Air Culldrome is the flag carrier airline for the Culldrome Isles and its territories. It is also the largest operating airline in the Culldrome region, having a 65% share of airline operations in the area.

History[edit]

Early History[edit]

Air Culldrome was founded on May 24 1972. It was the beginning of the oil powered era in the Culldrome Isles. Oil was recently discovered in the nation, opening up a window to modern transport. For Culldrome to thrive, it was decided that an airline would be necessary, thus Air Culldrome was founded. The original fleet consisted of 2 brand new Snowing 707-120Bs. The two operated daily between Culldrome International Airport and Cody Maverick Regional Airport. This service quickly transported passengers in and out of the Culldrome Isles.

By 1975, Air Culldrome had upturned a profit of 120% compared to previous years. Money in hand, the airline purchased a fleet of 3 used 707-120Bs. These newly acquired aircraft were also put to work on the Culldrome-Shiverpool route. As more airports opened up, so did more routes. However, since oil was newly discovered in the Culldrome Isles, it created a small "boom" in its price. Then in 1979, oil prices peaked at a record high of 4.5 coins per 1 litre.

Oil prices peaked in 1979.

As the oil price went up, so did the ticket prices and other fees. The high prices forced passengers to switch to cheaper alternatives, such as ships. Air Culldrome profits fell drastically 1978, nearly forcing the airline out of business. In fact, the whole fleet of Snowing 707s had to be sold off so that a single Snowing 747 to be purchased. It was believed that the passenger to fuel ratio of a 747 was better than that of a 707. Despite this, the situation did not improve. The daily flights soon turned into weekly flights.

Eventually though, as the oil prices went down, company profit began to go up. More planes were purchased and new routes opened. By 1983, Air Culldrome had fully recovered from the all time low.

Expansion[edit]

Air Culldrome purchased a fleet of 6 737-200s. They operated in a hub and spoke pattern. This meant that the 737s fed the main hub airport (Culldrome International) via other smaller airports. The passengers at the hub would then be flown by a 747. 3 737s operated on each end of the route.

However, as more airports opened up, expansion was imminent. The airline purchased 10 used Snowing 727-100s. These could operate Eastshield-Trans Antarctica-Antarctic Peninsula routes, and thus were put to work. Eventually, over the years, more and more passengers began to travel via Air Culldrome. More airports were opened up and so were new routes. More aircraft were purchased to serve the growing needs of the airline.

Porcyal War[edit]

During the 1990s, as the Culldrome Isles were rocked by the Porcyal War, all civilian flights were stopped. The only way to travel in, out and around the archipelago was by boat. Air travel was considered unsafe. Air Culldrome instead assisted the national air-force in transporting troops, supplies and evacuating citizens. The war had a serious effect on the airline, as no flights operated, thus no revenue. Air Culldrome was forced to temporarily close the airline.

After the war had ended, Air Culldrome resumed normal operations. However, the airline initially declined to serve flights to Skulldrome, due to it's part in the war. After a 4 month controversy, Air Culldrome resumed it's service to the Skulldrome Isles, fully restoring the airline.

Present Day[edit]

Today, Air Culldrome operates a fleet of 90 aircraft, flying to 30 destinations. It is the largest airline operating in the Culldrome region and is in the top 100 best airlines of Antarctica. The airline has also won countless awards due to their dedicated service.

Corporate Structure[edit]

Headquarters[edit]

The main headquarters of Air Culldrome is located on 780 Snowpoint Road, Culldrome City. The headquarters is a large glass skyscraper. It is located in the central business district of Culldrome City. The skyscraper stands at 75 storeys tall, making it one of the tallest buildings in all of Culldrome. In addition, there is also a 5 storey tall parking lot located next to the skyscraper.

The Air Culldrome main headquarters contains the offices of the airline, as well as all of the necessary departments.

Subsidiaries[edit]

Air Culldrome does not own any subsidiaries. However, it is contemplating on opening a separate low cost airline, hoping to rival with other local low cost carriers, such as Entralink and FlyCulldrome.com. The company is also thinking about operating a separate freight airline, allowing it to

Cabin[edit]

Classic Economy[edit]

The Classic Economy class is available on all Air Culldrome aircraft. Usually there is only 20 inches of recline in economy chairs. There is a footrest and an audio system for passenger relaxation. Headphones are given out at the start of the flight, allowing passengers to tune into the 10 audio channels. In addition, an in-flight movie is played on large screens, usually at the front of the section. Passengers that cannot see the screen can tune into a certain audio channel and just listen to the movie. In addition there are is also a magazine located in the chair pocket for reading.

In-flight meals are given out to passengers at certain times of the day (ie: breakfast, lunch, dinner). On short and medium haul flights, there is only one meal given out. On long haul flights, depending on the length, two meals may be given out.

Royal Economy[edit]

Royal Economy is just like Classic Economy, although there are more upgrades. These upgrades include up to 40 inches of seat recline. There are also personal televisions (PTVs) built into the back every seat in the class (besides the seats at the back). The PTVs have 5 separate channels, usually playing movies or the day's news. There is also more legroom and space compared to Classic Economy. However, Royal Economy is only available on certain flights and aircraft.

High Flier[edit]

The High Flier class is the first class equivalent of Air Culldrome. If the passenger is part of the High-Flier Club and has earned a large number of flyer points, a free upgrade to High Flier Class is possible. There is substantially more leg room in High Flier, and the chairs are capable of reclining 160 degrees. In addition to PTVs and audio systems, as standard in Royal Economy, there are also two USB ports per passenger. This allows one to plug in their smartphone and charge it or to play music and video through the audio system and PTV, respectively.

In-flight meals in High Flier are usually chosen by the passenger. Menus are given out at the start of the flight and the passenger can request food to be delivered to them. Meals can be requested at any time during the flight, with obvious exceptions being take-off, taxi and landing.

High Flier passengers also have priority boarding. Usually there is a separate check-in and boarding counter for them. They can also check-in a larger and heavier piece of luggage compared to the economy classes.

Livery[edit]

Airculldrome737.png Ac747.png

Over the years the airline has operated, there have been two liveries that have been used. The first one, shown above on the small plane, consisted of a red and purple line, purple circles on the engines and the flag stylised onto the tail. The lines run the length of the fuselage. The purple circles represent Porcyals. This old livery was in use from 1972 to 1997.

The second livery, on the large plane above, was introduced in 1997, the year after the Porcyal War. The newer livery still retained the red and purple stripe and the purple circles. The main change was that the flag on the tail was changed to a fleur-de-lis. The fleur-de-lis is similar to the one seen on the Culldrom Flag. This livery is still in use today.

Trivia[edit]
