Millsburg is a Polarian city located in the state of Hampton. It is known for it's elegant colonial architecture, fancy gardens, and old water mills. It has been a place of relaxation for many decades, as it has several seaside resorts nearby the main city. The city of Millsburg, as well as all of the state of Hampton, had been under Puffish Colonial Rule until 2002, where it was ceded to the USA, and later Polaris. Today it is a bustling resort town that produces goods such as Flour, Lumber, Cream Soda, and most recently, Electricity, since some mills have been converted into Alternative Energy plants that are run by the Goodwin River's strong currents.

History[edit]

The place where modern Millsburg stands today was excavated to be a small Snowpriot trading village that may have been run down by the Penguin Empire. The ruins of the town, which are minimal, are located near the Goodwin River Delta and is now a National Park. It is known that the Penguin Empire had farmed a lot in the area, although some years of bad harvest caused the farmers to leave. The area was rediscovered in 1664 by a Puffish Explorer and Trader named Sir Jackson Harvey, who was visiting the Castillan controlled Juno Islands. Sir Harvey discovered the area as a thick forest, and sailed down the Goodwin River for a short while until they found a small clearing. Sir Harvey claimed the new area for Puffle'and and built a fortress for the Soldiers he left behind. He returned again with crowds of hopeful colonists, and Sir Harvey named the town originally Harson, after himself. The city of Harson became a direct place for Puffle'and to trade with the High Penguin Confederacy. The small town of farmers quickly grew into a large trading river port town by 1706, which was when the Puffish crown declared Harson as the Capital of the new Hampton Province of Puffle'and. Many Harson Farmers grew profitable from the good crops from the rich soil, making some wealthy. In the next fifty years, the city turned from a poor majority to a wealthy majority of citizens in 1756. The wealthy majority of citizens beautified the cityscape of Harson as well, adding many larger brick buildings, fancy bush gardens, and intricate fountains. The arts were popular in the city, and art and other crafts like quilts and clothing were often sold to the mainland. While the wealthy of Harson found themselves in luxury, the poorer class, who were mostly bankrupt farmers or immigrants from Alemania, ended up as laborers, such as street sweepers, farm hands on wealthy plantations, servants, construction workers, and trash cleaners. Some did earn enough money eventually to start their own business, where they did reasonably well. In 1772, a wealthy banker purchased a large portion of land along the Goodwin River, where he began to construct lumber and flour mills that would be worked on by the growing immigrant minority. In result, the workers produced a high amount of goods, which made the banker more wealthy and the mills became Nationally famous. Competition soon followed, and Harson became a city for the Rich and Nobility while the Lower classes lived in decent suburban areas nearby. In 1786, the city was renamed to Millsburg, and it began to incorperate the nearby small villages of immigrants into the city. Millsburg's economy and society stayed stable through the 1800's. The first seaside resorts appeared in the 1850's, and attracted many wealthy tourists from around the Antarctic. In 1863, the Queen of Puffle'and visited the city and was rather impressed. In the late 1800's, large smokestack factories appeared commonplace in the city outskirts more inland, which added more pollution. The Fall of the HPC in 1913 marked the rise of Khanzem, who invaded the Hampton Province in 1915. Millsburg was not damaged by the invasion because the Alemanian immigrants started a rebellion and overthrew the Puffish Colonial Governor. For three miserable years, the wealthy became the laborers, and the poorer became the wealthy and in power. The outskirt factories were converted into Khanzem weaponry assembly lines, and the Alemanian immigrants imposed German to replace English as the official language, yet the city's name stayed since it sounded somewhat German. Then, in 1918, the Ruscans invaded the city from the inland, and sacked every factory that produced Khanzem weaponry. The rest of the city was unharmed. The Ruscans controlled Millsburg and Hampton Province for three years. Millsburg was known as Milsgrad during Ruscan rule, and both the Alemanian immigrants and the wealthy Puffish stayed poor, leaving the city splendor to Ruscan Soldiers. In 1921, Puffle'and and Rusca signed the 1921 Millsburg Treaty, giving the city back to Puffle'and. The Puffish wealthy reclaimed their businesses, homes, and money, but also developed a respect for the Lower Classes. The Social Classes soon began to integrate and level in the 1990's, during Colonial Antarctica. They became a loyalist city, and Hampton Province was not integrated into the USA. However, in 2002, the USA demanded the Province to be ceded to them, thus causing the 2002 Millsburg Treaty. The USA made several changes to the city, like changing the road directions so that the drivers drive on the right side. In 2011, Millsburg became Polarian, and became the capital of the Hampton State. In 2012, the Federal Republic of Polaris congregated with the USA, UTR, Castilla, and the AU Council to sign the 2012 Millsburg Treaty, which signaled an end to the Yowien Monarchy and it's sovereignty. Today, Millsburg is still prosperous, more in tourism than in their mills, though.

Architecture[edit]

The architecture of Millsburg is mostly Puffish Colonial, especially in the old town of the city. Unlike the rest of the Federal Republic of Polaris, Millsburg is known for not having as many skyscrapers or high rise apartments like other major cities, though a few skyscrapers have developed in the past few years. The majority of Millsburg's homes are mostly two story and can date back as far as the 1700's to 1800's, while the main part of Old Town is known for having larger, four story buildings that are somewhat reminiscent of the architecture of Snowdon, the Puffish capital.
