This is a free-add discussion and vote about our opinions, as users, and the possibility of an amendment or two to the Rights and Inactivity policy. This vote is not talking about demoting users, although the result of this discussion could lead to that topic.

Background

I recently went to the abandoned council page, and I noticed that almost a year ago Bro suggested an amendment to the Rights and Inactivity policy. Let me quote his proposal:

“Quote1.pngThough many of our older users aren't willing to see historic users give up their rights, I think we should still implement this common-sense rule, but with a loophole. Any user who has been inactive for two or more months shall be demoted. However, once they return to activity, they will get their rights back, unless the administration does not approve.Quote2.png”

Unfortunately, the issue and debate never came up again, as the council is pretty much abandoned, which is why I made this blog post. I personally find it useless and misleading to have people with rights that haven't been on the wiki in months, maybe even years'. According to this, the wiki has 11 administrators, although I'm pretty sure Project X Mark 1, Roger Lopez, and XTUX345 haven't edited in a loooong time.

As for the current rights and inactivity policy, both the administrator and bureaucrat sections give the same short sentence:

“ The administration and/or community will decide when to revoke rights the user. ”

So basically, it's a very vague excuse that the administration can use to keep people promoted forever, but I say that it's time that we at least discuss this. So, here are my propositions.

Proposed changes

Administrator section

Most of this is in alignment with what Bro suggested in the Council.

  • Any administrators that haven't actively edited in three months shall be demoted.
  • If the demoted users return, they can request to be repromoted after a few weeks of being on the wiki again. This is to prevent people from stopping in for one day and getting repromoted, only to disappear again.
  • After the user requests to be repromoted, the administration can decide to either repromote them, or not.

Bcrat section

While we're here, we might as well set barriers for the bcrat portion as well. I feel like this portion should be more severe, as we don't want people to just pop in and be given the highest form of power on our wiki.

  • Similar to the admin portion, any bcrat that hasn't edited in three months, with no notice or reason, shall be demoted.
  • The same repromotion method shall be initiated for those who return. Except, they would only be given administrator rights, not bcrat.
  • They could eventually return to bureaucrat status through the normal promotion process, if they wish to do so.

Vote

Please only vote in one section. Also, if you wish to change your vote please strike out your previous vote using <s> and </s>, but do not remove the vote altogether. Note: This is not an official vote, but hopefully the administration will take note of this discussion and make the appropriate changes to match the view of the community.
