Penguin Shops Air flight 45 was a routine flight from Soul to Penguin City. On approach, the aft of the Snowing 757 was shot by several bullets, resulting in the death of one penguin. This accident would bring changes to air travel in Shops Island.
Prologue: The Spirit of Lavender[edit]
It was New Year's Day 2014. Shops Islanders were at home, celebrating with friends and family. They were having a pleasant day off. Not much was happening.
At Shops City, however, people were getting excited. It's not about the new year, though. A small crowd was at a Shop Jet hangar at the Chill P. Beachball International Airport. Penguin Air CEO Freeman Martel was at the podium giving a speech.
Freeman: Welcome to Hangar 10! Today, I have something special to show you guys.
The crowd cheered wildly. A popular Aviation news program was filming the event.
Freeman: Since 2012, my airline and the government owned Shop Jet has had a strong relationship. We codeshare. We share miles. We share airline lounges. It's all good. We even shared planes for a while. What I'm going to show you today makes our relationship better. The Shops Island Government has allowed Penguin Air and Shop Jet display Lavender on one jet. I'll show them to you in just a second.
The crowd cheered even louder as the curtains fell. Two planes were shown.
Freeman: To my left is Shop Jet's MD-90 painted with the Spirit of Lavender livery. To my right is Penguin Shops Air's 757 painted in this livery.
Excitement buzzed throughout the hangar. Aviation enthusiasts tried to snap pictures of the two jets. Freeman then slammed a bottle of cider on each of the jet's noses. The crowd soon had an opportunity to take a closer look. After about an hour, the Shop Jet plane taxied to it's gate. The Penguin Air jet took a shuttle flight to Penguin City for it's first flight in the new paint scheme.
At the Party Hat concourse, everyone taking Shop Jet flight 749 to Vonkouver received some goodies. The shiny jet was tugged to the gate.

Penguins started boarding the MD-90 to Vonkouver. Meanwhile at Penguin City, ATC cleared the 757 to land. This same plane, however, would be involved in a terrorist attack no one knew about.
Chapter 1: Approach[edit]
Fast forward to two months later. The Snowing 757 was on approach to Penguin City after an exhausting flight from Soul. The cabin was quiet. People were waking up from naps. It was a pretty normal cabin.
Onboard was flight attendant Sandra Martel. She is the daughter of Freeman Martel and was a flight attendant onboard the first Penguin Air flight.
Sandra: Ladies and gentleman, we are now passing out immigration forms. All items must be filled in with black or blue ink. These will be collected by SIA agents once you go to customs.
On the flight deck was captain Mack Gray, one of the most senior 757 and 767 pilots on Penguin Shops Air. He was chatting with his co-pilot, Jerker Glover. He was hired by Penguin Air six months ago.
Mack: Excited to get back home?
Jerker: Yup. I want to relax for a little while.
Just a few feet away from the cockpit is Yoshi Eleventeen. He was returning home from Kimchifest, an annual event that happens every season. The festival celebrates kimchi, the "best pickles in the world". Yoshi was in the first class cabin playing blackjack with his beloved icePhone. Flight attendant Sandra walked up to him.
Sandra: Mr. Eleventeen, do you want a snack?
She showed Yoshi a snack baskets with dried fish snacks, cookies, and kimchi.
Yoshi: I would like that can of kimchi.
Sandra: All right! Here's your kimchi and an immigration form. Do you need a pen?
Yoshi: No thanks.
He already had a silver pen, which was given to Yoshi by the Bellegione, one of the finest casinos in Las Puffles, as a 3-year anniversary gift for working there. It was a great pen, but it usually costs about 125 U.S.A. Fish.
Yoshi: It's just great working at a casino...
At the back of the plane in seat 41A, a young penguin was filling out her immigration form. He was wearing a light t-shirt and a cap. Typical airline fashion.
Back up at the flight deck, ATC has delivered a message to the plane.
ATC: Penguin Shops 45, descend to 15 0 feet. Contact Freezestonian Center for further instruction.
Jerker: Penguin Shops 45, descending to 15,000. Switching frequencies to Freezestonian Center. Have a nice day.
The plane was at an altitude of 35,000 feet. It was flying off the eastern coast of Freezestonia.
