- Protocol is DEAD
- Staff Wiki is STAFF-ONLY
- PT CPW is ACTIVE
Shops is about as active as the CPW btw, certainly not dead. --User:EDFan12345 16:05, 18 December 2016 (UTC)
I guess we're in the same boat then. I've been feeling like quitting myself the past few weeks or wishing I could've joined a whole lot earlier when activity was higher. This wiki has changed lots ever since I first visited. Everything seems to be about politics rather than fun these days. Fights springing up, people teasing each other just because they can or whatever the case may be which is starting to drive me nuts. The amount of edits per day (in my opinion) seems really low sometimes being just a few per day which gives me the impression that barely anyone edits here. 2016 for the Fanon Wiki I'm sure most of us can agree was crappy and just didn't end well at all, sadly, and I too wish next year's gonna be way better. All attempts at uniting this site seems to be failing dismally just because people don't like each other no matter what. The only reason I'm still here is because I just can't think of this place with me not being here at all. --Wikipenguino (talk • contribs • articles) Merry Christmas!
- And I am not about war and death. I only do fighting for fun. And the characters in my series don't die of war, they die peacefully. Thanks for reminding me, though (no sarcasm, I iz serious as serious LOLCAT) --

Hi.
--Mr Cow2 (talk) 16:20, 18 December 2016 (UTC)
Look, just because we don't edit anymore doesn't mean this wiki is dying. Others like CK, Penstubal, EDFan12345, and I mostly spend our time on IRC, and even if they don't, will check the wiki's recent changes page often. It's not that we quit or are inactive, we just don't know what to edit. Hopefully you guys understand that and won't quit. I think you guys should visit IRC at least once so you can see the names of some users who haven't edited here I ages. --Brant (talk) 16:47, 18 December 2016 (UTC)
idea?[edit]
I was thinking, even though we may get blocked, there are still editors on the wikia version of this site that we could convince to help us revive this wiki. I know that pretty much nobody cares about that place anymore, but it seems to me that it's one of the few things that we can do at this point. --Wikipenguino (talk • contribs • articles) Merry Christmas!

- Well, you can count me out of that idea, not because I don't approve of it, but because I'm already banned for life on there. --Mr Cow2 (talk) 16:44, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

We are the only ones remaining on the island. Next year is likely the final year for our wiki, and I suggest we celebrate all the good times we had by doing a special or sth while all of us are still here. They all know they don't have much time left, and prepare for the inevitable... 11 survivors and their creations, and one traitor. They are the final penguins."

Will the creations be faithful and help them, or will the evil think it is their chance? Yes, as the infamous Philipulis shouted when a large meteorite was dangerously close to Antarctica, 'The end of the world is nigh! There will be I Love You Flu, famine and Penguinpox! - I intended to write Operation Improbable with help from other users willing to join which I imagined was going to this epic EPF Agents vs. villains where the villains team up and our characters go on to stop them and travel to different places and encounter all sorts of dangers, randomness, fun 'n all. But with what little time we may have left before this place falls, I'm 25% sure it's not going to happen...is anybody interested in a one possibly last adventure? --Wikipenguino (talk • contribs • articles) Merry Christmas!

Man, has it already been four years since the last time a blog like this has happened? To think that we were worrying about activity in 2012 but still held up until now.
Personally, I don't think it's as bad as the above. Although it is true that we've lost some of our big editors, as Brant has mentioned, a lot of us still stick around on IRC and such or check RC daily.
I suppose the essence of my inactivity would simply be creative freedom. Have I grown out of writing stories about penguins? Possibly. Maybe making stories about humanoid characters just feels more, for lack of better word, correct. But this wiki has always been part of why I'm still going. As I told Fooly, I really can't imagine myself without this site anymore. And I doubt I'll have to think about it yet.
If we've went through this before, we can do it again. Don't give up hope. ULSK12 • Talk • Contribs • BATCHIRIMINAAAAAA

