Club Penguin Fanon Wiki:Decide Benny's Theme
Explorer and I have been warring with one another for hours on approrpiate theme music for Director Benny.
We have decided to send it to a vote. Choose the fate of the heartless puffle and the song that will forever be attached to his name. --TurtleShroom
Remember, though -- this is a poll to see which song(s) the database likes. The results are not entirely definitive -- as TurtleShroom and I both hold the OOC rights to Benny, we will base our choice off the results of this poll. Definition of Benny[edit]
Explorer[edit]
Benny is an evil, twisted creature with a corrupted mind and conscience. He thinks only about himself and (to a lesser extent) his family, and he must be in TOTAL control. Almost everything he does is to benefit himself. He wants things done immediately, and he's very strict and organized. He doesn't want to have anything to do with chaos, besides being the cause of it. He has little to no conscience, and thinks of others as they were characters in a story (which, ironically, they are) and didn't matter at all besides advancing the plot. For example, if someone important had to be sacrificed in order to save the other characters' bacon and create a tragic atmosphere, Benny wouldn't hesitate approving it as long as it went along with the COC. He would simply say, "The story needs to progress." There is still a bit of good left in him, though. It was tarnished and shrunken by the pressure from the rest of Benny's relatives for him to do well and become a good Von Injoface, and no one can ever say for sure whether that good will ever be realized and Benny's evil redeemed.
TurtleShroom[edit]
{Please play that ZK song on loop while you read.}
"What is Benny?", you ask.
Nay, you are not requesting a definition of Benny, but a definition of corruption itself.
Benny is not your average Injoface. Benny is not even fit to be a puffle. A dark and heartless being that sees no feelings in others, he solely cares about the productivity in his office and secretly refers to his employees and the universe as "penguin resources", or, according to some rumors, "his little playthings".
Benny measures his success by his productivity, not by if he has done right for the Universe. Did he approve one good, universe saving thing? Eh, that's a rather slow day. ...-BUT... what about twenty four cheap stubs? Excellent numbers, he met his quota!
Morals are of no question to Benny, and neither are outcomes. If it gets the job done, do it. Director Benny does not consider ethics, rather, it only matters if it rigidly adgeres to his precious COC, one of the few things, besides power, his job, and money, that he expresses feelings towards. If Director Benny had to chase someone down, and, through that chase, they collapsed and died instantly- partially in result to that chase but also to medical conditions -he would not express sympathy: "I am guiltless. She ran, I pursued.". Maybe he'd follow it up with "Better get back to my office, I've got a quota to meet.", if he was in a decent mood.
Benny lacks guilt and only rejects if it blatently and outright disobeys the COC. More often than not, he will allow something nasty if it can be interpreted enough. This includes death, if it is painless.
Anti-Benny movements in the BOF range from throwing him to the curb, or simple ones like giving his speech the Evil Treatment.
Indeed, that one has made some progress.
Relentless and unmerciful, Director Benny is the most evil of the Injofaces, and he shows no sign of relenquishing his power.
- I don't think I've described Benny's cold, cold apathy well enough for you, dear reader.
- Benny has no regard for what he approves or rejects, only if it defies the COC. If a beloved character got smashed by a car in the climax of a romance story, sying instantly, he would approve it without thinking of the mourning families incurred. It meets the COC's requirements of instantenous death, so on it goes.
- Benny does not care about the employees, just employee productivity.
- If someone gets hurt on the job, Benny would just travel by (making a curve around the fallen) while telling him or her to "walk it off" and get back to work.
- Benny approved the Pie War AND Billy May's death.
- Benny approved Kirbguin.
He is on the side of Good despite being a cold-hearted villain. Why? That is a question that no mortal can answer. I don't even know, and I'm writing this.
Oh, and the corruption; oh, the CORRUPTION! If it benefits an Injoface, he'll let it through with priority! Why else is Maverick an HQA, while Reserved is stalled? He takes your tax money to fund his whims and his family, and he cons innocent laymen into serving him, like one big chess game.
Director Benny builds his power on fright. Without a pesky conscience, Benny can do most anything (within the legal limits) to seize his way, and he does so.
