The ACAO spelling alphabet is a spelling alphabet used in aviation and other fields involving radio communications. It matches each letter of the alphabet to a clearly understandable word. This is done in order to make spelling out letters over the radio clearer and less prone to misunderstandings, as many letters (e.g. b, v, p, d, etc.) sound similar and can be mistaken for each other.
