A Ransom is an EPF story, about the Agent Natalya Tvarkov, when terrifying news strikes the heart of the agency: all of the division leaders were kidnapped, and the terrorist group TTNM is demanding ransom. Will this end smoothly? Or will all of them be killed?
Prologue: To My Dearest Daughter[edit]
Agent Rogue Tvarkov silently sits in her desk, silently writing a letter to her young daughter: Natalya.
To my dearest daughter,
This is the darkest hour of the EPF, the bad guys are after me and my fellow leaders, as well as the Director, whose identity, you will know soon. Evil looks down at us evilly, the time has come for you to get your inheritance from me, I fear I may never come back to care for you and your brother.
Do you remember my story before about my mission that made me go international? Where I had to capture or kill terrorists from the TTNM? Well, let's say came back and is threatening me, fellow leaders and Director. As Lieutenant General, I want you take my position while I'm out, just in case. But if I die, make this job permanent. I pray that I didn't add weight in your shoulders, did I? Well, I'm afraid you can't do anything about it. I only ask you one thing: lead this division with your all. Just like me, and never forget that I'll always be there, knowing your moves and stuff, but of course, I keep my boundaries.
I love you!
Your mother, Agent General Rogue Alyssa "Everest" Tvarkov
Rogue placed down her pen, she had to use all of her strength to write that simple letter, but still, it terrifies her to the core of her bones. She knows she may not be back.
Back before my daughter turns 15 in a month.
"I am a terrible mother." she muttered silently to herself. Being a General at the same time, the mother of two Lieutenant Generals from two different divisions of the best agency of Antarctica, she gets double the work.
Double the work... the thought crossed her mind before she can say it, It'll be the death of me some...
She heard her Spy Phone beep rapidly. She quickly stopped whatever on earth she was doing and grabbed her spy phone. She immediately read the message.
"All Generals are called to meet at usual place. This maybe the final one... Gary." she murmured, as she took out her old green hooded cloak.
"So far, so good" she mutters as she folds her letter and seals it with the family crest: a shield with two swords making an X figure behind it, in the shield, the true emblem of the family was marked in it: a double headed snake. She always wondered why a snake, but she never found her answer. She places the letter in her desk, and ensures that she leaves her gift to her Natalya beside it, wrapped in a tiny silver box, with a red ribbon on it.
"I'll see you soon, Natalya" she mutters as she closes her office door one last time.
At the same time, General Jason Laurenson was busily writing his letter to his son, Vladimir. No matter how much he wanted to call the boy years ago Erik, Rogue back then insisted that they be Russian names. Of course, he knew Rogue long enough that when she makes a decision, she sticks with it. Sighing, he writes with jittery hands a letter.
To my son Vladimir,
Back then, I wanted to call you Erik, but of course, your mother was so stubborn, she forced me to name you Vladimir. Though your second name was Erik, of course. Your mother isn't that cold, and never will be. But this isn't why I write to you this letter, it is because of a more serious matter.
Remember when your mother went on a mission, where she killed and captured terrorists from the TTNM? I think you remember this because it was your favorite story your mother tells you. But that's not important right now, I just want to say, that this may be the last time I communicate with you, the TTNM came back and is planning to get me, your mother, the other division Generals, and the Director. All I want to say, is that with your current rank as Lieutenant General, you need to take charge while I'm out. I'm sorry to say this, but you don't have a choice.
This is all I have to say. And finally, happy birthday.
Your loving father,
Agent General Jason Antonio "Crash" Laurenson
He dreaded this day, of all the days, this one. He was going to go home that day with his family, eat together, and have fun. It was a Thursday after all, their favorite day besides the weekends and holidays. He never wanted this to happen. He may never come back.
Back before my son turns 15 in a month.
He ruffles his spiky hair wildly. He hated how this day would end: they would lose their chance. They were gonna teleport all the way to Rusca to watch the circus open, all of them would go, and have fun and bond. But this time, they would miss it.
"Miss it. Because of a stupid terrorist organization. I thought Rogue had them off the grid for years!" he grumbled.
"Or were they?"
He turns to see Rogue by the door, holding her cloak in her right flipper and putting her left flipper on her hip. "Crash, never underestimate an Anti-Terrorism agent. Scratch that, never underestimate the General MORE." she says, as she makes her way to him.