- It's not the same as in 2012. In 2012, Club Penguin was still a thriving game. We were still getting some new users, and the activity of other wikis on the network was also really good. Club Penguin Wiki itself is now dying, Club Penguin Shops only exists to tease us as it seems and Club Penguin Fanon indeed is the last wiki standing. The question is: for how long? How long till either the wiki loses all its users, or Seahorse pulls the plug on the whole site? --Penstubal (Talk) (Edits) 22:52, 24 December 2016 (UTC)

In the meantime, guys, please don't quit, we need help and users more than ever to try and save this wiki as it's probably on the verge of death. Don't feel depressed or the urge to leave because you think nobody here likes you or because you think you're weird. I trust that all of us still care or if not, at least most of us. --Wikipenguino (talk • contribs • articles) Merry Christmas!

By the way, I would like to highlight, that I check this wiki out every day and see what's going on. I am really active on IRC and really active with "wiki politics", but I am running out of ideas for what to write. I don't plan on quitting any time soon though --Penstubal (Talk) (Edits) 22:55, 24 December 2016 (UTC)
- Mostly the same on my end. I've re-thought my decision to possibly quit though this aura of demotivation seems to be hanging over us all. Everyone seems to be running out of fresh new ideas which prevents us from editing, which lowers the amount of edits per day, instead motivating people to think this place is dead and quit, but this is just my theory anyway. For those who possibly think that everyone else is inactive or whatever, as Brant said before, that's not true, and you can usually find users such as me who are usually on the IRC. Maybe the lack of communication as mentioned earlier is causing all this? I feel that we should all hop onto the IRC and sort things out. --Wikipenguino (talk • contribs • articles) Merry Christmas!

It seems very well so the wiki will be dying. But, I will hang on the boat in the storming sea, until the boat hits a sudden decrease iceberg covered in (PUN ALERT) thousands of blue blistering barnacles in a thundering typhoon (sorry, bad pun) and begin to sink like the Titanic into the emerald depths of the database, only to be inhabited by Google Waves. If you get what I mean. By the way, HP and Shark have made two or three videos advertising the CPW Network, using the Shops Wiki and the main wiki, but I wonder if the videos actually work. - When the iceberg is in sight, we should try and make a The Spitfire-type story, as Penstubal recommended, as a tribute for all who edited here, even for all the long-gone penguins who made an impact here. I always went on the wiki as soon as I could get on it. Penguinpuffdude

In recent years this has seemed quite inevitable. TZ's other post reminded me that it's not just the Fanon that has been on a decline, it's also been Club Penguin itself. A new generation of children have began playing it and are very different to the recently retired crop of users that we've had. It's a difficult task to attract new users (trust me, we have tried), let alone "replace" those users. This change really sucks, and it's definitely demotivating. I would be around more often if I could but my current circumstances bar me from dedicating time to the Wiki, let alone IRC. Along with that I agree with Brant's point of "we just don't know what to edit" (and what SK and Penstubal added on to that). In terms of my own attitude, I don't see myself quitting right now. The attachment I have with this Wiki is too large to give it up, but besides that... the lack of motivation and ideas can't be helped. Sorry for extending the pessimism, but I felt like saying something. Also sorry to the newer users that didn't get to see the Wiki at its brilliant peak, it truly was something great. What do we do now? I can't say anything for sure. :( -- ¤ (User page!) (Talk page.) 23:54, 25 December 2016 (UTC)
- ^ very true, Club Penguin itself hasn't been helping us either especially with the changes it's been making and the declining popularity. However, we can't let the demotivation consume us, we have to keep this place alive somehow. Like Star said, if we did it before, we can do it again. Does anyone know of any place where we can get new users or a way to get them to join? --Wikipenguino (talk • contribs • articles) Merry Christmas!

I check the RC every day, I just haven't been editing as much lately because I've been busy, and like many I don't have as much inspiration as I used to. I'd love to write some of the stories I've thought of over the years, and I might work on those sometime. CKSysop/BOBmaster? 10:28, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
Something[edit]
Club Penguin Island is a lie, there is only Club Penguin.
Through Club Penguin, users gain ideas.
Through ideas, CPFW gains edits.
Through edits, CPFW gains articles.
Through articles and edits, the wiki stays alive.
Club Penguin shall save CPFW.