Director Benny is not above lesser measures to do what he wants. Remember, he approved the Un-CP.
Any good left in him has been suppressed and crushed into the corner of his being and shoved there, covered by the blackness of his apathetic attitude. Benny makes Veranda (and her respective parody) look like this.
So, you asked me: what is Director Benny?
Benny is corruption. Benny is evil. Benny... is a Disney Villain.
Attached to this description is the Opening to the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Now, this PG-rated (maybe PG-13) 1990s Disney film says one word of question in this scene, so ahem... you've been warned. If you wish to skip straight to the Frollo stuff, go here. The swear coms right after the well scene (3:00). Time it when you see the ArchDeacon, and the swear is exactly at 3:57. Now, Benny and Frollo have their differences (mainly their motives and one is much less violent), but you'll see the comparisons I drew between the two.

The Contenders[edit]
Two equally epic songs are canidates for Benny, the preference of which boil down to a matter of taste.
CHOICE ONE: Ripple Star Level Three Remix[edit]
EXPLORER: Reasons to Choose YES to Explorer's[edit]
This is one of the creepiest pieces I've heard. It's dark, and it's not overly repetitive. The saxophone is a nod to the Yakety Sax theme that plays when Benny chases McFlapp, except with an unusual chaotic twist. The beat helps tie the song together and keeps it going strong. Director Benny, though he has a bit of good in him, is a shady, twisted, cynical puffle, and this song perfectly describes him.
Implicit with hope and fun? Excuse me, but does the symphony in the opening part hint at any enjoyment? Sure, you can dance to the original theme, but this remix is different. Since technology has surpassed the Nintendo 64's capabilities, the remix has the capability to sound even more creepier than the original soundtrack. And it is. This is a modern take on a haunted mansion. It's dark, chaotic, and twisted. Play the song again and I'll show you how it fits Benny like a glove. That low double bass playing at the very beginning (0:00) has a creepy feel to it, and as the beat starts building up (0:00-0:10), you can feel the tension. It's only a matter of time before Benny appears, and the violins that pop out don't exactly spread the positivity (0:26).... then you hit 0:53. Benny's arrived in a flash, and the music laudes him with that horrendous fanfare of music. The chaotic saxophone confuses you as you try to decide what to do at 1:08. Should you make a run for it? No... you just can't escape Benny. Your fate is left unknown as at 1:28, the music progresses into a twisted, shadowy electronic tune.
Besides, if you want action-packed, get Miracle Matter's battle theme. There's a reason the makers of Kirby 64 placed the Ripple Star music right before the Miracle Matter battle -- to spook you out.
TS says Benny is a twisted, corrupted creature. That's what this music is, people. Dance music is usually what gets penguins excited and happy. It means fun. Benny is here to change that. His mission is to rewrite society in his own image. Look at the situation if this were his theme. He would be equating dance music with himself, a being of evil and corruption. Penguins would never see dance beats the same way again. In the words of Adam Savage, Director Benny rejects reality and substitutes his own. He's twisting the essence of Club Penguin life into his own fanfare. If that's not corrupted, I don't know what is.
And if you think the saxophone ruins it, think again. Imagine Benny laughing evilly, or screaming, or chasing you as the saxophone played. That wouldn't fit at all, normally. But that's the point -- the strange contrast between the "light" saxophone and the "evil" Benny and the rest of his music is supposed to unnerve you. As he rants on and on about your minor little error and how it could "ruin the organization forever", the saxophone drawls on in its complex little tune, backed up by the steady beat. The saxophone and Benny's voice are one, continuously reprimanding you as you shiver in fear. It's a sea of scolding.
This piece is a versatile one, describing Benny in many different ways: dark, corrupted, attention-loving, selfish, sadistic, and twisted. Does it not sum up the corrupt Director perfectly? He's out to get you, folks. You know it. Yours Truly, Explorer 767 http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100407022512/clubpenguinfanon/images/6/65/Xexexecolor_small.png (Caffeinated tachyons?! TURTLESHROOM: Reasons to Choose NO to Explorer's[edit]
While this is an epic song, it just doesn't fit Benny.
