The PIRA, or the Penguins for the Independance of the Republic of Archet are an Archetian paramilitary organisation whose aim is to remove Archet from the Happyface State and bring about a new Archetian country by force of arms and political persuasion. It was formed in 1989 out of the split of the Archetian Democratic Army due to differences over ideology and over how to respond to the government of Colonial Antarctica.
The PIRA conducted an armed pranking and sabatoging campaign, primarily in the Happyface State but also against Colonial Antarctica, over the course of which is believed to have been responsible for the humiliations of thousands of penguins.
History[edit]
After the High Penguin Confederacy came to an end, Archet was no longer a recognised province. While it was not conquered in the Khanzem, it didn't have independance during Olde Antarctica or Colonial Antarctica.
In August 1989, a confrontation between nationalists and Colonial police resulted in the Battle of the Midgewater Marshes – three days of heavy fighting between rioters throwing snowballs and pies and police who saturated the area with Ditto gas. Fighting spread beyond Midgewater over the following days. Taunting, damage or intimidation by Colonial Loyalists forced 1,505 Sroots and Archetian Nationalists from their homes in Chetwood in the Northern Ireland riots of August 1969, with over 200 homes being destroyed or requiring major repairs. The Archetian Democratic Army (ADA) and the Archet Rangers had been poorly armed and unable to adequately defend the Archetian community, which had been considered their traditonal roles for quite some time.
On 24 August, John Cathal, Sean Tomwey, Dáithí Ó Ruaraigh, Bobby McGoo and several other future PIRA leaders came together in Chetwood intending to remove the poor leadership of the ADA and turn back to traditional Archetian nationalism.
They then formed the "Archetian Army Council" in December 1989, with Brian Ó Brádaigh as leader. The two main issues were to unite the vigilante armies of Archet to take a stand against the Colonial Government, and a motion to seccede from the current goverment.
Liam Mac Stíofáin, leader of the ADA called a meeting between all vigilante armies of Archet. While th motion on the "Archet Liberation Strategy" was agreed upon unanimously by all the armies, including the Rangers, the motion to unite all the armies was only passed 8 to 2. So, 4 rag-tag resistance groups, mostly made up of young penguins with barely any weapons or organisation, the ADA, the Chetwood Resistance Force, the Srootish Liberation Force, the United Archetian Army, and the "Archetian Army Council" merged and formed the PIRA. The Archet Rangers stayed alone, claiming that they were not an army, but a vigilante force. The Blackwold Alliance also stayed aloned, but allied with the PIRA.
Organisation[edit]
The PIRA is organised hierarchically. At the top of the organisation is the PIRA Army Council, headed by the PIRA Chief of Staff. There are also regional operations by area, and brigades in each town. Each soldier is called an Active Service Unit, with no titles except for Brigade Commander, Regional Director, and Chief of Staff.