Proposals?[edit]
Seems like most of us lack any creative juice to contribute to the Wiki. Is there any sort of articles that we haven't created? Could there be an idea or two that are so original that it inspires all of us to edit? If there was I think it would gather us all together, perhaps make the community more lively and united and see way more edits in that Recent Changes. Don't think this is an easy task, but any ideas could give us a start and be able to lead to somewhere. -- ¤ (User page!) (Talk page.)
Here's a list of parodies not in the database yet (UPDATES EVERY TIME I THINK OF ONE, FEEL FREE TO UPDATE) - All characters (except Ping-Ping) in the Tintin universe, The Beatles, Something (parody is Some Wiki), Nyan Cat (I think), Ladybird books, origami, champagne and Snow Ninja.PROJECT WILL BE BEGUN ONCE WE GET MORE USERS

- List of UN-created articles which are not parodies of something (FEEL FREE TO EXAND) - Orbey, etc

I don't think parodies should be a priority to be honest, since it's the opposite of originality, unless you come up with creative parodies like TurtleShroom used to. Most, if not all parodies made in the past few years have been just copy/pasted things with the same name except a few letters changed (which stinks). If you wanted to incorporate characters from elsewhere into this universe/wiki, the Multiverse is still a thing, so maybe more stories could be written utilizing it (with Star as a key adviser/helper since he's the Multiverse expert). CKSysop/BOBmaster? 10:28, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
Good point, and our creativeness is running out. My parodies are all hand-written, nothing copied and pasted. The users who did the copy/paste trick must have been plagiarizing from somewhere. Penguinpuffdude I'm in the garage, with my Mabel detector... 03:33, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
Perhaps if anybody has ideas, parodies, articles, stories or projects they're planning to use or create in the future "when the time is right", they should all be done now. Any plans for future articles (if you have any) should be started now, (as the wiki may very well be on the verge of falling off a tightrope into the pit of death) and maybe, that can rekindle the recent changes and motivate others to edit again? --Wikipenguino (talk • contribs • articles) Merry Christmas!

A staff member perspective[edit]
It's been a while since I've paid attention to the CPWN, and boy there have been a lot of changes! Take this as my own view on the issue, it doesn't represent staff as a whole. This could easily become its own page, but I'll try my best to keep it concise.
The CPWN is 6 years old. I personally started on the CPWN when I was 12. This was a project started to move away from Wikia's new skin and control over communities. Those changes are still present to this day.
Now, why aren't staff as active as you may like?
- Disinterest: Hat Pop is one of the few active members of staff, with select others occasionally making their presence known (like I am doing today). On top of this, the CPWN does not have a lot of visitors.
- Age: As far as I know, I was the youngest staff member. I'm now 18, looking to enter Georgia Tech, and started working on Minecraft projects. Worrying about a game that seems to have a shrinking fan base doesn't interest us very much.
- Apathy: These two factors compound to form the greater reason for our disinterest: apathy. If an issue crops up, we're unlikely to invest the time in a proper resolution.
When I looked at this issue last year, it was my hope that the Archives wiki would at least be a useful part of the CPWN's legacy. Things are increasingly looking bleak for the whole CPWN, with the sole exceptions of Fanon, the Portuguese CPW and Shops, and even those might die at any moment.
My opinion may not be as useful as the others as I am technically a technical staff member, but I think this will be useful. I still have access to the server the CPWN runs on, but do not have any other access. I'm surprised the wiki is still running, for that matter.
I have very little power to do much: it's not going to be possible for me to get ownership over the domains transferred to somebody interested in running things properly, nor would do I have the power to move our current infrastructure to a place where it'd get proper attention. If there is interest in the community, I can try to improve the situation in any way I can, but the community would have to decide on the proper course of action (which would probably involve moving away from CPWN infrastructure).
Thanks for taking the time to read my wall of text.