"Rogue, how long were you there?" he asked.
"A while, long enough to hear you say that the TTNM was out of my way for years" she said.
"Was it?" he asked, wanting to know if he was right.
"Sadly," she said, shaking her head in despair, "They weren't. They managed to connect with other terrorists who were in the wanted list, and they managed to continue the bidding. By now, most of those who are in the wanted list are TTNM's!"
"That's... terrible." Jason said "And I thought my job was hard enough."
"Hard enough? Crash, you only do reconnaissance. How hard can that be!?" Rogue cried.
"How hard can it be? Oh it's hard, I tell you! I have to keep myself from being caught. And if I do, it's bye-bye spying, hello interrogation and torture!" he yelled.
Both were silent for a while when Rogue perked up.
"Did you read your spy phone?" she asked.
"N-no. Why?" he asked, checking his spy phone "Oh."
"Come on. We have to move. Now."
Somewhere in the depths of the EPF agency, a girl with short red curly hair ran through the halls of the agency, bumping some agents and apologizing quickly in Russian.
"Hey!"
"Izvinite!"
"Ah!"
"Izvinite!"
She ran and finally slowed to a quick pace as she reached her destination: the Recon Division, and walks straight into a room marked in gold "Lieutenant General".
"Vladimir." she said in a thick Russian accent.
The boy with brown curly hair stopped writing and looked up from his oak desk
"Natalya." he says, with the same accent.
"All of the Lieutenant Generals are called for a meeting in..." she pauses to lower her voice to a whisper "...the usual area."
He stops tapping his desk and looks at his twin, "Really?"
Her hand twitches, as if ready to slap him, "Of course! I would be an idiot if I just went here for nothing!"
"Kiddos."
The two turn to see their mother and father, their father having a flipper around their mother's shoulder.
"We will be going to a General's meeting. You two take charge, 'kay?" Jason says, while Rogue nods to ensure them.
"Anything to do?" Vladimir asks, wanting to get a mini operation from his father-boss.
"Nothing. If we're not yet back in 24 hours, both of you should go to our rooms." Rogue said.
"Why?" Natalya asks, curious.
"Because we have further instructions there." Rogue said, "But for now, you are forbidden to go anywhere near our offices. Until... 24 hours is up."
"Fine." the twins sighed.
"Good. Don't forget the 3R's!" Jason adds.
"Okay!" both of them say.
Be resourceful, be remarkable, and be ready... they both think, then look at each other, smiling. Both can read each other's thoughts because of their closeness, and communicate with it from far distances. Their parents were surprised when they found out.
"See you guys!" the parents said in chorus before disappearing in the hallways.
"Well, what now?" Vladimir says as he puts down his pen and begin to pace in his office.
"We could... go to the meeting." Natalya said.
"Oh... right!" he said and dashed to the specific area of the agency: 3rd floor, 4th corridor, 3rd room to the left.
The Generals made their way outside the agency, to a back alley of the Pizza Parlor that leads to the Forest.
"Ah. Rogue and Jason, you're here"
They saw Gary, Dot, Jet, Rookie, the Director and Valerie.
"Fellow Generals." Gary began, "We have terrible news."
"Herbert brought an army of polar bears to CP?!" Rookie yelled.
"Everyone stared at him "No... 6 of our fellow generals gone MIA." the Director said.
All the others looked at each other with worry.
"We need to go into hiding, you may go in pairs... or you may go alone." Gary said.
They all paired up. Rookie with Valerie, Gary with the Director, Jet with Dot, and Jason with Rogue.
"O...kay. So we decided to pair..." Dot said.
"Yeah, I know right?" Valerie said, rolling her eyes.
"Well... I would like to say... goodbye." Gary said, held the Director by the waist, and teleported her with him to some country in Antarctica.
"Well, see you all... soon." Jet said as he carried Dot with him as he turned on his jet pack and soar into the sky.
"Bye guys!" Rookie said as he followed Valerie to the Pizza Parlor. All that was left were both Rogue and Jason.
"So..." Rogue said, crossing her arms as she looks at her husband. "Where do we go now?"
Jason shifted his foot uneasily "You should know, I'm not the smartest one in the family."
