IE8.

Oh, the IP ban? I think it's reactionary and a malformed attempt to weed out the bad apples that came recently.

I support IP editing, and the biggest reason is actually the fact that Explorer himself was an IP for well over six months before his parents let him join! He edited a lot in six months as an IP. If we stifled that, how could we convince shy people to try the Wiki before they commit to registering?
It'd be extremely damaging to me, too.

My phone has trouble logging me in because my password is in binary, which I encrypt and decrypt by copying and pasting!

Many times, I edit by mobile IP to make "quickie reversions" to non-protected articles.

The IP thing is as retarded and poorly thought out as a law can get.

If I were Webmaster, I'd delete/veto the proposition without trial.

Comments[edit]

  • Just a comment on Amigopen and Fum's agreements.
    • Amigopen: Well, it can be reverted.
    • Fum: I was lucky that none of my pages were attacked, though my userpage was vandalized. Sir, I am in need of assistance!~Fixerbot.jpg 09:17, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

"Agreed. Since you can be at any age and still join"

Nope. You must be at least 13 to join the wiki. That applies to all the wikis in the Club Penguin Wiki Network. But nobody respects tthat rule. And your pages won't be vandalized by IPs if they are protected under the COC. When the article is yours, you say what goes and what doesn't. Onde day, Andrew said to me: "Is the problem bad enough so that you can't handle it? I don't think so."--PenBlooeR 15:57, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

  • No, Swiss Ninja said you don't have to be at least 13 to join the wiki, anyway most teens wouldn't be interested. Sir, I am in need of assistance!~Fixerbot.jpg 07:08, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

It doesn't matter what Swiss Ninja said, it's a LAW. And blocking IPs from editing is for lazy admins. Look at RC, there's still vandalism --PenBlooeR 15:24, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

And I had to do *5* reverts SN didn't do. SN is still being cheap, and we can't dol out the money for someone to monitor the wiki 24/7. Seriously. Andrew (It is he who makes the butter fly) 20:33, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
There are 10 admins. Only 2 or 3 of them are active. --PenBlooeR 21:10, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

Andrew: i apologize; i was in a rush, i had to go to school, and i was on the iTouch and had no time. I would have done 'em. Honest.

Penblooer: I dont follow that rule since:

  1. 1: it's only an American law. The internet is global. Why should everyone else be bound to a stupid American Law PASSED IN 1998?
  2. 2: no one listened to that law. I joined when i was 12 in 2009. Explorer was way under 12 when he joined. Same with HF. Feey joined when he was 12. Flywish joined when he was 12, i think...Chibi joined when she was 11.....

Bcause the CPWN is hosted in the US. I don't care about that either, but some staffers seem to care about it a lot --PenBlooeR 14:56, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

Well, none of them have really done anything about it. --Swiss Ninja Signature.png User Talk SN.png 15:06, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
