The Intergalactic Empire of Ed is a large empire spanning several solar systems. It was formed after the colonization of the Epsilon Eridani system by Ed Island, and the expansion of its space colonies.

Culture

Language

The most common language among the IEE is a broken form of English, named "Ed English". It is rather harsh and guttural than Antarctican English, and has a different alphabet made up of different formations of triangles.

Honor

Penguins in the IEE consider most other penguins to be inferior to them, both culturally and in fighting skill; this thinking has caused them to treat other countries in an arrogant manner. The Eds display respect and admiration for honorable fighters, whether they are allies or not; it is not unusual for an Ed to have such an admiration for their adversaries. Eds respect and revere veterans and often follow their lead. Their history is rife with victorious combatants welcoming the defeated enemies' remaining forces into their own army, provided of course that they fought with honor.

Subspecies

Penguins in the IEE are not normal penguins, but a subspecies, which are more adaptable to different environments than normal. The subspecies is thought to have arisen after thousands of penguins were unknowingly exposed to extraterrestrial technology, which may have added trace amounts of alien DNA into the penguins. The IEE has a population of 1,245,146,184 as of 2328.

Economy

Currency

The currency used is a 22nd Century form of the Doshin used for three hundred years prior, called the Doshin Credit. Represented by dc, the old, coin form is still accepted, but "credit chips" are the commonly accepted payment, and are an improved form of banking.

Government

The IEE is headed by a Hierarch, who is the central governing body of the empire. With them, there are two High Councillors, who aid in decision-making. The other present governance is the High and Lesser Councils, which was made up of over 200 Councillors. The Councils were divided into sub-groups, with different tasks and goals which keep the empire up and running within all its aspects. These Councils meet in the High Council Chamber to discuss policy, discipline, promotions among ranks and military plans.

In addition, The Primordial was accepted as an adviser to the heirarch, due to the sheer amount of knowledge and wisdom it contained.

Relationships With Other Nations

The IEE is a very xenophobic culture, only coming into contact with others through trading, and occasionally hostile encounters. They mostly stay to their own machinations, but occasionally return to Antarctica. As such, there are rarely any formal relationships with other nations. All relations with others completely broke down when the IEE declared war on many others to protect the Primordial in 3105.

The EISC shares most military operations within the IEE with the EICM, but takes care of almost all out-system conflicts. As they have discovered unknown, alien artifacts (which are usually reverse-engineered), they are put on edge as a powerful military.

Trivia

• The IEE still maintains a presence in Antarctica, continuing to operate in Ed Island.
• In late 2013, a message was discovered that mentioned several of the IEE's colony worlds, but it was not known at the time.