"Have you forgot your agent training? Hide!" she said as she walked with him quickly out of the alley. Suddenly a white cloth covers her beak as she screams for help. But everything begins to darken as she was released from the clutches, falling straight to the ground. She could see Jason fend them off, until he was knocked out cold. That was all she saw before she blacked out.
Chapter 1: The 24 Hours[edit]
24 hours later
"Hmm..." Natalya hummed, as she walked to her mother's office. "What would she order me to do...?"
She took out her ID and scanned her ID in her mother's lock.
"Agent identified. Welcome, Agent Natalya!" said a robotic voice as her mother's office door opened.
"Humph..." Natalya said as she went in.
"A letter? And a gift?" she said as she opened her letter. Her eyes scanned the letter quickly "Oh my..."
She looked at the small box, and opened it, a necklace with the Tvarkov family crest in it.
"Happy birthday, my dear Lieutenant General!" was engraved on the box.
Natalya gasped and wore it.
"Nat! Did you see Dad's letter?!" Vladimir yelled into her earpiece.
"I'm not deaf, you idiot!" she yelled back, attracting attention with the other agents, "Plus, I got a letter from Mom!"
"Do you know what this means?!" Vladimir said, failing miserably to sound blase.
"What?" Natalya asked.
"3... 2... 1..." he counted down, then a transmission from the private channel of all Lieutenant Generals rang out.
"All Lieutenant Generals are called for a meeting in the meeting area NOW!" ordered Tactical Lieutenant General Tyler Hadixson.
"Woah, how did you know?" Natalya said, turning to Vladimir.
"I just guessed, that's all..." he shrugged.
All of them ran as fast as their feet could take them. Then when all of them ran to the door, all 9 of them smacked into each other.
KERBLANG!
"Ow!" moaned Vladimir, who rubbed his head.
"Tell me about it." Communications Lieutenant General Ingrid Chintzovy moaned.
"Let's just go in for Benny's sake..." Natalya said as she opened the door. Tactical Lt. Gen. Tyler Hadixson, Special Operations Lt. Gen. Merida Young and Emergency Response Lt. Gen. Cody Terrinscene all sat there.
"Were we late?" Ingrid asked.
The meeting room was all black, with only a light in the middle to illuminate the room. There were a bunch of computers, in the middle one, it was tracking down signals of phones, and a huge screen in front of the conference table in the middle had photos of the Generals and their status.
"Sit down, guys." Tyler said.
"Attendance!" yelled Cody.
Everyone stood up and yelled out their division, rank and name.
"Alright, fellow Lieutenant Generals" Tyler began. "Our Generals have been captured!"
All of them nodded at each other.
"So, we're left with ourselves then" Cacee from the Technical Division said.
"You're sure right 'bout that, Sheila" Ethan from the Special Forces Division said.
"He's from Australia." Kate from the Stealth Division whispered to Ingrid.
Natalya shifted uncomfortably on her seat, while her brother tried his best not to slap those two with fish.
"Hm... why are the twins silent?" Mark from the International Affairs snarled.
"Hey! Back off! Don't hurt the girl's feelings!" Tyler snapped at Mark, who was snickering with the other leaders.
"Ooh! You have a crush on her, no?" Jazz from the Intelligence Team teased.
Natalya tried not to scream at her fellow Lieutenant Generals. By now, every operation in the history of the EPF was part of the Academy curriculum when she went in, and a huge factor of it was Operation Blackout, for the catastrophic operation sent the agency into ruins years ago, and her mother was a huge factor in this. By now, all recruits know her mother as the agent who became the Director temporarily. Speaking of which...
"Hey, hey guys? Let's not mess with Natalya, please? Remember, she is the daughter of the agent who was once the temporary Director." Terry from the Foreign Relations Division said to his fellows, who only laughed.
"Oh, Terry. Can't you ever let her be? She's only a Ruscan, nothing important and such." Jazz said. Natalya was about to cry when a transmission went through.
"Hello? Can anyone here me? Hello?" it was Gary.
"Gary? Oh my Benny, Gary! You're alive?" Cacee yelled. By now everyone stood up in attentiveness.
"Of course I am, Cacee." Gary said.
"Wait, how can you contact us?" Tyler asked.
"We found out that Rogue still had her earpiece. So we contacted you guys over there." he explained.