Mack: You make an announcement. I'll descent the plane.
Jerker: All right.
He turned on the intercom and said a message.
Jerker: Good morning ladies and gentleman. This is your first officer speaking. At this time, please fasten your seatbelt. Local time is about 6[:42 A.M. We should be on the ground in about thirty to forty-five minutes. We had a great time with you on this flight, so fly Penguin Shops Air sometime soon.
Just as the announcement was completed, a noise was heard.
BAM!
Mack: What the heck was that?
Jerker: I don't know. I'm contacting ATC.
In the cabin, there was chaos. Passengers were frozen.
Sandra: Ladies and gentleman! Stay calm! Fasten your seatbelts, please. We'll be fine.
Suddenly, the noise was heard again.
BAM!
This time, oxygen masks fell down. At the back of the cabin, a hole was found in the window. Immigration forms were floating around. One penguin was found bleeding.
That was the penguin in seat 41A.
In the cockpit, they got a decompression warning.
Mack: Put on your oxygen mask, Jerker!
Jerker: I am!
Mack immediately pressed the distress signal. Jerker contacted ATC.
Jerker: Mayday, mayday, this is Penguin Shops 45. We have experienced a decompression. Requesting immediate descent.
ATC: Penguin Shops 45, copy. Descend to 10,000 feet.
At the cabin, Sandra made another announcement.
Sandra: Ladies and gentleman, oxygen masks has dropped. Pull a mask, place it over your nose and mouth, and tighten using the elastic. Oxygen is flowing.
She then put on her own mask.
The cockpit then received a call from a flight attendant.
Flight Attendant: Captain, it appears that someone got shot.
Mack: All right. Jerker, contact ATC.
Jerker: This is Penguin Shops 45. Someone onboard got shot. We need an ambulance once we touch down.
ATC: Penguin Shops 45, copy. We're contacting emergency services.
Jerker then made a cabin announcement.
Jerker: Ladies and gentleman, is there a doctor on board? Please go to row 41. Someone got shot. Thanks.
Immediately, Yoshi ran to the back of the plane.
Yoshi: I'm a certified EMP!
The first thing he saw was a large hole in a window. Then, he say a penguin. Blood was dripping down his face.
Concerned about his own safety, Yoshi sat down, strapped on, and grabbed an oxygen mask. He them placed an oxygen mask over the penguin.
Yoshi: I need gauze!
The flight attendant in the back handed him a first aid kit. She then tried to assist.
Yoshi: Thanks for helping.
Flight Attendant: It's just my job.
Yoshi wrapped some gauze around the wound. He then applied some pressure.
Yoshi: Check his pulse.
The flight attendant checked his pulse.
Flight Attendant: I'm doing CPR.
Meanwhile in the cockpit, Mack checked his instruments.
Mack: 10,000 feet. You?
Jerker: 10,000 for me too.
Mack: Make an announcement. I'm contacting ATC.
Jerker made a very short announcement.
Jerker: It is now safe to take off your oxygen masks.
Meanwhile, Mack was in a conversation with ATC.
Mack: This is Penguin Shops 45, we have reached 10,000 feet. We need to land in Pallinn IMMEDIATELY.
ATC: Penguin Shops 45, you are cleared to land at Pallinn. Traffic is clear. Emergency services are at the airport.
In the cabin, Sandra made a long announcement.
Sandra: Ladies and gentleman, please make sure that your seatbelt is fastened. We are going to make an emergency landing in Pallinn in just a few minutes. Make sure your seatback is upright, tray tables stowed, and armrests down. Oxygen masks may now be taken off. Please follow all of our instructions in order to make a safe emergency landing at Pallinn. Thank you, and never never never give up.
Yoshi: I better go.
Flight Attendant: Thank's for the help. Hope this penguin lives.
Yoshi went back to his seat, with the wind trying to make his precious tour guide hat fly away. He fastened his seatbelt and hoped for the best.
Passengers at the Pallinn International "Pengurt Seaside" Airport were just casually strolling around, eating breakfast from Snowbucks and watching the morning news. Mahendra Nagarkar was reporting for the SITV that morning.
Mahendra: Good morning everyone and welcome to SITV. My name is Mahendra Nagarkar. I hope that your Friday is off to a good start today.
