Victoria Floss is a twenty-one year-old student and blogger at the University of South Pole City. Victoria isn't as vain as she seems, as she's a rather humble penguin and tends to help others as much as she can. She loves to draw but isn't very good at it, as most of her art turn out quite silly looking, but she refuses to give up. She's hoping to major in art and design and Political Sciences. She's best friends and roommates with Anne Yeager and often helps her illustrate pictures for her novels and books. She had had a crush on Anne since she was in high school, and while this sometimes causes problems, she manages to put their friendship first and manage through them.

Background[edit]

Early Life[edit]

Victoria was born into the well off Floss family. The Floss family had a lineage that went back decades, and were very proud of their accomplishments and wealth. Her parents wanted many children, and Victoria was the second of six. Because her parents were very busy Victoria and her older brother, Victor was tasked with taking care of her siblings. Because of this Victoria became very strict, and responsible with her life.

Victoria's parents wanted to best for their children. They enrolled Victoria into many classes outside of her public education to become skilled in secondary languages, sports, music, and cooking, and other talents. Her parents would demand that she ace all her activities, and would destroy her toys, artwork, and other things she owned or created, if they did not find it satisfactory. Victoria would always hide her pictures she sketched in fear of her parents finding them and destroying them if she didn't do well.

Because of (or perhaps despite) the extremely strict upbringing, Victoria mastered many music instruments, learned several languages, became the top athlete in her school, and achieved the highest grades of her classmates. Her parents also taught her to make friends with people like her, and she became very popular at her school. Many penguins respected her because she was charismatic and good at everything. She took psychology lessons to manipulate the students (which also were helpful in managing her younger siblings). However, Victoria would often abuse her social power in the classroom, and if someone offended her she'd spread rumors to destroy their reputation. Eventually she garnered several enemies who were outcast due to her hand.

One day, she met a new student named Anne Yeager. She found out that Anne was a massive pin collector, and possibly better than Victoria herself. Victoria became incredibly jealous that Anne was better at her at this subject and the two became rivals for the next few years. Victoria tried to ruin Anne's reputation, but Anne would always keep a positive attitude and made friends with Victoria's other enemies.

Victoria would try to rub her talents into Anne's face. Anne didn't care because she knew that she shouldn't worry about being best at everything, because there would always be someone better. Victoria was puzzled how Anne could think like that and secretly admired Anne's humility and happiness, even if she didn't want to admit it.

Teenage Years[edit]

Victoria's rivalry with Anne continued until 8th grade. Anne decided that the students put enough with Victoria's haughtiness and decided to run against her for class president. Anne was gaining more and more support as Victoria's supporters dwindled due to seeing her as a manipulator. Anne's younger brother, Alex helped her with making posters, which were well drawn, unlike Victoria's pictures, as her art skills haven't improved since she was a young child. Victoria was not planning to lose to her rival, so she did what she did and spread lies and rumors about Anne. Unfortunately Middle School was more strict in enforcing anti-bullying rules, and Victoria was disqualified.

Victoria's parents were very disappointed in her for losing and getting caught lying (but not actually lying). They dug up a sketckbook she made for several years from its hiding place and destroyed it to show their shame in her. Victoria went berserk and had a meltdown in front of them. Her parents took her to a mental hospital where she remained for a year. She talked to her therapist about how her parents always told her to be the best in everything, and how Anne, someone who didn't care about being the greatest at everything beat her in the election. The therapist told Victoria's parents that they were abusive to her and shouldn't push her too hard. Her parents reluctantly agreed as they were strict but felt like the mental health of their daughter was important. Victoria ultimately decided that Anne was right in not worrying about being the best.

High School and Unrequited Romance[edit]

Despite spending a year in a mental hospital, Victoria didn't need to be held back a grade as she passed the entrance exams. Victoria had a hard time fitting in. Many of the "popular" kids at the school knew about her issues and did not want to associate with her. However, many of the unpopular kids remembered how Victoria treated them in the past and still did not wish to talk with them.

Anne felt sorry for Victoria, feeling partially responsible for her meltdown, and talked with her. Victoria told her about how her parents pushed her into being the greatest, how they would destroy her artwork, and how she had to take care of her siblings. Anne understood where Victoria was coming from fairly well and the two bonded. Anne shared storied about her annoying sibling, who she felt was sometimes like having several younger siblings. Victoria and Anne became best friends.

The students saw Victoria and Anne become friends despite previously being fierce rivals and accepted that Victoria has truly changed and started to associate with her again. Victoria appreciated everything Anne had taught and done for her and felt lucky to be her best friend. However, as time went on Victoria wanted to be more than just a friend to Anne, and wanted her as a romantic interest. She was incredibly reluctant to tell Anne this. She was afraid of being rejected, and did not want their friendship to become awkward or shaky if Anne found out.

Victoria graduated high school with honors. Well she got one "B", but it didn't bother her too much.

College[edit]

Never trust your best friend's brother.

Against her parents wishes, Victoria decided to major in Art (a useless degree they called it). Victoria's paintings were not very well, but she managed to get passing grades. Victoria and Anne were roommates and Victoria would help draw pictures for Anne.

During this time Anne started dating Johnathan Rose. Victoria felt heartbroken but eventually she decided that this was probably for the best. However the sight of Anne and Johnathan together pained her so she deleted Anne off her social network and moved to a different place, saying she needed some time away. Anne missed her best friend, so after a few months Victoria moved back with her.

She tried to get to know Johnathan more to see if he'd make Anne happy, but didn't get much results. He was shy and quiet around her and didn't interact much. However he made Anne happy and Victoria was satisfied.

One day Anne's younger brother, Alex asked Victoria out for the prom. She thought it was kind of cute but wasn't interested. Anne told Victoria that Alex wouldn't stop bugging her so she should go to the prom with Alex. During this time Alex was trying to impress Victoria and prove that he "loved" her. Victoria was unimpressed and told him that he only likes her be a use she is pretty but doesn't actually love her. She began to explain what it truly means to love someone and began to describe her relationship with Anne. This lead Alex to deduce that Victoria had a crush on Anne and threatened to tell Anne if she didn't go to the prom with him. Not wanting to let anything happen she went to the prom and had a horrible time with Alex.

Even though Victoria didn't know Johnathan well she was impacted by his death through Anne. Anne became a much, different person after John's death. Victoria tried her best to make Anne feel better and let her know she'd be there for her. Victoria admitted her feelings for Anne but stated that Anne needs a best friend and she's willing to be one for Anne forever. Anne responded saying she "had suspicions" of Victoria's feelings and appreciates her friendship.

The two are still friends to this day, and Victoria hopes that Anne would someday become as happy as she was before Johnathan's death.