You see, Benny is a dark, hateful creature who despises all fun and has a corrupted mind and conscience. He is only out to benefit himself and his family, his job and the COC being second (though he loves the COC more than his own mama).
This song is too fast, too upbeat, too implicit of hope or fun to be the melody of Director Benny. People don't dance or get excited when they see the evil puffle, they quake with fear. Benny loves a dramatic and forboding entrance. He prefers to either slowly approach the victim or pop out in a flash and frighten them.
Imagine Benny slowly approaching a quaking creature and this music playing! Imagine him popping out and the music starting as soon as he appears! Does this fit? Not in my mind!
However, that is not to say this music ISN'T fitting for Benny. It's just not his THEME. See, this sounds more like the evil all-night disco party that would take place in Charles' Key at an Injoface family reunion. Or, it would be the background music for the Injofaces at the party to talk over tropical punch and biscuits, remarking at inferior beings and discussing world domination and corruption and their superior appearences.
I could imagine Explorer (possibly in Mabel's body) sneaking around this place and hearing this music. It would get him excited, his heart pumping, his determination increased...
It doesn't signal all hope is lost, like Benny does, it signals an action-packed part of a story. It's dark ENOUGH for an Injoface, but not Benny. Rather, it's for a story involving sneaking around a GROUP of Injofaces.
Creepy my butt! This is very catchy and upbeat music, guarenteed to excite and thrill. Fast paced and action-packed, you just have an urge to shake your booty along with the rhythem. Add a saxophone and BOOM! -that's one big party there! When I was but a young child, I would play this song- unremixed -on loop over the stereo system in the basement and dance to it with my sister. It was NEVER creepy to me as a child, it has never been creepy, and it still isn't to this day. I could play it at midnight and be just fine.
This does not seem like he's out to get you, it seems like he's hosting a party where some of the most horrible villains come to share plans. It is not unnerving or implicit of doom, and it doesn't show no mercy like that slow, doom-bringing organ does.
Pick mine, it implies that Benny is here to destroy you, and it matches his heartless persoanlity! Pick Emperor Bulblax for the song of the Master of the Universe!

CHOICE TWO: The Final Trial (The Bublax Organ)[edit]
TURTLESHROOM: Reasons to Choose YES to TurtleShroom's[edit]
You're in a cubicle in the Bureau of Fiction. You know you've disobeyed his orders, but you don't know when he'll strike.
You get up to go to the water cooler, nervously pouring yourself a cup of coffee, all the while, looking around for him.
Anxious, suspenseful, you ask your supervisor to take a break, and you head downstairs to a hall. All the while, you wait for it. The fear rises up as he detects your breach of protocol.
You hear a voice, dramatically angered, telling you that you have done wrong. You waddle down the hall and see a shadow. It's him!
Backed into a corner, the figure comes down the hall. He's glaring, his eyes ablaze with anger at your petty mistake. He slowly moves toward you, and then... HE SCREAMS.
Why do I support the Final Trial/Bulblax Organ as Director Benny's theme? Simple.
It is forboding, ominous, slow-paced but progressive, and the opening- the same that Explorer compares to Keyboard Cat -implies that you're officially doomed. High pitched and few in keys, the opening gives no hope of escape, no silver lining, not one glimpse of security or joy, not one way to dance or relieve the stress and fear one gets from Director Benny's wrath.
It is slow and gives off a feeling of impending doom. Something is about to get you; something is about to do bad things to you, your children, and your children's children. After all, Benny punishes for the sins of the father. Anger him once, and it's boots for generations.
Dan declassified the Philly Cheesesteak Test, and wrath fell upon him. He barely managed to change it back. What went through the Admiral's mind when things got paranormal/fourth-wall-breaking? Exciting disco? Or doom and gloom?
When Keith sees Benny, does he think? Does he think upbeat-but-dark dance music or total death and dispair?
When Benny condemns TurtleShroom's uncle for telling THE SECRET, and Mattress Village is quarentined as the sound of deletion is heard outside of the TS family's home, only for that uncle to be wiped off the face of the earth, does upbeat disco music play? Do the citizens of that quiet town shakily move their arms a bit to the catchy beat, or do they grab hold of one-another and tremble in fear, as if their lives could end at any second?