Travelers just walked around the airport corridor.
Mahendra: We're going to start with breaking news. A Penguin Shops Air plane is in the process of making an emergency landing at Pallinn.
That got everyone's attention. Passengers ran to the nearest gate and looked out the window. The gates have a perfect view of the runway.
Mahendra: We are getting reports that a window broke, causing a decompression. I'm ging to show you live footage from Pallinn's air traffic control tower.
The view was quite stunning. The runway was clearly visible, with some hills at the edge.
Mahendra: You can see those green engines of the Penguin Shops Air plane. The jet's gonna land any time now.
Onboard the plane, captain Mack told everyone to brace.
Mack: Brace for impact.
Sandra: Put your heads down!
Soon, everyone on the aircraft adopted the brace position. The plane soon touched down.
Mahendra: The plane has landed.
Mack applied the brakes and the thrust reversers to slow the plane down. Soon, it stopped.
ATC: Penguin Shops 45, congratulations on the safe landing. Please stay on the runway. Paramedics are coming.
Jerker: Penguin Shops 45, copy.
The flight attendant at the back of the plane disarmed one of the doors and opened it up. Paramedics with a stretcher came onboard.
Paramedic: Lift him up.
The injured penguin was placed on the stretcher and was transported to a hospital. The flight attendant closed the door. Ground crew assigned the jet to a gate.
Mahendra: That was the emergency landing of the Penguin Shops Air jet. We'll be back with more news after the break.
Passengers inside the terminal building continued to eat breakfast, read a newspaper, or simply sleep on the chairs.
Yoshi was the last of the first class passengers to get off the plane. He took out his icePhone and sent a cheep.
My plane made an emergency landing at Pallinn. Oxygen masks came down and everything. #Emergency
He then proceeded to immigration.
News of this incident soon spread to all over Shops Island.
The Shopper Gazette: Good morning. Penguin Air flight 45 has made an emergency landing at Pallinn. One penguin was injured. The aircraft was reported to have one of it's windows shattered, causing oxygen masks to fall down.
By 8 AM Shopper time, the news has reached internationally.
CBN: In Shops Island, a Penguin Air jet made an emergency landing at Pallinn.

Chapter 2: Stress[edit]
At around 9:30, SIA investigators from Shops City boarded a chartered shopJet flight to Pallinn. They wanted to inspect the plane and get the black boxes.
The lead investigator, Mordikai Trask, knew that this investigation was important. Air travel in Shops Island was still pretty common, so he needed to find out what happened before more penguins die.
It's around 10:00. The 737 was on the taxiway. It was almost time for takeoff.
Flight Attendant: Ladies and gentleman, welcome aboard shopJet flight 6056 with service to Pallinn. Please make sure that your seatbelts are fastened at this time.
The scientists buckled their seatbelts. Soon, the plane was in the air. Estimated time to Pallinn was an hour.
Meanwhile at Penguin City, Yoshi was contacting M&M Resorts. He missed his flight to Las Puffles.
Manager: You want an extra day off. I understand that you were involved in an accident, but this is going to be a busy weekend!
Yoshi: Listen. I missed my flight to Las Puffles. I need the extra day off. Believe me.
Manager: Okay. You're gonna miss the Bellegione's employee brunch. Only happens once every season.
Yoshi: Just give me a day off.
Manager: Fine. I'm gonna call someone on standby.
Yoshi hung up and continued eating at the PenLounge. He opened the CBN app on his icePhone to catch the latest news.
The last story was eye catching.
Yoshi: One dies in Penguin Air incident...
He tapped the bold letters and read the rather interesting story.
At Penguin Air, Inc. headquarters just a mile from the airport, Freeman Martel was working at his office when some workers approached him.
Worker 1: Mr. Martel! We have some bad news for you!
Freeman: Is it about that incident?
Worker 2: Yes. Someone was killed.
Freeman: WHAT?!? Someone DIED on that plane?
Worker 1: Yeah. Show him the story.
At the same time, Freeman and Martel were reading the story.
PALLINN, FREEZESTONIA - We can now confirm that one penguin has died this morning due to a gunshot wound. Penguin Air flight 45 was approaching Penguin City when a rapid decompression occurred.