"Cacee-" Tyler was about to give orders until she interrupted.
"Already on it." she said as she traced the call with her computer.
"Wait, what happened to my... I mean, our mother?" Vladimir said.
"Son, this is Crash. You're mother is unconscious, unfortunately, she hasn't woken up." Jason said. Natalya was so surprised, she sat down.
"I heard a thud. What happened?" Jason added.
"Natalya, sir. She sat down." Tyler said.
"Oh.... ooh... well, okay." Jason said. Suddenly, Rookie's scream made Jason drop the call.
"Oh great, I was already pinpointing their location." Cacee said, looking up her computer in anger.
Natalya was still quiet, My mother, unconscious? she thought to herself, But... but she escaped death before!
"Natalya, I can hear what you're saying."
She turned and looked at her brother, Vladimir.
"Vlad, don't." she said. He growled quietly, he hated being called Vlad, but for once, he allowed his family to call him so.
"Anyway, Cacee what did ye get? More importantly, what's the plan?" Natalya said, taking over the situation.
"I've tracked them somewhere in Snowzerland, for all we know." Cacee said.
"There is something wrong," Tyler said "But first, we need a Director to lead us. Both the Director and the Chief General are MIA, so it is among the Generals. But since the Generals are also MIA... yeah. We really do need a Director."
"Yeah! A Director!" Ingrid said.
"And I nominate you, Sheila." Ethan said, pointing at Natalya.
"What? Seriously?" Natalya said in shock.
"Yeah, your attitude is like your Mom's!" Jazz said.
"Come on, you'll be an awesome Director." Vladimir said.
There was silence as everyone waited for Natalya's decision. Her words made everyone grin.
"This is my obligation, and I will be more than glad to accept this."
Word spread, and soon everyone knew that their Director at the moment is Natalya Tvarkov. It managed to get the attention of the continent's media, and soon media men crowded the Everyday Phoning Facility in Club Penguin. Meanwhile, somewhere in Snowzerland, the Generals were contained.
"Ugh... my head..." Rogue awoke from her deep sleep.
"Rogue!" she was soon enveloped by Jason.
"Jason... don't.... please.... don't let.... go..." she said, her headache worsening.
"Oh, sorry." he said as he settled her on his lap.
"G, how long was I out?" she moaned.
"Ah, two or three days, in approximate." he said.
"Crap." she said.
"We aren't allowed to have watches, spy phones or anything to help us now the time or day." The Director explained. They were in a room with no windows, and food only came through a small slit through the door.
"How do you think the twins are?" Jason asked.
"How should I know?" Rogue retorted through her headache. Then a bang came from the door: either food or something. It was food and a newspaper: the Club Penguin Times. Rogue just stared at the headline while the others ate.
"Aren't you going to eat?" Gary asked.
"I can go half a year without food. I'll just have some water..." she said, not leaving her gaze from the newspaper.
"What'cha looking at?" Rookie asked when he was done eating. She showed all of them the headline and they gasped.
Who is EPF Director Natalya Tvarkov?
Chapter 2: Near Assassination[edit]
Natalya was busy buying some new clothes. With Tyler to help her, she felt safe with him.
"What about this?" she pulled out a blue summer dress from a rack and placed it before her. He looked at her for a while, then nodded. He wore a red sweater with yellow stripes on the shoulders, denim pants and dark blue sneakers. She smiled and placed it in the basket she happened to have.
"Thanks. For accompanying me." Natalya grinned. Tyler grinned back.
"Just saving your butt." he said. She laughed, and he lowered his shoulders in relief. Her laugh always calmed him down, but she never knew.
"Well, I guess I'm done..." Natalya said, looking at the stack of clothes she was already clutching, "I mean, I don't want to burden you with my things."
"Bah, it's fine!" Tyler said.
Just before she could speak, the glass shattered as bullets pierced it. The two yelped and got down immediately, shielding themselves from glass and any other debris. After, they took out their guns and pointed it to whatever was outside. They saw a man running away.
"Great. He got away." Natalya sighed.
"As long as you're still alive, Nat." Tyler said, looking at her, "You okay?"
"Of course I'm alright!" Natalya said, "Now, why're you being overprotective of me?"
"Because if I am not, your brother would have my hind." Tyler chuckled.
"Oh." Natalya said.
