Ventides (English: /'vintaɪdz/, Latin: /ven'tides/) is the capital and largest city of Candvia with around 3,100,000 penguins. It is the biggest and most important political, commercial, financial and cultural center in the country and of the wider region. It is situated on the Tacitae river, which is the largest river in the entire country. Ventides is home to 13.4% of the country's population.
The city was founded in the 4rg century AD by a tribe called Noceni and the Noceni named the city after the pleasant winds that were blowing in the city's direction (hence the name Ventides - ventus in Latin means wind). In the 7th century AD this small city was raided by Centic tribes, who occupied the city as well as the name the Noceni used and called the city Ventides (Old Candvian Latin: Wŷnddēthêšē). The city was quickly inhabited by the Cents and by the 13th century had around 500,000 citizens.
The Great Fire of Ventides happened in 1234 and lasted for several weeks before finally being put out. 47% of the city's population was lost and it was the most tragic time in history of the city. This, however, turned out not to be all that bad as the city's architecture was very old and the sewage system was terribly mismanaged and unorganized, so the citizens that survived, with support from the Candvian government, helped rebuild the city and by 1276 the city was rebuilt and more successful, organized and beautiful than ever before.
The city's population grew back and by year 1400 the population was 500,000 once again. By 1600 the city would reach a population of over 1,000,000 and would continue to expand in all directions it could. This proved to be a challenge later on due to Wintide's position the Paeninsula Capituli (Capital Peninsula) and next to the Sinus Coralliorum (Coral Bay). The Candvian royal family also decided to move to Ventides and live near the city center, making it an even more important city.
The city reached 2,500,000 citizens in 1987. By then, it had already become a large fashion, music and arts hub and a city in a very important strategic and trade position. It is one of the most visited cities in Antarctica due to its unique renaissance and baroque architecture.
There are multiple ways to get around the city, such as by tram, by trolleybus, by car, by bus or by metro. The metro is, behind the car, the most used of all these modes of transportation. There are hundreds of commuters every single day. The metro is small, however, as it is fairly new - it is from the early 2000s and is currently being expanded to include 2 more lines as well as to expand the current ones.
- This is one of the largest and most important ports in Antarctica and thousands of ships dock there and embark from there each year, delivering over 5000 crates of cargo each year.
- The city is starting to have a pollution problem and measures are being taken to prevent the city from being too polluted.
