The November 2015 Lys Attacks were a series of terrorist attacks carried out in Lys on November 20, 2015, by the terrorist organization the Nexonan Nationalist Movement. The attacks killed 90 and injured 201, and drew Lys into the Antarctic War on Terrorism.

History[edit]

Since Lys was an ally of many of the counter-terrorists, and also provided aid, the country was on high alert during the Antarctic War on Terrorism. After the Lysene Parliament voted to conduct airstrikes on terrorist positions, the terrorists threatened to attack Lys. Thus, the terror alert level was raised to the second highest level, and borders were secured.

Days before the attacks, Snowinian authorities warned of an imminent attack. The Lysene government responded in conducting multiple raids in suspected terrorist hideouts, and also considered backing out of the Treaty of Inland, which allowed open borders. However, Lysene authorities learned after the attacks that the terrorists had arrived in Lys weeks beforehand, and managed to avoid the raids.

Attacks[edit]

The attacks were carried out by eight perpetrators in four different groups. There were four bombings and four shootings, with many of the attackers carrying out shootings and then detonated their bombs when police arrived. Most of the attacks occurred in downtown Lys, a highly trafficked area by tourists and citizens alike, with the exception of the National Stadium bombing, which happened elsewhere.

National Stadium bombing[edit]

Around 8:00 pm, two terrorists attempted to enter the National Stadium, where a soccer match between Francterre and Snowiny was being held. After failing to pass through a metal detector, the terrorists were prevented from entering. One of the terrorists detonated his bomb, killing himself, along with three police officers and security, and two civilians.

Hearing about the attack, soccer officials continued the game, as they believed that another terrorist would have detonated another bomb when civilians were evacuating, therefore killing much more. When the game ended, people were brought onto the field, while police guarded the entrances and exits. Nobody was allowed to leave until 10:00 pm, forty-five minutes after the last of the attacks ended.

Downtown bombings and shootings[edit]

Republic Ave[edit]

Around 8:25 pm, two terrorists shot people at a restaurant on Republic Street. One terrorist fled when police arrived, while the second detonated his bomb, killing himself, one officer, and two civilians. This attack killed around 20 and injured 33.

3rd St[edit]

At 8:40 pm, two terrorists shot people at Cafe Bourbon on 3rd St. When police arrived, one of the terrorists detonated his bomb, killing himself and five others. The other terrorist fled, where he detonated his bomb, killing only himself. The attacks killed 16 and injured 34.

Paradise Avenue[edit]

At 9:00 pm, two other terrorists walked into a cafe, placing an order before opening fire on the customers. When police arrived, one of the terrorists fled, while the other detonated his bomb, killing 3 more. The other terrorist ran into a nearby cafe, holding hostages before detonating his bomb when police entered the cafe, killing himself and two officers. These attacks killed 25 and injured 67.

Saulse Theater[edit]

At 9:15 pm, two terrorists, along with a third survivor from the National Stadium bombings, arrived at the Saulse Theater to carry out the last attack. During a performance by Lavender 5, the terrorists opened fire on the crowd. Fortunately, security were able to kill two of the terrorists, while the third fled into another room with 10 hostages.

At a few minutes of failed negotiations, SWAT police raided the room, causing the terrorist to detonate his bomb, killing himself, and 4 others. The two attacks killed 29 and injured 67. All members of Lavender 5 were able to escape unharmed.

Perpetrators[edit]

Four groups, consisting of two people each, carried out the attacks. Each of the terrorist were armed with a pistol, an assault rifle, and a bomb. All of the terrorists were killed in the attacks. Lysene officials later found out the guns were purchased illegally.

The day after the attacks, the NNM claimed responsibility for the attacks, saying it was retaliation for the recent airstrikes carried out by the Lysene Armed Forces. Each of the terrorists had dual Margatian and Antarctican citizenship, but were carrying fake United Provinces passports.

Search[edit]

Over the next few days, Lysene authorities conducted a number of raids, searching for accomplices or other terrorists still in the city. One of the main suspects was Alexander Killingworth, a high ranking member of the NNM who was on the Lysene government's terror watchlist.

On November 23rd, Lysene police stopped a car at the Lys-USA border, in which they found three terrorists, one belonging to the WhiteBloods, while the other two belonged to the NNM. Both were taken into questioning and were later handed over to Munian and Margatian authorities, respectively.

Reactions[edit]

Government Reactions[edit]

  • LysFlag.png Lys - President Brandon Stark of Lys condemned the attacks and offered his condolences to the victims and their families. He said that Lys would continue carrying out airstrikes against the terrorists, and said the Lys wasn't scared of the terrorists.
  • MAI.png Margate - In response to the attacks, the Margatian government ordered for the detention of more than 50 terrorist suspects. A further 25 terrorists who were already in custody were also hanged. There were also unconfirmed rumors that the Margatian Special Branch also had 7 terrorist hideouts taken out by secret means such as UAV strikes and death squads. "We don't have to fight, but if they insist on one, we'll make sure that they are either too crippled or too dead to have any other fights," President Mueller announced.
  • AcadiaFlag.png Acadia - President Brant Esser of Acadia strongly condemned the attacks, and also offered his condolences to the victims and their families. He also announced the Acadia would stand by their ally, offering help.

Acadia Lockdown[edit]

A week following the attacks, after numerous threats from Little Penland and the NNM, Acadia was placed under heavy lockdown, with shops, schools, and transportation closed. The Acadian government also encouraged people not to gather in large groups publicly. During this time, Acadian Police and Special Forces raided many terrorist hideouts and captured many planners of the Lys attacks.
