Gerwin von Ritter is the young apprentice of Gottfried Hochstadt. The youth has had a good relationship with Gottfried since his father was Gottfried's master at one point when Gottfried was a squire. As a return in favor, Gottfried has allowed Gerwin to be Gottfried's apprentice in hopes that Gerwin would also become an exceptional fighter like himself. However, unlike Gottfried, Gerwin wishes to be a musketeer to rival with the Frankterrans.

Young Gerwin was born in 1995 in the Munchen Hospital in what was then South Alemania to Lord Albrecht and Lady Gerda von Ritter. Though Gerwin showed capable qualities for becoming a decent knight, his father did not want him to be trained one. His father believed that the position was useless under the Republic of South Alemania because the South Alemanian government pushed for the abolition of the nobility. Nevertheless, his parents hired him a private tutor so that he could be raised as a proper son of the nobility. His parents hoped that he could become an intellectual so that he could one day gain more power through having a good job. Thus, the only child Gerwin was pressured to do well in his studies, and he was drilled to learn a lot of etiquette, math, science, history, geography, culture, the German language, and the English language. Then, when Gottfried Hochstadt arrived to Gerwin's castle home to seek refuge from his evil uncle, Gerwin's father was pressured to teach the young penguin to become a knight. Gerwin was jealous at first, though Gottfried learned to befriend the lonely child, and Gottfried secretly gave him sword fighting lessons with sticks on occasion. Luckily, Gerwin's parents never found out about Gerwin's lessons until Gottfried was knighted and left to live his own life. Gerwin often argued his father and mother about not being able to become a knight until his father offered him an alternative- to become a musketeer. Gerwin decided that a musketeer would be better since they mastered both the gun and the sword, and they did not need to wear any heavy armor. Gerwin agreed to become a musketeer but he had to wait until he was 17 before he became one in the February of 2013, when he became Gottfried's apprentice.
Involvement[edit]
Gerwin von Ritter became Gottfried's apprentice in Gottfried's Tale. Gottfried has learned to train him in the ways of sword fighting, while Piper taught him the ways of gun handling. Gerwin accompanied Gottfried to several balls and served in the temporarily Alemanian uprising against Snoss rule. When Gottfried was engaged in a fight with Swiss Ninja, Gerwin used his skills to defend his teacher from being killed and was able to fight Swiss Ninja off in time to escape to Castilla by a rescue helicopter.
