"What's the Word?" is a song by Terrain rapper DJ Crow. It is track 2 from his fifth album In Search of Lost Time (2017), becoming one of the many non-single songs to chart and become popular.
It contains guest appearances from Colossal Records rapper Sink and Antarctican singer Delaine. Both play characters that introduce the story.
Produced by Thunder Bay and DJ Crow, the song consists of jazz rap elements and is the introductory song to the story of the album.
Background[edit]
The song title is a rhetorical question in which "Word" means any subject matter. Crow bounces off this line by line by name-dropping historical and worldy events and mentioning self-identity related ideas. This all ties in with the theme of Act One of the album which focuses on Crow trying to remember who he is and what is going on.
