Biography[edit]
Death[edit]
A breakthrough in Teleportal technology had proved that Ditto A was an excellent portal conductor. As a result, many of the white-painted panels in the Ed Laboratories Enrichment Facility had been replaced by Ditto ones. These panels were specially treated so that they would not affect anybody in the chamber. However, several chambers involved the use of special Conversion Gel made of liquified Ditto. Unbeknownst to EDFan, his inspection ran him through a Ditto course.
AI - Early Years[edit]
When EDFan was brought back as the EDFan Holding Disk Operating System, his consciousness was broken up into several "fragments." One by one, they were added to his memory banks, until he regained his entire personality back. For eighteen years, he was bound to a giant, stationary body until new breakthroughs in robotics created Synthetics, which were androids designed to resemble penguins. EHDOS had several Synthetics created that resembled his former, mortal form, of which his consciousness was dumped into. Throughout the decades later, EHDOS posed as EDFan once more, despite not appearing to age.
AI - IEE[edit]
By 2082, Ed Island had progressed past simple space travel. The next target in space was the terraforming colonization of an extrasolar planet. The Epsilon Eridani system was chosen due to its close proximity to the Sol system. Tribute was the first to be colonized, followed by the other planets of the system. Soon later, the Intergalactic Empire of Ed was formed out of the former Ed Island.

Persons[edit]
In the late 2500s, EHDOS split his personality into four "shells", each with a separate purpose. Each shell was unconsciously connected to the other three, and they all shared a central mainframe in the depths of Tribute. Each form possesses some attributes from EDFan's original consciousness.
The Hierarch[edit]
The original shell, the Hierarch is the central governing body of the IEE. He possesses EDFan's leadership and courage which allow him to remain the great and proud ruler that he once was.
The Fleetmaster[edit]
Possessing EDFan's tactical and logical skills, the Fleetmaster is the primary military leader of the IEE. It was him who led the defense of Primordium in the early 3000s.
The Colonist[edit]
The least "important" of the four, the Colonist is the head of most IEE planetary colonization programs. He is also the most benevolent of the forms, caring for all life that flourishes on his worlds. He possesses EDFan's care and compassion for others.
"EDFan"[edit]
Stemmed from the loss of his mortality, EHDOS created the final shell as a "simple farmer" on a lesser known planet on the edge of IEE-controlled space. Living with his "wife," Tekla, he represents what EHDOS could have been if he had never been hatched into royalty some six hundred years prior. This form is the most like the original EDFan, possessing a combination of all of the three other forms' personalities along with EDFan's memories, something none of the others have beyond a basic level.
Timeline[edit]
- 2036-- EDFan gets fatal Ditto poisoning, driving him to create EHDOS out of a fear of death.
- 2051-- EDFan officially ends his reign as King of Ed Island, giving temporary control to his assistant, Alyx.
- EDFan's "mortal death". Scientists scan EDFan's brain, which is turned into an AI controlling Ed Laboratories named EHDOS, the EDFan Holding Disk Operating System.
- 2069-- EHDOS creates his first portable body: a Synthetic designed to resemble his original body, a century previous. Until 3106, he poses as a Synthetic designed to resemble EDFan.
- 3106-- EHDOS creates a new portable robotic body for himself, which he called The Didact. At this point, he has nearly entirely forgotten his time as a penguin, and can only catch glimpses through "flashbacks" that occur to him. This form was a "gift" given to him by the Primordial.
Trivia[edit]
- Unlike the TurtleShroom AI, who is unaware of being a computer program, EDFan is fully aware of it. Even before his death, EDFan often mocked the outdated (and oversized) AI.
- EHDOS is a parody of both Cave Johnson and GLaDOS from Portal 2.
