Continental Broadcasting Network, colloquially known as CBN and The CB Network is an Antarctic-based television and news brodcaster owned and operated by ContinentalMedia Inc., a company founded by airline tycoon Sancho Monte Captio, who currently runs both SkyJet Airways and other airlines. CBN offers news radio, which is featured in 56 cities and 23 countries across the continent. The CBN operates two television channels, CBN, the broadcaster's main channel, which offers syndicated television shows, sitcoms, talk shows and television dramas. The second channel is CBNN,known as Continental Broadcasting News Network, and operates 24-hour English news, along with political talk shows as well. Being the third-largest broadcaster throughout the continent, CBN has 26% share of the market on it's mainstream channels, and controls approximately 45% of the viewers in terms of news channels.

Early Years (1994-2001)[edit]

In 1994, Raymond Monte Captio, a close uncle of airline tycoon Sancho Monte Captio purchased a small radio station in downtown Polaris to broadcast airport information to incoming drivers with flights at Polaris-City International Airport. After, the radio station expanded to become an adult contemporary station, known as 103.5 KIXX FM, and featured many new songs and was the most popular radio station throughout the city of Polaris. In 1997, Raymond Monte Captio expanded the radio station to TV, naming it the Polaris Public Broadcasting Network, which is still in use today. The television station garnered attention from viewers not only from Polaris, but around the USA.

As Penguin Broadcasting Channel (PBC) (2001-2004)[edit]

In 2001, the company re-branded itself as Penguin Broadcasting Channel. The company also began it's news operations in 2001, and moved to the new Joinville Plaza in the east of Polaris Island. The Penguin Broadcasting Channel was a pioneer in the creation of high-definition television in the United States of Antarctica, offering an HD television format in 2002, 4 years prior to its other competitors. PBC viewevership had skyrocketed in 2003, due to the introduction of newer reality television programs such as Phillips Avenue, Design Dreams, and Antarctica Sings, in which the PBC attained the status as the most-watched television network in April 2004.

The PBC operated on one channel until 2004, creating PBC News Network, offering a 24-hour news service, which is presently has the largest share of audience both in the United States of Antarctica and the Federal Republic of Polaris, possessing 37 news offices across the continent. Although the news service and new programs had contributed immensely to the success of the PBC, a scandal arose with the producers of the popular sitcom Phillips Avenue, in which seven producers had been found of fraud following their in a massive credit-card theft, costing $56.5 million. This eventually brought down the network's credibility, and had forced many shareholders to sell their stocks, which had dipped 93.5% by late 2004.

CBN maintains a large headquarters at the Continental Broadcasting Plaza, located across the street from the [[Polaris Harborfront Center], the seat of government of the City of Polaris. The North Tower is labelled as a high-tech, ultra-modern building, and possesses 52 stories, all of which CBN uses as offices and studios for news, television and radio. The Western and Eastern Towers, is much shorter than that of the North Tower, which only has a height of 25 floors, and is home to CBN Sports, CBN News International and CBN AirExpress in the Western Tower and in the Eastern Tower, CBN Junior, CBN Penguinian, CBN Espanol and CBN Francais are based. The company paid approximately 2.2 billion Fish for the construction of the towers. 1.2 billion pebbles of that came from Sancho Monte Captio's personal funds. The Headquarters were completed on January 17, 2006.

Financial woes[edit]

In 2006, the company suffered a 1 million pebble deficit, after an accountant error subtracted 9,000,000 pebbles from the company. The owner, Sancho Monte Captio bailed the company out for 2 billion pebbles of is own funds, which the company is slowly paying back in a weekly loan paid to Monte Captio. The CB, like SkyJet Airways, spends money very wisely, and has never declared bankruptcy or needed government assistance throughout the course of it's 10-year history as a broadcaster.

Aside from the company's mainstream broadcasting, the company owns and operates 23 subsidiaries,and has over 120 affiliates across the country. CBN is also the first network to commence a 75-million pebble deal with the National Airports Authority to provide CBN News Network access to the terminals of over 77 major and minor airports located in the USA. The largest subsidiary, however is CBN News International, which operates 19 offices throighout the continent, with the largest being at the CBN Center located in the Polaris Island area. Below is a list of subsidiaries controlled by the company. CBN itself is divided into a mainstream broadcasting branch, a news broadcasting branch and a radio/audio branch.

CBN Mainstream[edit]

CBN Mainstream is the primary sub-organization within CBN, accounting for 60% of all viewership. CBN Mainstream is furtherly segregated into CBN One, CBN Two, CBN FLlX and CBN Kids . CBN One broadcasts within the Federal Republic of Polaris and the USA on cable and satellite television, and is available in the Ninja Archipelago and the UnitedTerra as a speciality channel. CBN One notably broadcasts a variety of television shows, ranging from talk shows such as The Jared Panerra Show and TheEye. During daytime slots, soap operas and reruns presently dominate the airwaves, while at primetime newer dramas, sitcoms and documentaries are aired. In 2005, CBN Two had been launched by the company, and acts as a spill-over channel for much of the network's programming, allowing it to expand its programming capabilities. During primetime, usually through 6:30 to 9:30, broadcasts are simulcast along with CBN One. Daytime programming is rife with women's programming, cooking and travel documentaries and is quite popular with housewives and women over 50. CBN FLIX airs feature-length films, from the classic movies to the most recent releases. CBN FLIX was launched in 2008 with the acquisition of FLIX Entertainment, a popular distributor of movies across the continent. The channel continues to be supported financially by the federally-funded Polaris Arts Council with $11.75 million, permitting the channel to operate with a relatively low amount of commercial advertisements. CBN Kids is the network's children's television channel, targeting a demographic of 0-14. The channel shows pre-school and infant oriented programs from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM, tween programs (dramas, sitcoms and animated shows) from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and material for viewers 14 and above at 10:00 PM.

CBN News[edit]

Without the presence of a major news network in Polaris, the Board of Directors of CBN had moved to create CBN News Network, the continent's premier 24-hour news network. Beginning in 2006, CBN News Network began broadcasts from CBN Joinville Plaza Studios in Polaris City, and later expanding with studios in South Pole City.

The network is renowned across the continent for its infallible credibility and mobility on the front lines. With war correspondents Oliver Garamondel and Denise Wercheite, the network was noted for its capabilities to broadcast direct coverage of the Great Snowzerland War I on Club Penguin Island. CBN News underlined its commitment to delivering facts over entertainment under the leadership of veteran news correspondent Burton Bruinea, who interestingly enough, was not fond of the worrying fusion of news and entertainment. The network's coverage is also noted to be extremely comprehensive, with various local networks for international markets.

International news and politics have also strengthened the television network's image, as it possesses the greatest number of foreign bureaus continent-wide for any one news organization. It had established CBN News Antarctica for the USA in 2007. The expansion came at the heels of the arrival of CBN One and Two in the USA, which quickly had accumulated popularity among Antarcticans. CBN News Antarctica, while fairly new to the market, yields the top spot in terms of ratings. Localized programs for the Antarctic market have included The Hall, directly covering happenings within the South Pole Council, and Viewpoint
