Beach Island or Île Plage is an island located off the coast of the city of Polaris and is one of many barrier islands that form around Polaris Bay and the Polaris Islands. Beach Island was a former seaport, and processed and distributed many goods to and from Polaris from 1922 to 1987, when the island was replaced by the Port of Polaris located in Downtown Polaris, in and around the Bay of Polaris. Beach Island was greatly expanded by landfilling in the 1930s. As of 2011, the island is currently leased by the Frankterre government to ship goods to Frankterre.
The island is currently home to many penguins and puffles, especially red puffles.
History[edit]
The concept for Beach Island began in 1911, as the city of Polaris was still growing. Many of the city commissioners and the Mayors pushed onward for a seaport to be established in the Polaris. Soon enough, local funds were put in to create a port from an outlying island bordering Polaris Bay. These outlying islands are the Polaris Bay Barrier Islands, which are at least 22.5 miles in area in total.
Construction began on Beach Island on January 22nd, 1915. The local government began filling the island up with garbage and waste, which would act as a landfill. The garbage was processed in large mats or rubber, and were stacked upon one another like bricks, to double the size of the island from 2.55 sq. miles to 6 sq. miles.