Freeman: Crap.
Yoshi: Oh my...
Freeman: I'm holding an emergency press conference. Now.
Worker 2: Okay.
At the Pallinn International Airport, the chartered 737 was cleared to land on the airport's only runway. The landing was smooth.
ATC: Shop Jet 6056, taxi to parking space 06. It should be next to the Penguin plane.
Pilot: Shop Jet 6056, copy.
The plane parked at the parking spot and walked to the 757 nearby. The plane was all in one piece.
Mordikai: Can someone find the black boxes?
Investigator 2: It's at the back, right?
Mordikai: Yeah. It's these two heavy orange boxes.
The SIA investigators wanted to find out what happened during the incident. The two black boxes usually give investigators voice conversations and aircraft data.
One of the investigators decided to go inside the aircraft.
Investigator 3: Huh. Looks clean.
Upon entering the first class cabin, he thought that everything was fine. Just a few oxygen masks were dangling. He used his walkie-talkie to converse with Mordikai.
Investigator 3: I'm starting to find some papers on the floor.
Mordikai: Okay.
As he went further down through the cabin, everything just became messier. Instead of just oxygen masks, there were papers.
Finally, at the back of the cabin, he saw the hole. A spider web formation was surrounding it.
Investigator 3: Looks like a bullet went through.
Back in Penguin City, a few penguins were at the grand ballroom at the Walton Shoppian Village. It's a nice beachside resort just of the coast.
Freeman: Welcome, everyone, to the Shoppian Village. Thanks for coming to this press conference.
Only small claps were heard due to the seriousness of the topic.
Freeman: As you may have already known, one of our aircraft had to make an emergency landing at Pallinn.
The CEO of Penguin Air, Inc. talked about the incident in more detail. he then told the public some shocking news.
Freeman: All international flights will fly over Moon Island instead of Freezestonia, effective immediately. Now, I know that this makes our flights longer and our prices higher. It's for our passenger's safety. Until we know why there was such an act, flights will fly over Moon Island.
He then went on and announced some less shocking news.
Freeman: The MD-90 of shopJet, Spirit of Lavender, will be re-painted back to it's standard livery.
Back at the Penguin City Airport, Yoshi was trying to rebook his flight.
Customer Service: You want to go on the next flight to Las Puffles.
Yoshi: Yes.
The customer service lady typed some stuff on her computer.
Customer Service: You can take tomorrow's flight. Departs at 10:45.
Yoshi: But didn't today's flight leave at around 9?
Customer Service: Sir, there's bad weather at South Pole City. Many flights, including one of ours, are stuck there.
Yoshi: Okay. Transfer me to that flight.
The customer service lady printed out some papers.
Customer Service: Keep these.
Yoshi: Thanks. Have a nice day!
The lady didn't look too happy.
Freeman returned to Penguin Air headquarters. The "Day's Without Incident" sign was reset back to zero.
Freeman: Now my company is going to crumble...
He decided to go to the operations center and see how everything is doing.
Employee 1: Mr. Martel!
Freeman: What do you want?
Employee 1: The Snowing 757 is now out of service.
Freeman: Keep it out of service.
Employee 1: Why?
Freeman: Our first 737-900ER is being delivered tomorrow. That 757 is the first on the chopping block.
Employee 1: All right. I have also cancelled flight 76 to Jokio.
Freeman: Got it.
The employee continued working and overlooked operations.
Freeman left the operations center and decided to go to the nearby airport. At the check-in area, he saw some angry passengers.
Passenger 1: I needed to go to Jokio for vacation! Now I'm late.
Freeman: Sir, it's not my fault.
Passenger 2: なぜあなたは私の飛行家をキャンセルしましたか？恥を知れ！
Freeman: Mam, I don't speak -
The angry Japalandese woman then hit Freeman's face with a cane.
Freeman: Hey. Watch it.
Passenger 2: 恥を知れ！
P/A System: Penguin Shops Air flight 76 with nonstop service to Jokio has been cancelled. Thank you.
Freeman: There's barely any respect these days...
The sun was setting throughout Shops Island. SIA investigators were packing up pieces of evidence onto the 737. They were heading home.
Mordikai: All right, guys. We're going to SIA headquarters tomorrow.