Don't get me wrong, Explorer has great taste... -but which one would imply death, doom, and no hope? Disco makes me feel like dancing, and everyone knows that excercise is an anxiety REMOVER, not an anxiety INDUCER. Benny is serious business. Relentlessly persuing and repititive, he will never stop until he destroys you or another saves you. Choose the music of death, music that matches what happens when you make him angry.
Choose BULBLAX ORGAN!

EXPLORER: Reasons to Choose NO to TurtleShroom's[edit]
It's BORING. The intro sounds like a cat trying to imitate Keyboard Cat and epically failing. The rest isn't even an organ, it's a cheap ELECTRIC KEYBOARD being played by a snail and on low volume. Benny deserves something more interesting than this, something with vibe and something that screams "I'm going to get you." I mean, all this is is someone playing repeated strings of eighth/sixteenth notes over and over again. The rhythm isn't even stable! We want a creepy song, but we don't want a mangled beat! Benny wants things done, and he wants them NOW. He's impatient, so his music should definitely be at least a little faster than this slowpoke. And he's organization. This piece has a wrecked melody AND a wrecked beat. We want something steady, with chaos, but not to the point where it doesn't even SOUND like music. Now, if this actually had a stable, powerful beat to make it strong, you would just have to break the melody's cadence, alter it a bit, and play it on an organ. THAT would be a great Benny theme -- a powerful beat and a twisted, haunting melody. But guess what -- that's what Ripple Star exactly is.
I mean, this would work great for his office theme. But it's a bit too weak and uninteresting to be Benny's actual theme. Drawcia Sorceress has a similar concept with organ-like music and long strings of notes, but it's slightly faster, and the first time it repeats -- BOOM! It's accompanied by an assembly of drums. The melody is also played on different instruments as the song progresses. That's what makes the music interesting. But what about Bulblax? Nope. Just "dee-dee-doo-dee", a few weak cymbal crashes, and lots of repeats. Yes, it's haunting. But not enough. And it's nowhere near interesting. In my mind, this music just doesn't fit with a flashy, attention-grabbing Benny entrance. He pops out of smoke clouds with flashes of light, right? So his theme should be something that will grab your attention and direct it to Benny. It only makes sense -- he wants to be the center of attention.
Ripple Star completely works for an ominous approach, and then a sudden appearance by Benny. When you start hearing the beginning, you know he's discovered you've done something wrong. The fanfare signals his entrance, and the rest is him screaming at you and chasing you around the place. Now look at Bulblax. Just imagine the song beginning as Benny prepares to enter. It makes okay ambient music, but it seems more like Benny hasn't arrived yet and the music is just trying to spook you out before he actually does. There's no good moment in the song where he can actually appear in a flash and have the music laude him -- except maybe at 0:45. But even then, it's not much of an attention-grabbing entrance because the song is so quiet, and in order for it to fit, the music would have to end right there. The music describes no yelling, no chase scene -- it just ends and repeats once Benny appears. I mean, can you imagine Benny yelling or running around to this slow theme? Clearly this won't work. Benny deserves a theme that describes EVERYTHING about him -- the approach, the appearance, the yelling, and the chase. Choose Ripple Star!

CHOICE THREE: Use BOTH![edit]
What if the music changed depending on Benny's mood?
- Bublax Organ is his doomsday music. When he REALLY wants to let you know you're doomed, he flips on Final Trial.
- Ripple Star is his normal music, his working music, etc. -it just gives off an air of disco and darkness... all at once.
VOTE[edit]

- Bulblax Organ -- 3

Personally, TS, if you're going for dark and scary, I would pick Zant's theme. This isn't scary-it would fit XORAI! Xorai is "evil", but in his true self is kind of pathetic. It's a weak organ. Although Explorer's is a bit too quick. I think that it would be better for like, a Von Injoface. --Austin8310-HIYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAAA! 01:22, June 11, 2010 (UTC)