Investigators: Okay.
The Pallinn International Airport was in a small rush. Some Freezestonian turboprops were bringing islanders home. This meant that the plane had to wait for a while.
ATC: Freezestonian 256, you are cleared for takeoff on runway 09. Use caution, wake turbulence from PRJ.
After this, it was time for the shopJet 737 to take off.
ATC: shopJet 6055, you are cleared for takeoff on runway 09.
Pilot: Cleared for takeoff, runway 09. shopJet 6055.
On this day, investigators received the black boxes and collected some evidence. The data was set to be extracted by next week. For now, the investigators were relaxing in the jet after a long day of work.
Mordikai: Can I have a coffee?
Flight Attendant: No problem, sir.
After about an hour of flying time, the plane landed at Shops City. The beautiful skyline could be seen from a distance.
It was a not-so relaxing time for Freeman. He was stuck in traffic on his way home from work. His face was red from the cane that hit him.
Freeman: You stupid cars. People need to come home!
HONK!
To pass the time, he tuned on the radio.
Radio: This is Penguin City Radio with your traffic report. There has been a serious accident at the intersection of the SI3 and Auakalak Avenue. Traffic is backed up all the way to Wright Lane. Please give yourself plenty of extra time.
Freeman: That explains it.
The CEO of Penguin Air, Inc. turned off the engine of his car in order to save gas.
It was now 8:00. Fireworks were supposed to be launched from the Walton Shoppian Village in Paikiki. However, there was a one minute "moment of silence" to mourn the passenger who died on the Penguin Shops Air accident. Then, the fabulous show was held.
Yoshi was in the Butter Head tower of the resort. It's the cheapest tower in the hotel. The rooms suck and the decor is bad, but that was all he could get from his pocket.
Yoshi: I would have been onboard a plane at this time, but I had to be involved in an emergency.
He snacked on some dried coconut before he took a shower. There was still some blood on Yoshi's shirt.
It was Saturday. The sun was rising over Shops Island. It was a new day for everyone.
Freeman Martel is already at Penguin Air, Inc. headquarters. He was just eating a muffin sandwich from McDoodle's.
Freeman: Oh, this is so bad for you.
At Shops City, some investigators were just waking up. Others were driving to the airport. Mordikai was already at the airport. This time, they were using their own planes, due to them going to a "secret" destination.
At around 7:30 A.M., most of the investigators were at the airport tarmac. Penguins started boarding the jet.
Mordikai: Guys, please sit down. We're taking off soon.
Investigator 1: Are we examining the black boxes?
Mordikai: Be patient. We're only opening them.
Investigator 2: Can we look at radar?
Mordikai: Great idea. We can see anything suspicious that could have shot that window.
The plane was much more luxurious than any commercial plane. There were plush, lavender-colored seats and gold window trims.
ATC: SIA SI-25M, you are cleared for takeoff.
The jet slowly climbed to it's cruising altitude.
At around the same time, Freeman Martel flew his small Beakcraft plane to Pallinn to inspect damage from the plane.
Freeman: Yoshi Egg tower, this is SI-693, requesting permission to takeoff.
It was now 8:15. Yoshi was at the Penguin City Airport. He was on the airport tram to the Mamao terminal.
Tram: This tram is going to the Mamao terminal. Exif if you fly Penguin World Air, Margate Airlines, SkyJet Airways, or Air Culldrome.
Passenger: Where are you going?
Yoshi: Las Puffles. Why do you ask?
Passenger: Oh, nothing. Wait. You're going to Las Puffles?
Yoshi: Yes. I live there.
Passenger: Oh.
The tram was now at the Mamao terminal. Yoshi's gate was literally right next to the train station.
Yoshi: Flight 907 to Las Puffles, huh.
He knew he was a lucky man when he looked out the window. A Snowing 787 was being towed to the gate. Yoshi couldn't believe it.
Yoshi: Am flying that Sleepliner?
Gate Agent: Flying to Las Puffles this morning?
Yoshi: Yup.
Gate Agent: Yes, you are flying the 787.
Yoshi simply collapsed. He always wanted to fly the 787, but SkyJet Airways doesn't fly the plane to Las Puffles.
Gate Agent: Sir, can you get up?
